Got a table for three here on a saturday evening, with 90 minutes to spare before another engagement. Our server brought us water, then asked us if we needed a few minutes to look through the menu. We said yes, spent five minutes deciding what to order, and then proceeded to wait over 30 minutes for our server to come back. He never did. After watching our neighboring table get to order (they were seated after we got in), we ran out of time and patience, and we left. Very disappointing first experience to have, especially since I was looking forward to Ali Baba's opening. I get that it's new and is understandably working out some kinks, but I plan on waiting to go back until I hear that service has improved. read more

Food was ok...nothing special. The muhamara was spicy and not as smooth as we are used to. Baba ganouj very garlicky. The pitas are brought in. The portions were very inconsistent as well; my wife and i both had a salad with the meal and hers was about twice the size of mine. The restaurant itself wasnt very clean. There was a dead fruit fly in my water glass. The bathroom door wouldn't lock and the table was sticky. Service was lacking... It is clearly a family establishment and not staffed by experienced personnel. Long wait time for pretty much everything start to finish. Order take out and expect to wait... I went with my friend who is Lebanese at the recommendation of another friend with middle eastern family roots. We ordered what we thought would be little bits of several dishes. Well... we ended up with takeout boxes of several dishes that easily fed us the next day. We had hummus, rice, fava beans, grape leaves, lamb, beef... tons of delicious food. I specifically ordered the Sultana ( I think that was the name) and it was really delicious, abundant, and tender. The dishes are from all different parts of the Middle East, including Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and , they even threw in some Greek dishes for good measure. The weight staff was attentive and more than happy to educate us on how the dishes were prepared and the ethnic origins. I really enjoyed the food and will definitely return when I'm in Boulder again. read more

Nope. We were very excited for chicken shawarma take out tonight. Unfortunately, these sandwiches did not even slightly resemble shawarma. They contained tough, dried-out chunks of chicken with almost no flavor, certainly not a garlic one. Probably the worst part was that the pita was slathered in mayo and came with a container of mayo on the side. Since when does shawarma come with mayo rather than garlic labna or tahini sauce? The Greek salad could have made up a bit or the sandwiches, but much of the lettuce had that pinkish tinge of lettuce way past its serving date, and it was swimming in salad dressing, which made it wet and soggy. We each had a few bites of our sandwiches, a little bit of salad and gave up since the food was not even worth the effort. A very disappointing end to our night! read more

I really really wish this place was good. I'm a big fan of Lebanese food, but Ali Baba was a disappointment. We ate there on a weekend for lunch, and it stank of cleaning fluid when we walked in. The meat and vegetable pies were undercooked; the dough was soggy and half raw. The hummus was just o.k., but the salad had wishbone French dressing on it which was pretty awful. I had the Mousakka 'special' which would have been good if it wouldn't have tasted old and warmed up in the microwave. One day I'll find a great Lebanese restaurant in the area, but sadly, this one is a far cry from even mediocre. read more

My wife, a friend, and I ate here recently. My companions had the Chicken Barg. Very tasty and generous portions. I had the Lamb Kabob, which was also tasty. Have never felt the need to write a review - until getting take out from Ali Baba. Ordered the grilled seafood kabob, vegetarian lovers and chicken wings. Salmon was overcooked and dry and the skewer was inedible. In addition, the rice had a funky taste. Other than the hummus, which was only okay, everything in the vegetarian lovers plate had a bad taste. While there were supposed to be 8 chicken wings, it was nice to get only 6 so I didn't have to throw away so much - they were also overcooked and dry. I am incredibly surprised by all the positive reviews for this place, I suppose people have different tastes. Overall this was one of the worst places I have ever been to for Middle Eastern food... and I have been to many. Giving it two stars since they threw in a free fries since I had to wait an extra 15 minutes. I would suggest going to Garbanzo just down the street for a similar style of food done much better. read more

Great Middle Eastern cooking! I have been driving to their Golden location for over 10 years, so I was excited to see they had opened a Boulder location. I dined there last night and the food is just as delicious as in Golden, though I did note some minor differences such as that the kabob entree came with garlic sauce as a side rather than a stewed tomato. Food-wise, I'm a big fan of their falafel plate, their rice, the chicken/beef/lamb kabob plates, the (enormous) chicken Barg entree, and of course their fantastic hummus. The gyro and shawarma meats are good but aesthetically I prefer those meats in pita sandwiches rather than on a platter. I would caution that there is a lot of garlic in many dishes--a good thing for the taste buds, but perhaps not appropriate for all occasions. As others have noted, this is definitely a family-run informal restaurant and not a fine dining establishment. This can mean the service might be a bit spotty such as when they are busy at the dinner hour--that happened to our party last night, and often does at the Golden location as well. It is located in a former fast/casual food type building, but they have movable chairs and large tables, not rigid booths. There's a small outdoor dining patio which faces 28th street to the east. The interior decor has been nicely sponge painted to give it a Middle Eastern flair with ornate chandeliers providing lower lighting in south dining area. In Golden they do a brisk takeout business at the counter, and I expect it may be the same here. That means that the brighter lit north dining area will likely experience more foot traffic at busy times. read more

