LOVE IT HERE!! I came here foe several shows. Most recently the Black Girl Magic Ball. The show was awesome and the venue helped to facilitate that. It was GA and we sat in the front balcony on the left. Best seat in the house. Seeing the entire stage and feeling the music. We were able to take cocktails inside as long as you had the sippy cup. Red or white wine...or a gin and tonic. Will definitely be back for another show. read more

This was my first time visiting this theater at Lincoln Center, and it turned out to be such a lovely night. We attended a holiday movie premiere presented by Amazon Prime Video. My friend got the tickets and invited me to join her. It was amazing! We also saw the cast of "Oh. What. Fun." on stage before the movie began, including Gwen Stefani. I didn't recognize her at first, but it really was her! The movie was great. It was funny and enjoyable. I highly recommend it. The venue was clean and organized, and they gave us a goodie bag with popcorn, a box of M&M's, and a free bottle of water. Unfortunately, my friend didn't get a water bottle at her seat; it was either missing or taken. She asked a security guard near the door if she could get one, but she didn't help or direct her to where she could find a replacement. She just said that every seat should have one. Well, clearly something went wrong, and it would've been nice if she had offered a solution. Good thing, I had my own empty water bottle where I was able to pour half of the water bottle I have and shared it with her. I didn't want her to get dehydrated in a crowded venue. Still, the situation could have been handled much better. Overall, we had a lovely evening despite the water bottle situation. read more

Great place to see a film. We were lucky enough to score tickets to "Deliver Me From Nowhere". Not the premiere, but the Monday Matinee. Seats are wider than normal theaters, with extra spacing. So walking in front of seated patrons isn't an annoyance. Huge wide screen, excellent sound system. An extra treat: The Q&A with Jeremy Allen White and Director Scott Cooper, made the whole experience well worth the price. I will definitely be back for more events. **Only gripe is getting the tickets. Waiting in line, for 2 hours is just the way it is. But they need a few more windows or agents working when Film Fest goes on sale. Plus the attitude of the security guard was unsettling. The level of spite and arrogance from someone, who could be replaced with a sign and a rope, has no place in Lincoln Center** read more

As part of the "Summer for the City" 2024 Series, we visited Alice Tully Hall to see MVP - A Stage Play inspired by the Life / Career of Director Melvin Van Peebles. We knew that we wanted to see this play, however the website indicated that tickets were "sold out". We took a chance waiting on the Standby Line & were there for about 30 minutes when we were informed that were extra tickets - Yay! Going to the Box Office, doing the "pay-what-we-wish" was quick, we got our tickets & were seated all before the play began.... I thought that my seat was quite comfy. MVP Cast included Melvin Van Peebles' Son / Actor Extraordinaire Mario Can Peebles (ex. New Jack City, etc.) and the Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber. MVP took place on the Adrienne Arsht Stage w/ the Starr Theater. Mario Van Peebles proudly narrated throughout the play and spoke so highly of his Father / Filmmaker / Writer Mario Van Peebles life, from humble beginnings, all about his travels, things Mario Can Peebles learned about / from his father, various career highlights including New Jack City, etc. Mario Van Peebles and the cast were amazing! Alice Tully Hall is a wonderful place to experience a performance at Lincoln Center. The acoustics are wonderful. Last weekend, we saw Kid Koala's The Storyville Mosquito, a production involving miniature sets on the stage, live puppetry, cinematography, and live music by Kid Koala and a string trio of Juilliard School musicians. Before entering the corner building, there was a metal detector and security outside of the building. Once you were inside, staff scanned your digital tickets and then let you pass through. Our seats were close to the stage, so we descended a flight of stairs to get there. I thought the seats were comfortable. The AV setup was cool with live projection of the puppet show. It was a memorable event in a nice venue. Also, it was a short walk from the hall to the LC garage. read more

