This is the only time I've been compelled to write a yelp review. I recently purchased some new caliper brakes for my bike. Upon installation I noted that my brake cables and cable housing needed to be replaced. I can do this myself and have many times before. I usually do my own bike maintenance, and have for years, unless it's something I don't have the tools or knowledge to fix. In this case I simply didn't want to be bothered ordering cables and housing and decided to take it to have done. First impression of the shop is grimey, cluttered and disorganized. I explained what I wanted done and the proprietor quoted me a reasonable price and gave me a reasonable time frame for the work to be done. Everything seems great so far. I arrive for pick up, first thing I notice is that my bike is in the center of a bike sandwich leaning against one of the walls. Concern.gif. He removes it none too gently. Cable has been replaced, I note that the rear cable adjuster is in the maximum position that you would use to tighten the cable. I begin to spin the adjuster to check cable tension when the proprietor tells me vehemently to not touch it. I wonder why, explain this is the cable tension adjuster and I'm adjusting it. He again tells me not to touch it. I actuate the (also new) brake lever, and it feels spongy, not crisp, and doesn't fully spring back into place. I voice my concerns at which point he squeezes the brakes a couple of times and tells me it's fine. It is not. I again reach for the adjuster and he again tells me not to touch it, his voice raising, saying it twice. I think that I'll just have to take it elsewhere, thank him and leave. Outside I examine his "work," more closely and note that the cable tension adjuster is non functional, and that now there is half of an internal component of the tensioner, a washer?, protruding from the new caliper brake. I attempt to adjust the tensioner. It is non functional. I return into the shop and point out the damage, and demonstrate the tensioner does not work. He again says not to touch it. I explain that it is designed to be touched, it is for adjustments. He tells me he does not see the washer, which is believable as he's quite old, and that he didn't touch that part, yet he would have had to when installing the cable. I'm getting upset at this point, another customer waiting for service overhears this exchange and decides against this shop, telling me "Sorry, bro," as he wisely wheeled his bike out and presumably to a better shop. That was my experience, lesson learned. Sometimes you can judge a book by it's cover. My only thought now is that I hope my rear caliper isn't permanently damaged. Addendum: also noted some fresh cosmetic damage as well. read more

Brian helped me tune up a bike for my daughter. Great tune up price and good work. He is an old Asian man with ok English. Just speak slowly and he will understand you and give you awesome service. They have used and new bikes too. Nice little shop! read more

I know that everyone says that Brian is not a very good bike mechanic, but in my experience, he was able to fulfill my needs such replacing my bike tire tube which took him 20 minutes to do. I also had problems with installing new breaks and when I had problems, he knew how to fix them. read more

Came here to get my rims trued and one redone. First I called to make sure they were open or taking appointments only. The shop man's english was not the best but we understood each other. He gave me a quote and told me how long and I said okay. Now I am happily riding my bike. I will come back here for any future bike needs. read more

I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews because of the owner's halting English, limited inventory and poor customer service skills. This shop isn't going to satisfy everyone's needs - but think of it as a resource to keep your bike operating safely. My friend just told me that the owner's son, who used to help around the shop, was killed in a bike accident. I'm sure all of us have suffered a loss this year. Please think about that when you make a comment that affects someone's livelihood. read more

I was in the area today and decided to stop by Alhambra Schwinn to see what they had. The owner, Brian, is an older Korean gentleman and speaks limited English but he is extremely nice, warm and friendly. He definitely tries to provide good customer service. I asked him about vintage Schwinns and he proudly showed me a 1950s women's Schwinn Catalina beach cruiser proclaiming it was the oldest bike in the store. I browsed awhile and he was more than happy to answer all of my questions. I thanked him by saying "gamsahamnida" which is thank you in Korean. He was surprised and had a huge smile on his face! I definitely had a lot of fun going in there. I'll be back next time I'm in the area for sure! read more