I came here for lunch with my family and I can't wait to come back! Very generous portions, excellent quality of meat and seafood, and delicious flavor in every bite. The stuffed grape leaves we ordered for an appetizer might have been my favorite! So hard to find some that taste that delicious. I also HIGHLY suggest ordering their garlic spread to eat there and a small tub to take home. (Or 5) sooooo good. I was able to bring my toddler- family friendly. I always wonder when I see reviews that have 5 stars or 2 stars. It makes me wonder who's doing the writing, someone with a grudge or someone who is too biased in favor. So let me say I am neither. Ali Baba and its food and staff deserve the highest ratings!! We went with friends and I ordered the meat kabobs, lamb, chicken and beef. Honestly I think this was the best lamb I had in my life and the rest of the food we all had was on par. I would say just explore the menu, you will be back. Our server Moayed was super super nice. But it gets better, he is also a pastry / desert chef and made the most delicious Baklava. Anyone that went when the restaurant first opened should give the place a second chance if they experienced the learning curve. Honestly this was one of the best meals I have had in memory and that includes San Francisco where we just got back from and went to several supposed 5 star resteraunts which I would rate Ali Baba over them any time! Ali Baba Grill was hit and miss. We had two lunch specials. They are served with either salad or lentil soup, and rice. We both tried the soup, which could've been good with a stand out flavor but was fairly flat in taste. The lentils were mashed? and in a broth. My soup didnt have a single spoonful of lentil, but my husband's had a little bit with each bite. He had the Kafta kabob, which looked appetizing, and was moist and flavorful. I had the Shawarma Chicken Meat which was dry flakes of meat. There was a good flavor base on the chicken, but I expected fresh larger slices of meat that weren't so dry that I had to take a drink with each bite. The rice had a dry seasoning sprinkled on it, and either it or the rice tasted old or cardboardish. The food was very attractive but most lacked in consistent quality (dry, flavor, some lentils vs no lentils). Ambiance is nice. Our server was very laid back and nice. We may try it again to see if another day or menu item may be better. read more

Went to Ali Baba with 5 friends for lunch. I'm super excited that they opened a location in Boulder, I go to the one in Golden every time we drive through town. We were seated and... no one came to take our order. My friend went and got a waiter. We order and the food came out pretty quickly. They never brought us waters or plates that we asked for. I want to give more than 3 stars because their food is really good (great chicken shawarma, gyro and hummus) but the wait service was so poor. It was my 2nd time there and unfortunately it was poor the first time, too. Oh and they have a coupon on restaurant.com but would not honor it. read more

We love ordering the King Combo (unless you are really hungry this is large enough for 2 people), which features a great variety of vegetarian appetizers plus a selection of meats. The quality of food is consistently good, the service friendly, and the pricing reasonable. While we love dining there, we ordered take-out the last time and the order was ready in under 15 minutes. we are lucky to have this authentic Lebanese restaurant in Boulder; I would know because I am Lebanese. Since I stumbled on to this gem, I've become a regular. Everything is made from scratch including the falafel mix--they make their own--they don't buy pre-made bulk balls. I love this place; I like the menu because it offers many great options. I love their hummus--better than home-made. If you see a poor review on here, take it with a grain of salt. It probably is planted by their competion who is feeling their presence in Boulder. They also have great lunch specials. My son works nearby and everybody in his company calls in the special. He loves the gyros sandwich special. At lunch my friends and I had really delicious lamb and chicken kebobs ($8.95) -- the meat was deliciously marinated, the side salad simple but good and the service OK (hard to get anyone a couple of times). Also, one of these friends lived in the Egypt for several years and pronounced the thin pita authentic and the hummus delicious and "correct," served with olive oil and dusted with paprika. I want to say I usually love this place and ate here all the time after mountain biking up in Boulder. I went in today and got the same things as always, same price as always. A lunch special at $9.99. Lunch specials always came with your main plus hummus, salad, pita, and rice. I get it home and no pita and no hummus. Just gyro meat on a mountain of rice with the tiniest salad. The pita and hummus is one of the best things they do here and one of the reasons I pick this place over other options. How are you gonna have a gyro plate without pita? Of course the menu still has the old description where it's all included. I called and they said it's changed now but the menu hasn't been changed yet. A gyro sandwich for 6.95 would have gotten me pita, gyro, and salad. The lunch specials are not worth the price anymore. Curry n Kebab next door has an amazing lunch special and I guess I won't be alternating between the two any longer. read more

Love to keep my review short... if you are Arabic don't go there it is bellow the standard in many ways..! Some one asked for my review to be removed because it was too short.. no problem!! 1- food sensing: there was none! In the mixed meet grill I forget the name of the dish but any way it was bad. 2- humus was too light and almost liquid. 3-falafel tasted bad don't come with falafel salad or pickles and the thing that came with it that's suppose to be tahini for falafel was runny not tasted like falafel tahini at all. 4- the pies filling was little and a huge disappointment!! This is the WORST ali baba grill .. they will destroy its reputation... I had a thousand time better experience with the one in Golden.. read more

My wife and noticed this restaurant was new to the area and we decided to try it. The food and service was excellent! I had the Lamb Special and my wife had the Salmon dish. Both were so delicious. Dinners come with bread, a large bowl of Hummus, and a dinner salad. After dinner the owner came over to say hello. She was extremely cordial. To our surprise she gave my wife and I baklava for dessert. I would highly recommend you give this restaurant a try as you won't regret it! read more