Alice Tully Hall is a great place to experience a performance at Lincoln Center. I came here for a movie screening for Trap by M. Night Shyamalan. I have never been to Lincoln Center so I was excited to visit. As soon as you enter you experience the stylish and cozy main lounge. It is a massive theater with iconic halls. We arrived at Will Call to pick up our tickets. There was a large table of popcorn and water to select from. From there we walked downstairs to the main theater. We sat in Row J. We were able to see the movie on the large screen. The acoustics were loud and the visuals were amazing. The seats were very comfortable. Overall, this was a great venue to enjoy a show. I know they have several musical performances here as well. I would love to come back and enjoy another show sometime soon. read more

Alice Tally Hall is the quintessential place that comes to mind when thinking about the Lincoln Center complex with a vast array of the best musical performances in the world. The best of the best of the best perform here, making every performance a magical and unique experience. We wanted to see Xian Chang during the Summer for the City event going on these few months. It was absolutely incredible seeing this massive theater and iconic halls. Every seat has a fantastic view of the area and allows for a perfect experience. They do have an outside bar where you can buy drinks and snacks. They don't do physical programs anymore, however there are QR codes near the doors to allow you to pull up programs for the event going on that night. I highly suggest coming here if you want to experience a once (or more) in a lifetime musical performance that will take your breath away! read more

I was here attending the ICN International Music Festival. What a stellar night of East meets West in classical music! 1st and foremost, I feel they couldn't have picked a better venue than Alice Tully hall. The place was amazing! Beautiful interior wood panels adorned the walls of the concert hall and the acoustics were warm and surrounded you with pure musical energy! Like I said the acoustics were perfect and ICN did not disappoint with the talent. Beautiful piano playing by Diyi Tang, Miao Hou, Hao Shen, and Yue Chu. Dongling Gao gave a beautiful rendition of habanera from "Carmen" William Knuth was awesome on the violin. The highlight of the night for me was to watch and listen to Zuill Bailey play his amazing cello. The 2nd half of the concert showcased the talented children. It looked like the kids ranged from 6 to 13 years old. The kids have some serious skills! Overall a wonderful night! This hall is adjacent to the main Lincoln Center Plaza, but it's just as beautiful. The front lobby is all glass with a small bar and sitting area. Anyone can sit here and it's also where you get tickets. There is another glass wall that allows you into the ticketed area. There is only one concert hall here, so it's pretty straightforward how you get to your seats. I heard it was newly renovated, and it certainly feels that way. There is curved modern wood that lines the walls, with some weird spikes coming from behind the stage and lit up in red the night I came. In any case, I was here for the Brandenburg concertos 1-6. The acoustics were phenomenal. Obviously, your experience here depends on the concert, but it's an intimate setting with great acoustics. read more

I went to a concert last week I believe or the week before and it was very nice. The only cons is that there were teenagers sitting behind me talking during the concert and that was very distracting. I asked the staff if I could sit all the way in the back and he said ok. Next time I will sit all the way in the back. It's a small concert hall so balcony seats work just fine. read more

This may be an unpopular opinion, but here goes. I am a classical musician. Classical music has played a tremendous role in my life- since childhood. I have seen hundreds of classical music performances and recitals in my lifetime. Came to Alice Tully Hall for a fabulous violinist last night, and yes-- the space is incredible- the acoustics are amazing, the seating is comfortable (and nice that they planned for enough space in the seating for people to walk by you without having to move!), and it's gorgeous. However, their late seating policy is RIDICULOUS. This is New York- trains get messed up all the time. Yes, yes, leave home earlier... but listen. Shit happens-- We all have jobs, we're coming in from great distances to see performances, we're doing the best we can. Last night, was 5 minutes late to a 7:30PM show, and wasn't allowed in at all during the first half of the program. The violinist played two different pieces. There was plenty of time in between the first piece and the second- my friend who was inside said that she definitely left the stage in between pieces. And yet, we were not allowed in during that break for applause, and when the artist herself had left the stage. I understand completely not seating people while a musician is playing, but not to be seated until intermission is extreme and severe. I spent $110 on my ticket, and missed half of the program. I felt like I was being punished-- and I was (along with ~30 other poor souls) - in the gleaming and stuffy Morgan Stanley lobby. Music is FOR THE PEOPLE. I believe this strongly. Classical music is FOR EVERYONE - and it's so important that the classical music world embraces inclusion so that it lives on. But when fine arts institutions enforce ridiculous policies like this, it makes people cringe at what we do, and stereotype the music as pretentious, rigid, and stuffy. For the record, all of the older patrons hawking up a lung between movements is way more offensive than patrons quietly coming into find their seats during applause. Also, I couldn't help but notice that out of the nearly sold out concert hall, I saw no people of color. I wish I was exaggerating, but it's true. That speaks volumes. Really disappointed. This isn't what music is about. read more

