My experience terrible experience with Dr. Mesiwala, followed by information from the PUBLIC RECORD below, with links: I had 2 failed surgeries by Dr. Mesiwala. The first one left me with a spinal fluid leak (soaking the bed sheets with spinal fluid!) which required another surgery to repair it. This one one gave me a septic infection which put me in the ICU where my wife was told that I probably would not be going home. The wonderful hospital doctor ordered the swollen, infected area around my incision to be aspirated and tested to prove surgical infection. Before the team came to perform the aspiration procedure, Mesiwala came in and quickly ordered another nurse to administer an IV antibiotic (while he stood by and anxiously watched). This would make all of the infection tests from the surgical site come back negative. The hospital doctor on my case who ordered the test was furious about this cover-up antibiotic maneuver. She was very frank with me and said she "was shocked that he was still allowed to practice medicine but said it wouldn't go on for long." That was 18 years ago. Prior to the first surgery, a very well-known neurologist told me that Dr. Mesiwala "Has very poor judgment." A very strong statement from one MD against another, which I wish I had taken seriously. After my disastrous and nearly fatal experience, he suggested I get a lawyer and had his secretary give me the lawyer's phone number. He was on the medical board and wanted to use my case for more evidence to have Mesiwala's license revoked. I was too sick to deal with it and foolishly did not follow up. Also, prior to my surgery, even my home health nurse asked if I had done any research on Dr. Mesiwala. He then told me about the TV exposé on Dr. Mesiwala and the US Department of Justice Enterprise Corruption case for pushing a company's spinal implants after being given part of the company which made them. This is a Federal crime. I blame myself for not heeding the warnings. That's why I'm posting this for others. I scheduled an appointment two months out, only to have the office leave me a message that he had to cancel mere days in advance without any offer for a new visit. Things come up, so I reached out and rescheduled...only to once again have them call and say he needed to reschedule. Then, less than 24 hours before my 2nd rescheduled appointment, they leave me a message that he *just so happens* to no longer take my insurance starting *tomorrow* -- the day on which they conveniently moved my appointment to. This is shady and corrupt insurance manipulation, so the last thing I would consider would be to allow this man to offer medical care to me. What a joke. read more

WARNING DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR. A few years ago my mom (who is in dialysis and had a stint in her heart) had back pain and went to Mesiwala. he did a bunch of scans of her back and diagnosed her with a spinal compression fracture. They booked her for a surgery at the end of the year in 2022 around December. However in August one of his patients canceled and he got my mom in on a last minute surgery. turns out him and his medical team didn't talk to any of my moms doctors like her cardiologist or her dialysis doctors to make sure she was able to go through with the surgery. My mom and our whole family thought everything was done by the book and it was not. Anyways she had the surgery done on her back and the anesthesia was to much for her heart and she passed away in august of 2022, 2 days after my dads birthday . they also never gave us a clear answer of what she actually died from they just said it was the toxins in her body and labeled her death as heart failure. We've talked to many other doctors about this situation and we believe she passed from sepsis. but because we didn't get an autopsy no lawyer would take our case to sue Mesiwala, his team, and the hospital that she passed in. Clerical staff, especially Alma are so rude. I even told Dr Meziwala on numerous occasions about this. When in acute pain, a nasty greeting staff who seems to hate her job and won't even make eye contact, is the last thing to have to deal with. Obviously there have been no changes as nothing has gotten better. I used to have great faith in Dr Meziwala and respect. Post surgery since 8/22 the nerve pain and pinching in my back is back. Yet, I've tried since July to get into the Neurology group he works with and they keep canceling. Why does such a well know surgeon work at such an unprofessional place? I have seen another neurosurgeon who spent extensive time talking to me, check in was a breeze and the clerical staff so polite and friendly. Unfortunately, they don't do EMG tests so I'm stuck with no help. read more

My mom had a surgery with him in march, then right away went into a septic shock with multi-organ dysfunction , he didn't try to help or try to get involved in her care even though she was in his operation room 4 days before that. She DIED in the ICU. We will not forgive him for whatever mistake he did. read more

