Depending on how long guests stay sometimes those seats are available as a first come first served so we were lucky. Our server was great and she explained the menu. I opted for the chefs menu which did not disappoint. Every course was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. It was fun to try everything including their starter course of three items. The oyster miso was quite a stand out for me. All of the fish prepared was delicate and lovely. The Parker rolls were soft and a nice complement. My friend who is less adventurous with seafood opted for their shrimp tempera roll, which was as good as you could make a shrimp tempera roll. Well prepared as well as their charcuterie board which we could not finish after everything. It was a memorable night I won't forget with nice entertainment and great staff. Went here for a casual get together with some colleagues when I was in NY. The Jazz vibes were honestly the reason to pick this place. It's a low key establishment from the outside but once you are in it feels a lot more trendy. The stage is right in the front and all the tables can get a good view of the stage. The music can be loud at times and the ambience is more on the dimly lit side but still a great spot. The service was great, and the drink selection was cool too. I would definitely pick from the selection of speciality cocktails. I got the smoked old fashioned (or similar) and that was potent, Smokey and delicious. We also got a few bites to eat. When we sat down, menus were placed in front of us without any greeting. While not a huge issue on its own, it set the tone for the rest of the experience. The bartender seemed confused by the question and responded dismissively, saying that "it comes in a tin," which didn't answer our question. My friend and I came here for their special Winter Restaurant Week menu - we were particularly drawn to the ambiance and opportunity to listen to live music during a special dinner. I highly recommend making a reservation beforehand to try to ensure as much of a chance to be seated on the main floor - we got a table for 2 at 6pm and luckily the musicians were already beginning to play (I was initially worried that the live music wouldn't start until later on, maybe it just depends on the day). They offer a $45 or $60 dinner menu as part of their Restaurant Week special - we both ended up choosing our meals from the $45. I appreciated how the menu was clearly labelled for different dietary accommodations, as I have a gluten allergy. Service was quite attentive and friendly, though I was surprised that we weren't offered any bread as a starter, even though the table right next to us had a bread basket on their table. For our appetizer, both of us got the temaki duo, which was a set of salmon and tuna. In my opinion, the salmon was a lot more flavorful than the tuna, but both were great overall! My friend ordered the sushi box (which was presented beautifully within a box of literal ice) and I ordered the grilled branzino. My fish was cooked really well and it was super tender and flavorful. I also loved how crispy the skin was! However, if you're going strictly for the value, I would definitely recommend the sushi box - the grilled branzino portion honestly kind of paled in comparison to everything included within the sushi box, and I can't comment on the third entree. For dessert, we both opted for the caramel chocolate gelato, which was really creamy and filled with actual chocolate candies with caramel inside, so it was a super indulgent way to end our meal. Overall, we were really satisfied with our Restaurant Week dinner experience even though there were a few hiccups here and there. Best thing I can say is that this is a great date spot. Also a good spot to spend with friends and family. The ambiance was great with dim lighting. The layout gave it a speakeasy old school vibe. I highly recommend getting a reservation near the stage if you can. I'd advise against not making a reservation in the first place. If you have to take the bar it's certainly doable. As long as you can see the stage it'll be worth it. Speaking of, the live music was great. To me it was the star of the establishment. I honestly do not think I'd enjoy this place as much as I did without it. Now, the food. It was honestly the weakest part of the night. Not that it was bad because it wasn't. If I were to judge this place on the food alone I'd probably give it a 3 based on what I got. I'm sure there are better things on menu but I'm not a fan of seafood. I got the seared chicken truffle roulade. It was either that or the burger. The meal was good. The chicken was fine as well as the sides. I have no complaints honestly, I just wasn't blown away is all. It was fulfilling but if you have a big appetite maybe not. The dessert was good as well. We were seated at the closest table to the stage. When I say closest, I mean the edge of the table was maybe 5 inches from the stage. When the music started it was so loud I could not even have a proper conversation. I asked the hostess to move us to a table further back. It was very busy so it took some time but we were eventually moved to a table further back and wow did that make a difference. The music was more jazz type but it was nice. The band took frequent and long breaks which was unfortunate. The servers were great and attentive. To celebrate our anniversary they gave us complimentary glasses of champagne which was a nice touch. We ordered the petite version of the 28 layer chocolate cake. It tasted good but the cake itself was dry. The frosting helped. The gin freezer martini was premade and not freshly made. The server came over and poured it into the glass from a large jar table side. In total we spent $80 on 2 drinks and a piece of cake. It was like an entire glass of vermouth. Maybe I'm missing something and just not a fan of vermouth, but it's never bothered me in a martini before. I'm seeing articles about the recipe saying it's intended to be vermouth-forward, but I didn't taste any tomato liqueur, no olive oil notes, just overwhelming vermouth flavor. While searching for a jazz club to visit in the city with reservations, I came across the Flatiron Room. I made a reservation for my boyfriend and I for 5 pm on a Sunday and there was a performance scheduled for 6 pm. We loved the interior. It has a dark, vibey, and upscale feel and was perfect for a jazz club. Service was also great throughout our visit. We ordered the cucumber and avocado roll, shrimp tempura, two drinks, and the flatiron