My two highlights are: seeing an anniversary film screening of 'The Princess Bride,' with a Q&A with almost the entire cast right after; and a musical performance with some Juilliard musician friends. Get your classy clothes out when you go to Alice Tully Hall. You want to be well-dressed to match the crowd. When you step in, there is a bar area where you can sit, chat, and have a drink before going in. The prices are high, but you're in a bar on the Upper West Side, so what do you expect? The venue is gorgeous and beautifully decorated. Sit down, and get ready for a nice time at whatever event happens to be playing when you're here. If it's a film or performance, you can be sure the acoustics and ambiance are just right for a memorable night out. Recommended. read more

I suspect the enjoyment of a venue is, in large part, a function of the performance at hand. If so, then Alice Tully Hall is pretty amazing. I came up here with a friend for the NY Film Festival's showing of Crossroads of Youth, one of the first Korean movies. It is a silent black and white movie dating prior to WWII. The acoustics were such that the three piece band, singers, and incredible narrator could be heard clearly and distinctively, especially since the silent movie had no need for such considerations. The seating was spacious and gently sloped upward so that every cushioned seat had a clear view of the stage. I could definitely understand why a performance hall was chosen for the viewing of this movie rather than a movie theater. It was more of a movie + theater production than just a movie. I wish there were more movies presented in this format because it was simply too amazing for words. read more

The beauty of the space and sound get 5 juicy stars. The place was built for sound! I'm no audiophile, but this place makes you appreciate acoustics. The reason I'm not giving the Hall 5 stars overall is because the logistics of getting into the space as well as the lighting situation near the aisles in the back orchestra gets 2 dim stars. I went to two events during the opening nights festival...we saw both the London Philharmonic and also Ustad Shujaat Khan perform. Both times, we were in the very back of the orchestra section (on opposite ends) and were pleased with the view and sound (there isn't a bad seat in the house in terms of visibility). The only complaint is the aisle lights that shine down are right in your face on the edges of the aisles in the back of the house and they aren't dimmed during the performance. They're bright halogen type lights that are right in your face...you get used to them, but next time I go, I won't sit on the aisle in the back. The other thing that needs improvement is how the staff gets people into the venue. There are no signs for where to go to pick up your ticket and they don't give you any direction of where to go to get into the theater. And then they're very slow checking your tickets in an unclearly marked line that encourages cutting and heightens frustration. read more

This is a mid-sized venue at Lincoln Center with a beautiful modern design. You can mostly see concerts here and the acoustics are excellent. This theater has the most spacious seats of any theater I have been in. There are also nice large restrooms. read more

