Club sandwich with a side of fries.
    Craig M.

I heard many good things from residents of Livermore, Livermore Falls and Jay. I decided to try Lafleur's the day the whole hostage situation occurred in Livermore Falls and I was asked to leave my home till it was resolved. Before I review their menu and food quality I do have to give big praise to their staff. The waitresses are extremely friendly and a few of them have been working their for one or more decades. If you prefer staff over food, definitely stop here. I don't know if it is because I went at lunch time, but I was not impressed with the food. They don't run your typical local restaurant style menu with multiple selections. They change the menu multiple times and only offer a select number of options between appetizers, entrees and desserts. The decor has a country home town feel to it and they have a wood stove that makes for some nice heat in the winter time. I had the BLT sandwich with a side of fries. The fries you could tell were the frozen kind tossed in the fryer, but cooked to a nice golden crisp. I like a nice crunch on my fries with a soft interior. The BLT had all the flavors of a good sandwich, but I was very underwhelmed with the amount of the ingredients used. I had maybe 1.5 full slices of small pieces of bacon, one large folded over piece of lettuce and a couple tomatoes that were small in size. If you are going to make a BLT, give me more bacon and tomatoes to make it feel like a BLT and not a sandwich I could go make at home. I want a restaurant to put the effort into their food that is beyond the effort I would put into a home cooked meal, otherwise I will go buy the ingredients myself and make it at home. The coleslaw that came with it tasted store bought. At least the cabbage seemed like it was from a bag and then they poured a bottled sauced onto it. Had little flavor and required salt and pepper to bring the flavors out. Again, it may have been the chef that day or maybe its because most go for the dinner menu, but I was not impressed with the quantity or quality of the food offered this day especially for the price they ask for. If you are going use a custom menu and keep to a certain number of options, you best use the freshest of ingredients and the higher quality ones that provide flavor and the uniqueness to the menu. I'll give this place one more shot with the Dinner menu, but first impression, I was not impressed.

I've lived in Franklin county my entire life, and been visiting Lafleur's since I was a child. I could recall a million terrible experiences while dining here, including the one that has finally topped the cake for me. *I'll start with my experience this past summer of 2021. There are 4 of us at a table, and two other tables in the restaurant. The menu is still COVID small, mostly seafood. One in our party was pregnant, so it's either steak or chicken tenders with a side. We all decided we wanted a side of pasta salad, in which the waitress legitimately told us to "steer clear of the pasta salad" before we even mentioned we were considering it..... why would you tell your customers you have rancid food, or better yet, still be serving it if you wouldn't eat it. While we are deciding where else to go, the one woman in there for staff, is on the phone calling someone for help as more cars are pulling in. Absolute mess. We left for Chuck Wagon. *My most recent experience this past Monday: We make a reservation for 6 ahead of time, as this is one of the 3 restaurants within 30 miles open on a Monday. My friend and I show up as the last two in the party. Everyone else has their drinks. A host comes over to ask us for drinks. I ask if they have a drink menu, and without even getting and answer the host goes "I will absolutely need to see your ID". Okay, no problem. As I'm getting my wallet the host again goes "I'd love to know how old you actually are". I go "23 and a bartender", to which she FOR REAL REPLIES "I don't care what you do". Real classy, and really makes me want to tip you . SO, she's checking my ID and my friend's ID, and is legitimately asking me why mine looks different than hers (mine is brand new, not intended for federal purposes). As a bartender I know why my ID looks different, why is this woman clueless and not up to date on checking identification. After being harassed, we get our drinks, and continue to enjoy the inconsistent, condescending evening. *Last but not least, the best for last. I'll let the photo evidence show you how yummy my soup to go was:

I had the Otis Burger, and let me just say... wow. Two perfectly smashed patties stacked with grilled pastrami, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard--it was a flavor bomb in the best possible way. Every bite hit with that perfect balance of savory, salty, tangy, and grilled goodness. My wife went with the chorizo enchiladas, and she couldn't stop raving about them. Authentic flavor with just the right kick, beautifully prepared and plated. The change from the previous ownership is night and day. The food quality is top-tier, and the service is nothing short of legendary. Even though the staff is mostly young and relatively new to the industry, you can tell they care. They hustle, they smile, and they're clearly learning fast. Also worth mentioning--Stevie J's social media game is strong! They're active, engaging, and do a great job getting the word out about new menu items and specials. This is exactly what Livermore Falls needed. Highly recommend checking them out--you'll leave full and impressed.

