Just excellent. Great ambiance of classic decor. More whisky than almost anywhere. And live music. Soft enough that I can have a conversation. What's surprising though is the quality of the food. Usually these kinds of joints have food as an afterthought. Not here. Food is really fantastic. Everything from freshness of oysters to Tomahawk stark talkative is as good if not better than any steakhouse. Service is attentive and great. These guys know their whiskies! Highly recommended!

Stopped in on a Friday night to hear some jazz music and got a seat at the bar no problem. 4 stars because I didn't taste any of the food but I would like to try it Great place to meet some friends or a date. Also recommend heading over after seeing the free Morgan Library Friday nights (this jazz at flatiron is better with a live singer)

A fun Saturday evening at the Flatiron room in nomad. We had prior reservations and got there at 6.45 to be immediately seated. The ambiance alone is worth a trip and we loved our seats close to the main stage. Service is attentive and nice. There's an old world charm and no denying that it's a New York experience as you sip a Manhattan and listen to live jazz. I was personally a tad disappointed in the food, but I'll be back for the feels

The Flatiron room was such an amazing experience! I loved the setup and the atmosphere. Even the washrooms had wonderful decor. We loved seeing the ragtime jazz and the menu selection was exquisite. Though our favorite part may have been the service. Our waitress Shelley did a great job attending our table and making us feel very special while we were celebrating. Another cool note about the FlatIron room is that they have a unique bottle storage service where you can purchase alcohol and they will store it for you if you don't finish. You can see the bottle cabinets displayed throughout the house lending to a swanky atmosphere. Thanks Flatiron room for making our time so special!

This place was a mature vibe. They have live jazz music. It's 2 levels in the restaurant. I went with a large group and were seated upstairs. They open up at 5pm everyday. The food and drinks were good. The entrees however are not large portions. I would try here again but with a smaller group.

My friend and I came here specifically for the caviar service, which was phenomenal. Unfortunately, the service at the bar did not match the quality of the food. When we sat down, menus were placed in front of us without any greeting. While not a huge issue on its own, it set the tone for the rest of the experience. We ordered the caviar service and a cheeseboard, and when we noticed the caviar came with hamachi, we asked how it would be prepared. The bartender seemed confused by the question and responded dismissively, saying that "it comes in a tin," which didn't answer our question. When the food arrived, we asked for guidance on how to eat the caviar (it was my first time and felt a bit intimidating). The bartender told us he didn't know because it "wasn't really his thing." My friend asked if someone else could help us, but we got no response. For $118 an ounce we really expected a higher level of service and knowledge. We also ordered the sushi platter, branzino, and several rounds of drinks, all of which were delicious! however, the bad service overshadowed the experience, and unfortunately, I won't be returning.

So we can't wait to go back! The ambience was dark and reminded me of a speakeasy. It wasn't easy to see the menu but we managed with the mini lights at the table. The service here was excellent!! They anticipated needs before we could articulate. The dishes came out hot and tasty. The portion sizes were quite adequate for NYC. The drinks are a bit pricey but a given for the zip code. Looking forward to going back. And the entertainment was fabulous on the night we were there. Had a great time celebrating a birthday. We were a party of 8 and never felt like we'd overwhelmed the staff.

We were trying to find a bar near the K town area and most of them are super full, including the flatiron room. We were on the waitlist, but we were able to get a standing spot toward the back of the stage. I ordered a smoked old fashioned, but I think it is too sweet for me. The live music is great and we love the vibe!

My friend and I came here for their special Winter Restaurant Week menu - we were particularly drawn to the ambiance and opportunity to listen to live music during a special dinner. I highly recommend making a reservation beforehand to try to ensure as much of a chance to be seated on the main floor - we got a table for 2 at 6pm and luckily the musicians were already beginning to play (I was initially worried that the live music wouldn't start until later on, maybe it just depends on the day). They offer a $45 or $60 dinner menu as part of their Restaurant Week special - we both ended up choosing our meals from the $45. I appreciated how the menu was clearly labelled for different dietary accommodations, as I have a gluten allergy. Service was quite attentive and friendly, though I was surprised that we weren't offered any bread as a starter, even though the table right next to us had a bread basket on their table. For our appetizer, both of us got the temaki duo, which was a set of salmon and tuna. In my opinion, the salmon was a lot more flavorful than the tuna, but both were great overall! My friend ordered the sushi box (which was presented beautifully within a box of literal ice) and I ordered the grilled branzino. My fish was cooked really well and it was super tender and flavorful. I also loved how crispy the skin was! However, if you're going strictly for the value, I would definitely recommend the sushi box - the grilled branzino portion honestly kind of paled in comparison to everything included within the sushi box, and I can't comment on the third entree. For dessert, we both opted for the caramel chocolate gelato, which was really creamy and filled with actual chocolate candies with caramel inside, so it was a super indulgent way to end our meal. Overall, we were really satisfied with our Restaurant Week dinner experience even though there were a few hiccups here and there. I think the ambiance/decor, the amazing bar, and the music really make this a special place!