Gorgeous hall- I just went here yesterday to see the American Classical Orchestra perform. The hall itself was beautiful and spacious, the seats were comfortable and wide (I didn't have to stand up every time somebody needed to get by!), and from where I was sitting at least, the acoustics were great. I think the Orchestra and singers really did a great job of filling up the space and the hall made sure that every note was heard clearly. Directly outside they have a cafe where they serve snacks and wine- although we went the cheap route for dinner (food truck on the side of the street!) I want to come back and try that cafe. We sat outside before the performance with our food on these stone benches they have directly outside of the hall and it was perfect. I've seen a couple of other performances and films at Lincoln Center, but this was my first time in the Alice Tully Hall. It was amazing! read more

in early spring this year, i was fortunate enough to have seen the excellent budapest festival orchestra perform the beethoven symphonies with the great ivan fischer as conductor. it was an interesting concept and twist on the complete cycle: on some days some of the symphonies were played using period instruments (by another orchestra), to approximate how the pieces sounded during beethoven's time. and on some days, the rest were played by a modern symphony orchestra (the BFO). but anyway- about the concert hall itself, the not-so-new-anymore starr theater of the alice tully hall is GORGEOUS, and dare i say it- sexy and seductive! the all-wood paneling makes the entire space feel warm and intimate. the seats are modern and comfortable. plenty of leg room, although that's also because there is no middle aisle. as for acoustics- perfect for a small hall. on another occasion i saw thomas hampson perform a solo recital of love songs by barber and schumann. just him and a piano onstage. his voice soared, and i could imagine that even if you were seated all the way in the back, you would have heard every note clearly. but then again that was thomas hampson. :-) i always look forward to attending shows at alice tully hall. a good tip would be to look out for those juilliard student recitals, which are free and are sometimes held in this concert hall. read more

Somehow we happen to show up here and everyone was just hanging out at the Alice Tully Hall and enjoy drinking at the bar. We happen to meet a great people there and started to chat with them and drink w/them too. The only drawback that day was the bathroom situation. There were such a long line for the bathroom and the bathroom was super small. The building is the state of the art but they don't build bathroom big enough? Come on!!! Came for the New York Film Festival 2013 to see The Wind Rises by Hayao Miyazaki. This theatre is clean and offers many seats with good view, it is not fancy theatre with antique decoration but has nice sound quality for film. More like modern than classic. The film was just amazing, five stars plus. (though it was funny how people reacts to the film that tells this film in this nation is still for entertaining.) read more

Great venue, it's smaller than Avery Fisher Hall and Carnegie Hall but it is still a fair sized venue. Acoustics were great and I think it's recently renovated - it didn't seem that old or anything. And the seating is great. The auditorium is slightly sloped so the people sitting in front of you are not completely obscuring your view. I came here a couple months ago for a chamber music concert and again the acoustics were great. Seating was comfortable. Restrooms were decent. read more

I was just in NYC for the summer so I didn't realize this Hall was recently renovated. I would love to see an orchestra perform here so I could really enjoy the acoustics. finally got a chance to check out a concert in the new alice tully hall. while i wasn't a fan of the fake laminate wood paneling that is EVERYWHERE, i did appreciate the other aesthetics of the place -- rolling walls that evoked a sense of being in the captains seat of a spaceship. additionally, the seats were pretty comfortable, and it seems like there really isn't a bad seat in the house. the acoustics were great, and because the hall is so small, you're in and out in a flash. (just try that in carnegie or avery fisher -- can't be done.) so i'll say i'm a fan, and look forward to catching more shows at AT. read more

This is one of the most unexpected venues that I've attended for my numerous concert experiences. I decided to see Antony and the Johnsons here, rather than a typical Orchestra concert, but he was performing alongside the St Luke's Orchestra. Everyone else is spot on with the acoustics. I've been catching some of the movies on this year's New York Film Festival slate, and it is a treat to see a film projected onto Alice Tully's massive screen. The seats are nicely sloped so that you never lose a subtitle behind someone's head. The theater might be the only one in the city that isn't freezing. And the gentle bell bongs that sound when you're dithering in the bathroom and need to get back to your seat--nice touch. I'm not sure I can ever go back to the Lincoln Plaza Cinemas, with elderly bouffants obscuring the TV-sized screens, after an experience like this. read more