We recently had to visit Meziwala's office and my father had an appointment with a nurse practitioner (which I wasn't thrilled about but I went with it)..... anyways she was so pleasant! She was very matter of fact, made eye contact, took the time to explain things and allowed for us to ask questions. She also included me, which was perfect because I am involved in all aspects of his care. I know you guys can't spend a huge amount of time with patients but thank you.... thank you for being so nice and allowing my dad to feel heard. He has been in a lot of pain and is looking at surgery soon (again)... I also wanted to comment on your front office staff (Rancho Cucamonga office).. they were also amazing! Believe me when I tell you how unusual that is at a Dr's office these days! Keep it up ladies! If there was one thing that needed slight improvement .....it would be to have a direct way to contact the office. I called about 5 times and each time I had to leave a message. I did, however, receive a call back each time but a couple of times I just had a quick question that I needed answered on the spot (ie. while at the MRI) I will update this review with the practitioners name and I will also post a review after his surgery. I herniated a disc in October of 2018, L5-S1 6mm. Over the following 4 and 1/2 years, I would try every recommended option excluding surgery. Nothing ever seemed to help much with pain and normal daily activities at its best being tolerable. In February 2023, I woke up one morning and my back seemed worse. The following two days it got significantly worse. Eventually waking up on the third day and not able to even stand. New MRI showed disc protrusion had grown to 17mm and the disc was degenerate. I knew I needed to re-explore options. After much research, I chose to meet Dr. Ali Mesiwala, and I can't even put into words. How grateful I am. During the consultation, I knew within 30 seconds that I had made the right choice. He was confident, knowledgeable and made me feel super comfortable about the whole thing. Surgery day itself was excellent. Slightly nervous as expected, but his team made me feel just really comfortable. I was in and out of surgery after an hour and after about another hour of resting I was walking out the door. It's no exaggeration when I say I don't think there is a better team/ facility. I can't even imagine what they could possibly do better. Every member of his team was the utmost professional, from the front desk associates to Dr. Mesiwala himself. I just finished my 6 month check up and I feel so good that it's hard to even remember what my life was like before surgery. My dad had 3 surgeries for sciatic pain. After the first one he was in a lot pain; pain medication failed to help him. 2-couple months later he performed another one, to correct the first one; coming out from the hospital he wasn't able to get up from bed, I was the one who requested in-home PT. Therapy didn't work. He had an x-ray , apparently, the implant moved he had an emergency surgery. He is even worse, now he's using a walker and he back hurts so much, he can't walk straight, he is vent over. We don't even talk to dr it's with his nurse. He prescribes pain killers after pain killers. Nothing is working. read more

Dr. Mesiwala did a great job with my husband's surgery but their office staff is awful. It is now November and I am waiting for a return call, a return email and a return text from August. Now they have dropped our insurance and will not see my husband for a follow up visit after his 7 hour spine surgery at the end of July. A doctor friend of ours calls it abandonment. read more

I've been trying to contact you through email, text, and phone and no response for weeks. I've had this problem many times before and I'm at my last straw. I had surgery on Dec 5th 2022 and have yet to receive any physical therapy due to your uneducated staff. I've threatened to report this shitty front office to The Medical Board of California and have made my decision to do just that. No patient should be treated as I and many others according to Yelp. This is by far the worst Drs office experience I have ever encountered in my entire life, BY FAR!!! Your front office is a disgrace to Dr. Mesiwala whom is an awesome surgeon. I swear they never answer their phone or return calls after leaving messages. Horrible customer service, they have my mom waiting on a referral for weeks now. Twice they said they would send it to her and nothing came in, had to re schedule her appointment 2 times now and now maybe 3 times since referral never got here and you cannot get a hold of anyone. Very upsetting and this is supposed to be an important appointment that she's been waiting on for months now!!!! So ridiculous, you call and they're out to lunch, you call after lunch and same thing you get a voicemail. They need to work on getting people to call back members that leave messages !!! read more