Best thing I can say is that this is a great date spot. Also a good spot to spend with friends and family. The ambiance was great with dim lighting. The layout gave it a speakeasy old school vibe. Looking at the restaurant from the outside you'd be surprised at what's going inside. Almost like a best kept secret. I'm disappointed I didn't come sooner. I highly recommend getting a reservation near the stage if you can. I'd advise against not making a reservation in the first place. If you have to take the bar it's certainly doable. As long as you can see the stage it'll be worth it. Speaking of, the live music was great. To me it was the star of the establishment. I honestly do not think I'd enjoy this place as much as I did without it. Now, the food. It was honestly the weakest part of the night. Not that it was bad because it wasn't. If I were to judge this place on the food alone I'd probably give it a 3 based on what I got. I'm sure there are better things on menu but I'm not a fan of seafood. I got the seared chicken truffle roulade. It was either that or the burger. The meal was good. The chicken was fine as well as the sides. I have no complaints honestly, I just wasn't blown away is all. It was fulfilling but if you have a big appetite maybe not. The dessert was good as well. I ordered both the Flatiron Room Sphere and Sticky Toffee Pudding. They made a spectacle of the event that didn't live up to the hype. The desserts were good, I could take it or leave it. Personally I preferred the sphere over the sticky toffee. The former has more flavors and was moist. The latter was drier and didn't have a taste that stood out to me. As a final note, service was great. We were seated right away and had complimentary bag check. Not only that, since it was an anniversary we also had complimentary champagne! Staff were attentive and the food didn't take too long to come out. Not that I would've minded anyway. Overall, I'm most likely coming back here someday. Might be my new favorite date night location.

This was a great place! I did not have any food because I ate so much pizza earlier, I physically couldn't, but everyone around me seemed to be enjoying the food. My friends and I had a few rounds of cocktails and we were all pleased with how they tasted. I had the Smoking Old Fashioned which was made with scotch rather than whiskey or rye which was very interesting and It was exceptional. Next, I ordered something off menu, a New York sour which was also magnificent. I was very pleased with my drinks and the service at the table was also good. I say right near the stage with a reservation made in advance. I can't remember what my friends ordered but they were pleased with their choices as well. I would surely return, but maybe on a weekend where they may have actual jazz playing. Regardless, such a great spot with great drinks, a definite must try.

If you're looking to experience live jazz in NYC over dinner - Flatiron is a fantastic pick. Very talented bands, cozy setting, and awesome food. Easy to book as well. It honestly exceeded my expectations - from music to food. Definitely going back next time I'm in New York!

I went for a birthday dinner and it was so beautiful. The live music was so nice and not too loud so I could hear my friend. Our waiter was very attentive and kind. The food was great which I'm usually skeptical about at nicer places but it was actually great. It's a perfect spot to celebrate with dinner or have an intimate date. They brought out a cute complimentary tiramisu to celebrate my best friend. I recommend getting a reservation or else you'll be at the bar.

Ask the Community - The Flatiron Room - NoMad

How easy/hard is it to walk in and get a seat if no reservation?

Hi Rohit, it depends on the day, we always recommend a reservation to be on the safe side.

Is this in the same location of the 2018 Flatiron Lounge?

No, The Flatiron Room has been at this location since 2012. The Flatiron Room is not associated with The Flatiron Lounge.

    What is the corkage?

Hi John, the corkage fee for wine is $40. Unfortunately, bottles of spirits are not allowed.

    How do I make reservations?

Open table is one call. Calling is another way

Is jazz music played all night?

Yes but be sure to ask for a seat at the round tables in the front. We were seated off to the side, could barely see the performance and hear it because people standing by the bar were loud.