T he food is great, the service is great and they have a great selection of beers and specialty drinks. However, my recent visit to Buck It just as they opened for the lunch hour during the week was less than satisfying. The waitress, who appeared to be young, was more concerned with talking with the one customer at the bar than to keep an eye on our table. She was quick to take our drink order, but after she dropped them off, we didn't see her for a good 5+ minutes when we placed our food order. After the food was delivered, we never saw the girl until she brought us our check. The majority of the time you could hear her out back talking to the kitchen staff and then she would return to the bar and chat with the one person. At no point did she ever check on us to see how the meal was. Now to the food. My wife had the steak tips with fries and I had the bourbon chicken tips. The chicken was cooked well and had a BBQ sauce it was tossed in. Rice was very bland, but with some salt, pepper and BBQ sauce it was alive again. My wife's tips were cooked very well, but seriously under seasoned. A little salt can go a long way on steak. I was going to sample a smoked whiskey drink they had, but since the bartender was no where to be found, I settled on my soda. It's a good thing we didn't run out of drink, because we would have needed glow wands and flags to get the attention of the bartender. It's too bad because I had high praise for Buck It and the service it what drives my review from a 5-start to a 2-star. Customer service is what makes this a great place, but the younger generation don't understand the first thing about interaction and customer service unless it's through a phone or social media app. It's too bad. Keep the seasoned employees on during lunch if you want to interact with the staff.

The burgers were hand-made, not pre-pressed patties. Mushroom Swiss and cheeseburger both tasted great. There's a lot of cheese, and a decent amount of meat. Fries were crispy - just the way I like them. Chicken tenders came with several large tenders: good portion. Hand breaded. Real chicken. Our waitress was nice. There's free popcorn. While I can't verify this, my grandson said "it was the cleanest bathroom of any restaurant." He was impressed. Lol. Seriously.

From musty dive hotel bar, and not one of the fun ones (well there was this one older lady that would serve you the strongest drink of your life whether you told her you were driving or not but other than that), to fine dining. Kinda like your grandmother's basement after a flood from 15 years ago that no one probably cleaned up. Yeah you know the smell. The short ribs were gorgeous, the reduction was perfect and the wild mushroom au gratin was heavenly. NY strip was perfectly tender, seasoned well and cooked to perfection. I'm never surprised anymore when a restaurant forgets what "medium" actually is. Sadly, I'm at the point where I'm surprised when they get it right. Pleasantly, but still surprised. This place, definitely gets my vote when I go to Freeport to spoil myself. If you haven't gone here yet, you're doing it wrong.

It took a few minutes to be seated, since no one was manning the reception station. Apparently that's waitstaff's job - when they're not doing 100 other things. This is an oversight on the restaurant's part and something I pointed out to the manager. Once we were seated though, our experience blossomed into something really wonderful. Neither my mother nor I ordered appetizers.... Since we figured that lunch would be enough (it was). They don't serve bread or crackers or anything as a gratuity - which is probably a cost-saving as well as time-saving measure. It also forces you into buying one of their "small plates" (appetizers), which looked wonderful but were also quite pricey. We also didn't order alcohol- which probably saved us between $30 and $50, since their cocktails were $15 and upwards. Same is true with their wines. Appealing but pricey. I ordered the beef short rib entree ($38) (see attached photo) with a small Caesar salad and their wild mushroom ragout. The beef was some of the best I've ever had. It was fork-tender, juicy, and flavorful in ways that are hard to describe. As for the wild mushroom ragout.... It was cheesy and delicious, but lacked any visible mushroom. I told our waitress so and I hope she passed it on to the chef. My mother ordered their Grilled salmon, served on a bed of cranberry quinoa and topped with an avocado sauce that was amazing (see photo). ($41). The food was so good that there was no hope of taking any home. We wiped out everything! (See photo) We hard coffee with our meal and with taxes and tip, the bill came to $118. Well worth it for such a fabulous meal. We'll go back, but with my father and eldest daughter in tow next time!!