Came for 2 flat tires fixed flat tires for a good price. But did something to back tire causing issues with free wheel and gear system told him about it said it was fine had to go to another shop it fix it. Before coming only issue with bike was flats However, I want to say that my first review was to harsh. I didn't even notice but he also changed my tires completely when I just came for new innnertubes and he didn't charge me at all for new tires!!! so that is awesome . Took my old school Univega Charisma bike to get its old worn out tires(700c) and tubes replaced, and some maintenance (oil, ect..). Total came out to $85 dollars which is a little steep (in my opinion, maybe that is the standard) but I think the guy runs this by himself, or at least he was the only one there when I stopped in to ask questions, and then again when I dropped my bike off/picked it up. I want to note that this man is a man of few words, but I think that is just how he is. Do not take it personally. He does good work in my opinion, and I will most likely keep taking my bike here as long as he is open for business. Updates. As promised, I returned looking for some tires and handle grips August 27 2020. This guy has no customer service skills at all, might as well say gimme your money and leave, I asked to see some handle bars located behind the counter, there were two repaired bikes in front of the counter and the old man tells me to reach for them myself. Before this, he refused to bring down one of the blue tires I wanted to see. There is no customer service here, I won't patronize this business again...I don't know how he's still in business except that his shop is the only one in the area. read more

This guy is pretty shady. I came here a couple of times before I knew about Yelp for some bike repair (my tire kept losing air over a period of a few weeks)... the guy who worked here kept charging me to patch my tire. Eventually, I got sick of the same "problem" reoccuring, so I went to a much better bike store (Jones bicycles) - and they told me apparently it is natural for my tire to lose air over time (yes, I did feel like a fool for not knowing this). They checked my tire for free and confirmed that it did not have any leaks. So basically, Alhambra Schwimm was taking advantage of my lack of knowledge - and charging me for something that wasn't even broken. read more

He then started to say "no guarantee once you walk out the door and no returns"(as in if he was selling me a tube that he knew was cheap and might pop right away) I laughed and just walked out. He sold me some pedals for my kid's BB8 bike (made for 5 year olds). He has plenty of supply and gear that is fairly priced compared to what you might receive online. read more

Despite their sign, this place does not sell Schwinn bicycles or their components. I was looking for some new bar tape and to upgrade the saddle on my road bike. The bar tape he had available looked no better than a large rubber band. Their saddles in stock looked worse than the ones sold at big box stores. This is probably a good place to go for maintenance on a low-spec bike, such as one purchased from Walmart, or if you are looking for the cheapest bicycle imaginable. This is not a good place for recreational cyclists or wannabe racers. read more

I understand peoples frustrations with the shop owner's English but he is the furthest thing from rude. To have different communication skills due to cultural differences has nothing to do with customer service. I had a wonderful experience and am happy about my purchase/service. I came in explaining I didn't know much about bikes and he told me if I was looking for something cheaper I should go to Walmart or target as his bikes are meant to be higher quality. I can see how this can seem rude but it was more of a matter of fact statement and I appreciated his honesty. I thought about it and told him I'd go to Walmart and he wasn't upset about this or anything. I thought about it more and thought I'd invest as my last Walmart bike keeps needing repairs. Considering that Brian runs this shop all by himself, I have been here twice in the past month and able to get my bikes tuned up within 4 to 6 days. The shop might not look the best but you can see that he really enjoys what he's doing and almost feel bad that he's charging so little for labor. read more

My husband went in here to try and buy a bike for our 8 year old son. Even though they were the only customers in the shop the man working their seemed completely disinterested in helping him. All his answers to the questions being asked were really short and he seemed irritated/bothered to have be dealing with customers. We went to this store because we know nothing about bikes and thought we would get more help/info at a store specifically for buying bikes as opposed to large retail, but nope. While Brian may not speak the best English and his shop isn't the prettiest, as long as you tell him what your bicycle needs are he will accommodate and provide the products/services as needed. I was in dire need of a new gear switcher, and we needed someone to repair it immediately. This guy hooked me up with a new gear switcher and and offered to replace it within 1 hour, at the end, he charged us 32 bucks and he oiled my chains for free. Without this guy I would have been stranded in Alhambra. Also, no other bike stores were open at the time, and if they were, they wouldn't have the gear switcher and if other bike shops had this spare part, they would have charged more. read more

