You can sit where you'd like as long as there's free space, service is prompt and friendly, and the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time piping hot. Stumbled on this gem recently while wandering through Maine and was not disappointed! Wasn't sure if I wanted breakfast of lunch at 11am on a Sunday morning. After reading the menu I chose the veggie omelet with home fries and toast. It was delicious! Everything was fresh, hot and tasty. We didn't have to wait even though it was quite busy. What a top notch restaurant. One of the very best breakfasts in the area. Their corned beef hash is really hearty AND it's homemade!! The SOS is a very worthy runner up to the hash as well. My husband had one of their omelets and said it was one of the best he's had other than the ones I make him. (No doubt he was just being sweet, because I tried it and it beat any omelet I've ever made lol). Really looking forward to having lunch here soon. The restaurant is located in a very small rural town, nevertheless every table was occupied when we arrived. We had a considerable wait to get a table but since it's one of few options, we completely understood. Once seated, we were waited on promptly. I am so glad Yelpers recommended this adorable little diner since I am never in Skowhegan. The parking lot is small but we saw people park at the lot across the street so we did the same. Portions are plentiful, coffee is good, prices are cheap, our waitress Janine is a sweetheart but the corned beef hash is insane. Huge chunks of corned beef, eggs, perfectly cooked home fries and toast-I think the small was $8. What a bargain because it is worth way more than that. I will definitely be back! read more

This is a nice place, the staff is nice and welcoming. But, if you want to come in the morning you should be prepared for a six to twenty minute wait. The food is good but for a single bagel it takes fifteen minutes. I don't suggest bringing your large family or large group of people to this place if you all want to get seated together. Just passing through for my mom's birthday on our antique outing. We stopped here and we're so happy we did. The prices were inexpensive but the quality was high. The decor was tasteful and the bathroom clean. Our waitress was delightful and prompt. I got the cheesy scrambled eggs and my mom had the egg and corned beef hash. My wife and I waited for 30 mins for a table, which in itself isn't too bad, but the problem occurred when we sat down to order. After ordering we were ignored for 45 minutes and my wife and I quickly realized there was an issue because other guest, who came in after us, were getting their food before us. After 10 minutes of this, My wife asked the waitress to check on our food and she notified us that she never put it in. I don't complain about much but this is just really bad service. read more

Alice's is a busy place and though you occasionally have to wait a minute or two for seating, the service and value is worth it. If you're looking for a Mom and Pop style diner, this is as good as it gets for Skowhegan and I mean that in the best way. 5 star as local fare goes. We did not have TRUE 5 star restaurants here locally. They serve local menu. Sometimes understaffed and a bit slow, but most agree worth the wait. They are known as a breakfast restaurant and most days very busy. If your in a huge rush then I wouldn't risk it, however there isn't another option in town for a real homemade breakfast, that I'm aware of. read more

Crispy bacon adorned the fresh tomato and lettuce on the BLT, the onion rings were delicate and battered perfectly, and the garden salad had romaine lettuce, rather than the typical iceberg. Additionally, the Monte Cristo had the sweet/savory combo you look for, and the cheeseburger was piping hot and perfectly seasoned. Lastly, our server was delightful, and efficient.
