Quantity over quality - that's my hard lesson I've learned about some barbers in the boston area. I'm not sure what the appeal is about places like this and Fast Phil's, I was misconstrued by the 4.5 stars from both places to give them a try because I needed a cheap haircut under $15. Alibrandi's offers $12 haircuts or $10 for seniors and kids. Upon walking in, you're presented with a hodge podge of historic sports memorabilia. This place has been around for a long time. There were 2 gentleman giving haircuts and with no line, the older fella offered to give me a haircut. I should have walked out at this point because I knew the price was too good to be true, but I was already there and I figured why not, let's give him a try, it's a slow day! But boy... do i regret making that choice. I showed the man (in his 70s) a picture of a combover and asked to keep the top long and the sides short - a high skin fade. He abides and we commence. Immediately I knew this wasnt going to be good when he quickly started with a "0" and finished my sides under a minute. He then used 2 more guards to round out the fade and used some scissors to blend - missing to go over the area again to catch any loose hairs. When we were done I didnt get a 360 view of my haircut and was told I was done. While taking off the apron, half the hair spilled on my shoulders and there was no use of blow drying to remove the hair. I mean come on... Just tiny things like a blow dryer to remove hair and even spending a few extra minutes to pay attention to detail would have more customers lining up, but I guess there's a market for these fast and rough haircuts. If you're short of money and dont care much about what the end product is but just want to remove some hair because it's either getting in the way or too long, this could be a good bargain for you. This or just using some scissors at home. I would pay to have my hair back :( 1 star because they were nice at least. read more

I have been getting haircuts here for over a decade. Most of the time the haircuts are great, sometimes good, and rarely it turns out a bit different from what I wished for. The most honest barber I've ever met. Who didn't cut my hair. And I paid in fruit. I am a man with longer, wavy hair. I went in to Alibrandi's with the intention of getting a good haircut. I took my seat. The older gentleman who cut my hair took off a few centimeters from the sides. After this cursory snip, the man said that he isn't used to cutting longer hair, and that I may be better off going to a stylist or salon. I asked if he had ever cut longer hair. "Sure. In the 60s." I asked what I owed. He demurred. I insisted. He said "well, I didn't really do anything. Maybe five bucks if you want?" I pulled out my credit card. "We don't take cards. Just don't worry about it." I said I could go to an ATM, but he wouldn't have it. I wanted to give him something for his efforts and kindness, so I offered him an orange from my bag. "Thanks! This will be breakfast for tomorrow," he said, without a trace of jest. Five stars, good sir. Five stars. read more

Found Alibrandi's after two years at school here - two years too late. Quick, cheap, and charming. The price just went up to $12 but it's still the cheapest in the area besides the questionable Ann Marie's. There's never a line at 8:30 in the morning, and you tend to get Tony when you go early. My fiance, Bill goes here and gets his haircut and beard trimmed. One day, we had to go to a wedding. We were eating breakfast at Renee's Cafe next door and then Bill decided to get his haircut at Alibrandi's. What a wise decision. Bill has gone to Alibrandi's a few times now and he always comes out looking like a million bucks. If you are a male and are in need of a haircut, I'd recommend you go to Alibrandi's. This place is also very inexpensive and the man who cuts hair is a sweetheart. I know this because I peeked through the window one day and watched him cut hair. Is that weird? Up until the beginning of this year I got my ears lowered at Fast Phil's over on Mass Ave. I had a few not-so-decent cuts after many months of fantastic visits, so I figured it was time to change it up. Living in Teele Square, Alibrandi's was the next in line, especially since it was well reviewed on a certain website. Though a cut will set you back an entire $12 instead of $10 at Fast Phil's, I figured I could splurge a bit on my head. My head is worth an extra $2, dammit. All price discussion aside, my haircuts are far more consistent now. I'm not sure what they guy's name is that cuts my hair usually, but he is the dude with the left-most chair. Straight forward cuts, no nonsense, and quick turnaround. I'm for it. The only complaint I have is that they are closed on Wednesdays. I've forgotten twice already and made the 50 yard walk from my apartment only to have to walk alllllll the way back, sans haircut. The first time I just went to see Phil since I needed it that day so I wouldn't look as homeless for an event that evening, and the second time I just waited until the next day. This fine establishment makes me wonder why I ever paid north of $25 for a haircut - let alone more than $10! This is the kind of barbershop I would have wanted to sponsor my little league team as a young tyke. The tried and true red white and blue cylinders swivelling outside, the eclectic old school sports memorabilia on the wall, coupled with the friendliness of the barbers, makes a visit here a comforting and inviting experience. The last time I was here, I was in and out in about 20 minutes and the barber had tamed the fro-esque curly beast on my head to a respectable cut. Granted, my hair does not require the most complicated level of care, but these guys do as good a job as I've gotten anywhere else. And if you're here early enough, you can grab a bite at Renee's Cafe next door. Highly recommended. read more

