This is The Red Lion? Oh I see, this isn't the same as The Lion where an unknown singer named Barbra Streisand burst into public view for the first time over six decades ago. You can turn your gaydar off now. However, like The Lion in days of yore, this is indeed a live music venue and has been for quite some time. Jamie W and I were just trying to avoid the heat, so here we were. It was past noon, and the live music didn't start until 1PM. The space felt like a vintage tavern with a lot of dark wood wainscoting panels. We ordered a couple of their signature cocktails. Jamie went with the $14 Strange Brew, a caffeine-fueled mix of Jameson cold brew whiskey, Bailey's, and iced coffee (Photo 8). I ordered the $14 Start Me Up, a tart version of a Pimm's Cup mixed with lemon juice, berries, and mint (Photo 9). Neither drink had the potency we were hoping to find. Mine was particularly watery, and frankly we weren't sure if the bartender was trying to encourage a second round from us. We did manage to feel peckish and ordered the $9 Deviled Eggs which they well overstuffed with mayo, Dijon, and curry powder (Photo 10). We got served just as a talented young girl took the stage with her guitar in front of only a handful of people (Photo 6). Good luck, sweetie. Picking my kid up from school we walked past this restaurant and saw an outside sign that said " 50 cent wings." They had me at 50 cents!! I went inside and asked the host if she was allowed to come inside with me, she said " yes! From 2pm-9pm she's welcome." We went home got ready and headed right back out. When we got there she said " you can sit anywhere." For a person handling everything at the time and I mean bartending, waitressing and being the host, she did amazing! She did explain to us that although the wings were 50 Cents the minimum u can get is 5 or 6. We ordered Bbq wings, mozzarella sticks, french fries, and regular wings. Everything tasted delicious and cooked to perfection. We came out this place looking like we ate a whale lol. They have juice, soda, and water for beverages, as well as alcoholic drinks. Came here for the $0.50 wings Tuesdays and had an excellent time! The restaurant has a dive-bar feel, and around 7, the live band starts playing. I'd recommend going before that if you want to have a conversation and hear each other. The wings ranged quite a bit in quality between different flavors. To me, dry cajun was DRY, and the buffalo was a bit salty, which was unfortunate. However, the chili sauce was excellent, and the wings are big and juicy for the most part. There is a two-drink requirement, but the drinks are well-priced, which is nice. Service was a bit slow since we were tucked away in a corner, but we weren't expecting the fastest service. read more

It's amazing what one server can do to influence the experience of six patrons. We were having a great time celebrating my husband's birthday. The music was great. unfortunately, one server decided to take a 1/2 full beer from a table that we put it down on. When she was approached about it she non chalantly stated "what do you want me to do, bring you a couple of once's of beer"? My husband was really upset and I asked her to make it right. She said "sure" and brought him a beer with 2 ounces In it. I consider that a slap in the face. Needless to say, we will never go there again. - read more

The food wasn't anything amazing (in fact I personally think they could have been cheaper for the quality we received). We were also seated next to the speakers which I think was not the best spot for a date. (We couldn't hear each other at all.) We ended up just getting up and listening to the live music afterwards, which was much more fun. At some point, there was a not so pleasant musky smell that forced us to leave. On July 18, 2025, around 11 PM, I paid the entrance fee, but the staff at the door failed to stamp my hand. I stepped outside briefly, and when I tried to return, a security guard fiercely pushed me out without giving me a chance to explain. It was aggressive, rude, and completely unnecessary. When my female friend tried to speak up, another security guard dismissed her by saying, "It's a man talk," which was not only unprofessional but blatantly sexist. I had done nothing wrong, yet I was treated with disrespect and force. This kind of behavior from the security team is unacceptable and deeply disappointing. If someone in charge sees this, I'm open to speaking further -- and I encourage you to check your cameras and review how your staff treated me. I hope no one else has to go through this. read more

Visited NYC for the weekend and decided to hit The Red Lion in the Village on Saturday around 5pm to catch some live music and enjoy a few pints of Guinness. The place was packed and the atmosphere was electric for so early in the evening. They had a very good cover band playing called "Sweet Police". Three guitars with a rocking drummer & strong-voiced lead singer. They covered a range of genres including current stuff, 90's and '00s hits and even nailed Taylor Swift! The standing room only crowd was dancing and singing along with the lead singer (Alice). We crammed into a corner and enjoyed the show and then hung out for an hour after they ended. It was hard to move around but the bartenders and waiters were quick to get your drink and the vibe among the crowd was upbeat/cool (mostly 20's and 30's). Would recommend going there again. read more

If you are looking for quiet and relaxing pub, this is not the place. If you are looking for a busy and loud sports bar, then the Red Lion is for you. Located on a busy stretch of Bleecker Street, this place is big but still gets packed at night. The crowd can be mixed but because of its location, you 'll see mostly young adults in here. The best reason to come here is their happy hour. On Monday to Fridays from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, they have beers for $4, cocktails for $6 or $7, and a bunch of appetizers available too at discounted prices. I would avoid this place on the weekends though due to crowds, but that's me. read more