Dr. Mesiwala has now completed 3 surgeries on my pain-wracked body. After going years to different doctors (primary care, orthopedic, neurosurgeon, etc.), going to many different therapies (physical therapy, acupuncture, active release therapy, etc.), and trying different pain medications (both OTC and prescription), only Dr. Mesiwala was able to help pin point the exact problem behind all the pain I'd been experiencing for years -- horrific headaches and back pain including sciatic nerve pain. Because of my back and neck, I could no longer lift anything heavier than 5 pounds or continue my office work due to the headaches. My first surgery was to detach my tethered spinal cord (who knew such thing existed???) -- Dr. Mesiwala did. Then he did 2 cervical disk replacements (C 5-6 & C 6-7) which took away the horrible headaches. And recently he did a lumbar disk replacement (L 4-5) which immediately took away the sciatic nerve pain. I am currently healing from that and am looking forward to returning to a non-restrictive life. I cannot say enough great things about both Dr. Mesiwala and his staff. He is very patient, understanding and great at answering the many questions and concerns I had about each of the surgeries. And everything turned out just the way he said it would. Every person I dealt with on his staff is always sweet and full of information. I recommend him and his staff to everyone I talk to. After seeing multiple Neurosurgeons for 2nd and 3rd opinions I did 2 level Cervical Disc Replacement with Dr Mesiwala and couldn't be happier that I proceeded with him. He is a highly skilled surgeon who takes the time during appointments to listen, answer questions and explain things thoroughly. It's rare these days for a neurosurgeon to be so generous with their valuable time and not make patients feel rushed, Dr Mesiwala is the real deal. I don't know what happened in the past with prior bad reviews of the staff, but that has definitely been fixed as from my experience the team was absolutely amazing. His NP Mark is a awesome guy and his Medical Assistant Terry is one of the best medical professionals I have ever had the pleasure to work with, she answered or returned my calls immediately and was able to schedule appointments quickly. A few times she was even able to squeeze me in same day. Bottom line is this is a top notch surgeon and team full spectrum who I am so grateful to be under the care of. read more

I just drove An hour down there taking time off work only to find out my appointment was canceled. Apparently Amanda left me a voicemail confirming my appt on Sunday and because I didn't call her back to confirm she didn't call me to tell me dr had jury duty. I told her I called back on Sunday and got the answering service! And forgot to confirm during the week so because of that you fail to let me know that dr has jury duty and you need to cancel my appt?!?! Such a ridiculous person working the front desk. You'd think someone working customer service would reach out and call to confirm once again if they hadn't heard From the patient or let them know they were going to cancel! Dr Mesiwala is Great but his corporate office is another thing! Did my Si Joint fusion in January 2019 and I'm pain free for first time in years. 3 month follow up scheduled and they call me telling me because of my EPO insurance they can no longer see me.....I was suppose to see him at 3 months, 6 months and 12 months post op! Now he'll review my radiology report and refer me to someone else.....bullshit! My surgery was already done and another neurologist won't want to waste a minute on someone else's post op care! I had fusion surgery 9/14/2016 by Dr Mesiwala. I had poor follow through. His office kept calling me to reschedule my appointments. I had poor/no standard of care. I never saw Dr Mesiwala once since my surgery date. And now I am having a hard time finding a neurosurgeon who will see me, as I continue to experiencing chronic low back pain. read more

Less than 2 weeks ago and starting to do so much better. They have been so attentive and Victoria has been so easy to reach and always calls me right back. I am eternally grateful. Dr. Mesiwala and PA Michelle Lancaster were very cordial and explained the surgery procedure expertly. I had chronic acute sciatica caused by a fractured vertebrae. After more than 2 months of insurance company protocol, I was finally able to have surgery scheduled with Dr. Mesiwala. In one hour of surgery, he eliminated the pain entirely. I am so thankful to Dr. M for his skill and expertise; and so thankful to PA Michelle for the excellent way she mentally prepared me for the surgery. The other nurses in the operating center were very kind and courteous, as well. I would highly recommend Dr. M and his staff. So thankful for their help.