sphere for dessert. The sushi roll was surprisingly good and despite the shrimp tempura's steep price, we felt that it was freshly made and not frozen. The raspberry spritz was pretty good, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the garden of eden. I felt that the herbs were overpowering and the drink was overall bitter and lacking sweetness, However, it was beautifully presented with rosemary, mint, and berries within the drink and a honeycomb pattern on the ice. The dessert was impressive and involved pouring of hot chocolate to melt a chocolate shell to reveal an ice cream cake. We also received a small complimentary cupcake for my bf's birthday. The Flatiron Room in NoMad has been a constant on the NYC nightlife scene since it opened in 2012, with a second location in Murray Hill. Known for their extensive distilled spirits collection and live music, its intimate, dim atmosphere, scarlet velvet-curtained stage, pink backlit liquor cabinets, and semi-private balustraded second floor balcony booths all exude a 1920s vintage speakeasy feel. An evening here is like simultaneously stepping back in time while being able to enjoy some of the best cocktails and liquors modern times have to offer. Last Saturday our party of 7 arrived for a friend's birthday with reservations at 7:30pm. Some of our party arrived around 30 minutes late as they were delayed coming from a separate dinner though the staff were kind enough to seat the early arrivals first. Our waiter was excellent the entire evening, able to give recommendations, answer questions, check in occasionally, and very cordial so top marks for service hence the extra half star. The menu here consists of a fairly extensive list of signature cocktails ($21-24), beers, ciders and non-alcoholic cocktails ($10-15), "prestige" cocktails ($45), wines, sparkling wines, and champagne ($ wide range by glass or bottle), and food from cold and warm apps ($16-29), caviar and seafood platters ($95-395), mains ($30 for eggplant tagiatelle to $185 for a 48oz tomahawk steak), and sides and supplements ($14-48). Food style appears to be mostly traditional American with some indulgent items like caviar and lobster added in. Since most of the party had eaten dinner prior, we ended up ordering a few apps to share, crab cakes $23, bourbon bbq meatballs $21 and truffle fries $16. The portions of the crab cakes were on the smaller side though at a spot like this you're here to enjoy the ambiance, live music, drinks and company so it's understandable why there's a premium. Taste-wise the crab cakes were well-seasoned with a Cajun flare though a little too salty. The meatballs were good with a nuanced sweetness from the bourbon. The truffle fries were a decent serving, good truffle flavor though I like my fries crispity crisp and some of them were a bit soft in the middle. For dessert they bring out a little mini cupcake with a candle for the birthday celebrant, although no singing which made sense since it was during a music set. Considering the popularity of the Flatiron Sphere $24 dessert we ordered one to try. It was a spectacle and very chocolatey--as someone who loves chocolate--maybe even too chocolatey. The strawberries added slight acidity though were already macerated and sweetened so overall the bittersweet chocolate with vanilla flavor overpowered the entire dessert. Would recommend this as a sharing item between 2-3 people, too much of a single flavor to be a good thing for just one person. For drinks we ordered couple Blackberry Gimlets $21, an Espresso Martini $22, a Smoking Old Fashioned $23, one Four Roses Small batch Old Fashioned $22, a Blanton's Original Single Barrel Bourbon $28. Everyone enjoyed their drinks though given that our reservation time was up at 9:30pm, this didn't give us enough time to order another round and sip leisurely so we opted to head to a different bar afterwards. read more

The live Jazz was fantastic, the food was finger-licking good, and the drinks were on point. I only have two points of note: 1. While they do serve food and drink, they do not serve hot drinks like tea/coffee, and 2. I'm not sure what their prices are like on a regular basis, but the NYE experience cost a pretty penny. Surprised the Hubs with our 10 year anniversary at this spot. It a place we've been eyeing for a while. This seemed like the perfect opportunity and excuse to come here and celebrate. This place is swannnnnkkkyyy. The dim lit room you enter upon seating at your table definitely has a vibe. The long dining area holds a pretty lengthy bar with a small stage at the end of the room. To the right (if you're facing the stage) are private booths where the performers can station during their breaks. We were given a small table closer to the stage and that was super fun. Rich T. and the Nighttrain was our entertainment for the evening and did they crush it. Rich smartly rearranges classics and current hits that we are all familiar with and gives them a jazzy twist. Drummer T Bone Motta held it down as well and they both can put on a great show by themselves in their own right, but they play well off each other and it was so fun to watch. We even got to hang out and chat with them after dinner as we waited for our Uber outside. Two standup gentlemen that I hope to see play again soon. Back to the restaurant - The place is beautiful, and the service was absolutely impeccable. I had the smoky old fashioned which was so fun and smooth. The food though, was slightly disappointing. We started with the House Made Focaccia bread. It wasn't so much a focaccia bread as it was very dense and lacked flavor. The two butters that came with the bread (one sweet, one savory) were good but didn't do much for the bread. For dinner I got the crab cakes while Hubs got the burger. Again, nothing too special to write about. The menu said you can add truffle fries to the burger but it seemed like they already came with the burger. The fries were tasty and were probably better than the burger. My crab cakes were good, but again lacked something. I did appreciate the huge lumps of crab and how the dish itself wasn't fishy in the slightest. Finally we finished with the 28 layer cake that gets chocolate sauce poured over tableside. Not too sweet, this cake is super epic. I would be interested to try the other dessert as they looked quite good. I think my next visit will consist more of small plates like a meat and cheeseboard. Moral of the story is that this spot is amazing for a date night or a great spot for a small group to hang out at.