At first glance, you'd probably assume that my haircut isn't complicated. It's just a crew-cut after all. My dad even suggested that I could probably do the job myself. Au contraire mon Pere. There's an art and a science to a good crewcut and I happen to be particular about the way it's done because if it's not done correctly then my head resembles a block and that's just not a good look. That said, I have never had a bad clip at Alibrandi's. They get it right every time, no matter whose chair I'm in. This place isn't high on the "frills" list but it's cheap and I always leave feeling sharper than when I went in. I grew up going to a neighborhood barber shop in Philly with my dad and always loved watching tv and chatting with the guys there. When I moved to Medford, I came equipped with my own razor so that I wouldn't have to waste money or find a new place to get my hair cut. One trip to Alibrandi's later, I was completely hooked. The shop itself minuscule and full of Boston sports relics. The barbers are all chill, down-to-earth guys that are constantly shooting the shit with each other and their customers (who they all know by name). Best part? $12 haircuts. Just twelve freakin' bucks. The prices make me so happy that I'm always sure to leave them with $15 as a thank you (as should you!). It also goes without saying that they do a great job -- these guys know what they're doing. A seriously awesome barbershop that makes me proud to be a regular. read more

I don't know how but the trophys, the news papers, the autographs and the atmosphere all together is breath taking. Home of the $10 dollar haircut.I have been coming here forever. I always get what I want and it is only $10. Alibrandi himself gives the best haircuts and is great to talk with. Anytime I go somewhere else I do not get the same result as I do with Alibrandis (maybe because I get my haircut every 2-3 weeks and he has cut my hair about 200 times) He also cleans up your haircut with hot shaving cream and a real razor blade. I always give the same description of the haircut I want - 1-1.5 inches on top, #3 on the sides, blended. I don't know if this is a good idea or whether I am actually getting that haircut at all, but my hair definitely looks better when I go here compared to other places in Davis Square. read more

Stopped by in the morning for just a haircut. I didn't have to wait, but there was a pretty steady flow of customers. My haircut wasn't terrible, but I have to give Alibrandi's a low rating for a couple of reasons. First, I asked for my hair to be cut to certain lengths, but the guy cut to his own specifications and I wound up with a much shorter haircut than I would have liked. Also, my sideburns were uneven, and my ear arches were cut much higher than anywhere else I've been. I wasn't expecting much from a $12 cut, so I'm not too surprised with the final result. read more

This place rocks. Plain and simple. I waited about 3 seconds to get in the chair (lucky I guess) and then the whole haircut including a straight razor shave took about 5 minutes. This is a real barber shop. It's not a beauty parlor or a salon, but a regular working class place for people to get their hair cut. It's not a chain, it's not fancy, it's not upscale. But it is a great place to get a good, affordable haircut and to learn all about Somerville. The owner is a fixture of Somerville and has sponsored about every team you could think of, from both the high school and the city. He'll do what a good barber should do in a place like this: complain about the younger generation, gently tease his partners (all from the younger generation), ask about your health, and tell you everything you need to know from the day's paper, especially sports and politics. The good haircut gets tossed into the bargain, and you'll just pay $10 (discounts for seniors...tips gracefully accepted). Don't think this is some anti-woman haunt either. One of the barbers is a woman, and despite the strongly masculine feel of the place, it welcomes everyone. The clientele is as mixed as the city of Somerville: working class men, students from Tufts and Harvard, yuppies from Davis Square, and friends of the barbers are some of the people you'll meet on an average day. Does it have atmosphere? Absolutely, but not of the kind of a Newbury St. place. The walls are covered in sports- and Somerville-memorabilia, the waiting area a bit cramped, the music very much pre-rock Italian-Americana. As others have written, this is a great place to get a quick cut. Alibrandi himself cut my hair and it was fine. I gave it a 4 partially because of my own fault, as I should have asked him to cut the top a little shorter, but I fixed it when I got home. The atmosphere is great and the memorabilia is awesome. I'm glad I found this place when I was walking around the neighborhood. Price cannot be beat! And next time I'll actually ask him to do what I want after which I'll probably turn the 4 on the review into a 5. read more

I've been getting my hair cut at Alibrandi's for the past two years, and I would recommend this barber shop to anyone who is looking for a good hair cut at a great price ($12, cash only). Walking into Alibrandi's is like walking into a museum of Boston sports memorabilia. Remember when Orr scored "The Goal" in the 1970 cup finals? Me either...I wasn't born yet. Tony remembers though, and if you look around his shop, you'll probably find a photograph commemorating the famous event. Tony has been cutting hair for more than 50 years, and when you sit in his chair, you get a level of professional service that doesn't exist in most shops and salons today. Just moved to Somerville and it is so important to find a good barbershop and this is not it. I can't speak about anyone else but the Caribbean black guy cut my hair and it looks and it isn't terrible but I have certainly had way better. He took no time or care, and gave the type of cut that I would expect to get at a place like supercuts. I will say though that it was nice to get right in on a Saturday, but the convenience does not out weigh the poor hair cut. read more

Very wierd haircut encounter....Very sub par haircut. I am a regular at Razors in Somerville, have been for a couple years now. I needed to get my hair cut for a wedding and razors is on vacation for a week. Whats going through my mind when I see this? "Where in the hell am I going to go" . I need to go outside my comfort zone. So I yelped barbershops and this place came up. Right down the street from my house great. I get in there and I thought there was a long wait cause there were about 5 or 6 guys in there and one guy getting his hair cut. Nope, just a bunch of groupies hanging out. Some guy goes sit down son, ok will do. His skills were not too great, the whole time I'm thinking crap what did I get myself into.