The sign outside says Schwinn bikes and there are no schwinn bikes at all but rusty old bikes. When I asked the man if he sells Schwinn bikes he said to go to Walmart and I told him he should take the sign down then and he started yelling. Horrible! Why is this place still open? I found this place on Yelp and drove out of my way to see crusty, rusty bikes and a rude man. read more

My bike needed new tubes and this place was the closest to bike shop near me. I came here and the owner was nice enough and said it would be $18 and to come back in an hour. I walked and grabbed lunch and came back and he was still working on it. I asked him to change the seat as well and he did. Overall it was a little over $30 and my bike is riding great. read more

I yelp'd "Bike Shop" in Alhambra, and Alhambra Cycle Sports was the closest place. I called ahead to ensure that he was going to be opened when I got there. What I needed to get done: Tighten my crank arm because it was loose. Pros: -Brian, the owner, helped me point out what the problem was and it was a minor strip of the crank arm so he suggested a replacement for $20 [a little pricey?]. -He helped me temporarily fix it as complimentary. -He was nice. Cons: -I tried to shop for some other parts and they are pretty pricey. There are other bike shops that sell many of the parts for less. Conclusion: Go here if you need something done ASAP but if you can sit on it, research your costs. read more

I desperately needed new tubes for my bike since it had been sitting there for at least 5 years pre-quarantine. I called at around 5:10 on a Tuesday afternoon and asked if they had the tubes I required. The owner was extremely helpful and told me they did have those in stock. I rushed over to the place because the owner informed me that he would be closing up shop at 5:30. Even though I rushed to make it there before closing time, I ended up arriving at 5:35. Was about to turn around when I see him walking towards the front door and signaling me in! After thanking him for waiting on me, I purchased my tubes and drove home where I proceeded to install the tubes and tires and was happily riding around the neighborhood by 6:30. Could not recommend this place more!! I will be coming back to purchase a new bike for my daughter within the next few days. Will it cost me about $10-15 more than it would at Walmart? Sure. But this guy gets my business from today forward. read more

Being I'm the Duke here I guess I better write a review. Just recently bought a used Schwinn. Needed 2 tubes, a tire and rear brake caliper. I know very little about bikes but had called a few places for quotes and all were $10-$20 higher. Seeing this bike was pretty used and left some to be desired and told this guy you're hired. $50 for parts and labor. Isn't much selection but seems to have a lots of spare part and there is room for bargaining. If you have a nice bike and deeper pockets would recommend Jones in San Marino. I had two flat inner tubes from my kids bike that needed to be repaired. He had the tires in stock and installed them. He was also very thorough and found a thorn in one of the tire. Another local shop was gonna charge me twice as much. Fortunately they didn't have the inner tubes in stock and that's how I found this place. Very serendipitous. read more

My son's bicycle has a flat. I called three local bike shops. One wanted to charge $30 for diagnostic deodorant before seeing the bike said $26 for the tire $10 for install on Mission Road in Alhambra. Alhambra cycle was the best. He told me $12 for the tire, $8 for the tube installed. After inspecting, on the inner tube was needed. 10mins later and $8 dollars less, I have a happy child. read more

First time here wasn't bad, second time was a nightmare and will never go back. Went for a tube and put my card in the machine after the owner complaining that I didn't have cash. Pulled my card out of the machine too early and that's when things got crazy. Owner started yelling at me, mind you I'm a 40 year old adult, and he could not contain his anger. He kept saying "why you do that! Why you do that!" And kept going on and in about it. I thought the machine accepted my card, that's why. All we had to do was run the card again, why is that a big deal? I can't exaggerate how rude and inappropriate his behavior was. Would walked out but walked miles there for a tube because I'm without a vehicle. Zero customer service skills and one crazy temper. Never again. read more