    Is there happy hour?

No this is a classy upscale establishment. No happy hour here sorry.

Where do I go to play my guitar? Rock and roll?

If I wanted to stop in here for a few drinks on a Saturday around 5pm, would there be live music?

Usually, the Flatiron Room has live music nearly always (unless the band is taking a break). I'd recommend making a reservation though.

Can people under 21 enter the club to watch live jazz performances?

Absolutely, they're unable to sit by the bar but they're more than welcome at a table.

Can I. Ring in a small cake for a birthday dinner?

I'm sure if you spoke to management they would totally accommodate they were incredibly helpful when I was there but ask ahead.

Can you host a large group, say 20?

I wouldn't recommend it. Table for the music are small and there are some larger booths on the side but no where near 20 ppl big. It's a small intimate style venue.

I'm on my own on business, can you get a seat at the bar and eat?

    Yes of course.

    Can minors perform?

I do not believe so, it's definitely not an environment for children/ minors. They serve alcohol there in fact the walls are lined with bottles of scotch.

Is there live Jazz on Tuesday nights?

Yes there is. You can see on their calendar (https://www.theflatironroom.com/calendar/) that, unless there is a private event, they have live music.

This place looks really cool. Since it's not good for dancing, I'd like to do dinner+music here and then have a nearby option for dancing afterwards. Any suggestions on an upscale lounge nearby that's good for dancing afterwards?

Dancing is no longer illegal in NYC as mentioned by the other post. Not it it was ever really strictly enforced.

The ambiance feels straight of the golden age, which is an aesthetic I'm certainly a sucker for. Even their robust cocktail menu fits the bill and is one of the prettiest menus I've ever had the joy of perusing. Staff was able to sit us a little bit ahead of our reservation which was also much appreciated. Wait staff was also very helpful and attentive, I don't think I've ever had my water glass so topped off! Starting off with cocktails, this place is a gin bar through and through and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one of their many options. I went with the 10,000 words, which you simply just give a spirit of your choice (I picked gin of course) and whether you antes) wanted your drink shaken or stirred and the bartender does the rest, so a bit of a surprise! I wound up with their version of The Last Word which was delightfully citrusy but I was hoping I'd wind up with something a little more adventurous app things considered. My girlfriend got the blackberry G&T, which was not only very pleasing to look at but delicious to boot. For food, we started with splitting some zucchini blossoms and beef cheek bao buns (both come in portions of 3). Both were tasty, but I love a good bao bun and these were so light and pillowy, I could have just went for an order of those for my main course. For the entree I went for the roasted half chicken, perhaps the most unassuming choice on the menu but this was maybe the best roast chicken I've ever had. Prepared perfectly, cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and the kicker of it all was the stunning gravy that I was tempted to lick my plate for. Chicken is very easy to screw up, and they nailed it on all fronts here. My girlfriend went for the Valerie Signature burger with white cheddar and this thing did not mess around! A very rich patty, cooked to her temperature of choice served alongside some garlic truffle fries that made an American classic feel just a little more elevated. Our experience was delightful and I'd love to comeback here again, especially to check out more of the cocktail menu and soak in more of that golden age aura the place gives.

I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. From the outside it didn't look like much but after passing through the two sets of glass doors... It's packed. And lively. And (really) loud. And it was only a Tuesday night?! (How are all of these people living so high on the hog, without a care in the world?!) We were escorted off to a little tucked-away enclave near the back, but the restaurant was just too boisterous and we had to shout just to talk to people at the other end of the table. We got our menus and there was a bit of 'sticker shock' on my part, I can't lie. "We're in NYC, what did you expect?" - the Mrs. whispered when she saw my eyes go wide. But $38 for chicken parm? (Which is what I went with after seeing it had its own little "parm-fection" hype on the menu.) And $36 for the Branzino (which consisted of one fillet on a small bed of wilted spinach)? Our table dabbled all over the place and for the most part everyone really enjoyed their meals. The food they're knocking out is legit, for sure. But the bill came out to over $60 a person (including the tip, but we didn't have apps or dessert and half of us just had water), which hurts when you're a cheap-o like myself. Our waitress was awesome (and she didn't even seem fazed when I tried to rattle her that we were going to split the check onto nine different credit cards... but we only used one). And Bryant Park (right across the street) was the perfect nightcap on a lovely spring evening.