This place has one of the best deals in the city! My husband and I like coming here for the happy hour wings. If you come on a Tuesday and order a minimum of 2 drinks, you can get 50 cent wings of your choice. When we went, they had Buffalo, Parmesan, sweet chili, and barbecue. The chicken wings were pretty substantial and I thought they were extremely worth it. For my 2 drinks, I opted for Magners Pear Cider (which is one of my favorite ciders) There's also live music, which makes the night super fun! A couple friends and I decided to try this casual bar spot for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. However, the service was lacking. The outdoor seating was nicely sprawled out in a spacious setting. There was no menu given to us because we had to view it online. I ordered the chicken and mushroom quesadilla, as well as the truffle tater tots {because I love truffle anything!} The quesadilla was filled with melted swiss, cheddar, and pepper jack cheeses, and served with pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream. The tortilla shells were perfectly lightly crisp and the mixture of cheeses worked really well together. They were melty in your mouth delicious. There were also plenty of pieces of chicken and slices of mushroom. The chicken was slightly crunchy with tasty seasoning, as well as tender and juicy. The mushroom was fresh and cooked well. I loved how much of each ingredient was in the quesadilla, making it very thick and filling. The truffle tater tots were absolutely delicious! They were served with Parmesan cheese. Wonderfully crisp and strong flavor of truffle oil permeated the tater tots. I also got to try the fried zucchini, which also had shredded Parmesan cheese on top. These were expertly breaded and boasted a satisfying crunch. There was definitely a lot of flavor packed into this appetizer. The service was not great, because we had to go to the window for everything: Ordering, asking for water or napkins, and finally, to pay for the meal. My friends and I took turns to do each, so I had to request the check, as well as pay. There were a few folks ahead of me, so I ended up having to wait longer than I wanted. I understand that many of these precautions need to take place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but it seemed we had to take care of everything, so it was basically self-service. So....went on for a drink with my husband and two friends. We were welcomed at the door but no mention of "do you want a table". So our husbands preceded to the bar for drinks and my friend and I went to find a table. We were met by a server lady who said what do you want, I said we're ordering at the bar, at which point she went pretty apoplectic saying we couldn't sit there if we had drinks from the bar. My friend went to go see if they'd ordered yet, I stayed at the table. My friend came back and said we have to move cause they'd already paid at the bar for our drinks. So we moved with our coats and bags back to the bar. But like wth I wanted to sit down! Why is it up to me to me/us to know the etiquette of the pub we had entered! I approached a chap behind the bar and advised him of our issue and that I just wanted a seat, there were lots of tables free. As I was speaking to him the server in question came up behind him, I said it was "you" that said we couldn't sit. She said "our drinks needed to be transferred to her" and she'd said that to my friend. Again wth I just wanted a drink and a seat in a pub!! Sort your bar/server transfers out without involving the customer, I mean it's not like I brought a drink from another pub, I bought from your bar! . Anyway lesson is, Red Lion, awful experience, we left after the round we bought despite the live music going on. Went to the slainte bar in the Bowery 5 mins walk away and had the BEST welcome and drinks. Like chalk and cheese. read more

Bummer. Love this place. Born and raised New Yorker. Came in for a couple drinks tonight and sat outside. Bartender said nothing when we took our drinks outside with a gazillion open tables, a server came by once and said you guys good? And never came back. We got a second drink bartender served us again saw us go out not a word. As my partner went in for one last round a doorman was there and carded him and my partner said no prob were here already just cashing out he got one more drink cashed out and then the bouncer was like hey dude you can't take drinks outside you need a server. My partner explained totally fine we're closed out and we had a server he never mentioned this to us nor did the bartender and the server never came back after his first pass by. I went in because that was a pretty shitty unnecessary experience and we would have been happy to have a server if the server would have told us and/or came back or the bartender let us know. The bouncer was rude and disrespectful as my partner walked out. My New York energy doesn't have time for unnecessary drama so when I went in to use the bathroom I approached the bouncer and calmly told him the same scenario and I said it's not my problem if your server doesn't serve me and he said "it is your problem!" and at that point I walked away and as I walked away he called me "Karen" - Lolol what? How is it my problem I didn't follow your rules that the bartender or server didn't even mention. I'd be fine if a server served us he never asked to. calling someone Karen is weird and immature particularly when all i did was inquire why the rules weren't clear -- happy to follow rules if anyone told them. I tried to talk to the bar staff, yes me "Karen", who was upset how I was treated when asking why I was reprimanded by a bouncer for not following ordering rules that the bartender nor server told us; the day bartender who had served us was super kind and said she'd speak to the bouncer (will she or was she just trying to placate me). But the night manager who was actually responsible "George" said oh I'm sorry and I said really that's all your going to; you're sorry? You didn't state your rules nor did the bartender OR the server who came over. And then I get called names? Listen we want to come back bc we like the vibe here but something better needs to be done. There's a million doormen in the city get rid of that one, train your staff and find a capable decent human being to handle your door and focus on if there's a real problem.
