My Wife and I went here for dinner and a show for our 45th wedding anniversary. The entire building needed work, it was sad to see, dirty windows with bugs in them and if you had a screen in your window it was filled with cobwebs and dead bugs, kinda killed any ambiance of looking out over the lake. You could see that there was a lot of water damage to ceilings and walls that was only partially finished. The entrace / portico to the restaurant, especially the ceiling, was loaded with bug nests and mold. It needed a good pressure washing and fresh paint. The drink menu was fabulous, soo many combinations. The appetizers selection was very nice, we ordered the fried goat cheese with fig jam, it was very tasy. My Wife ordered the pork tenderloin, that was marinated in soy and ginger with sauteed fiddleheads and rice. This was a complete disaster, the pork medalions were so over cooked, as if they were pre cooked and warmed up. If these were cooked to order whomever cooked them should be ashamed. My Wife and I could these often and are always tender, juicy with a hint of pink. These had nothing in common to what we cook at home, not tender and not juicy, the soy ginger was not a marinade but more of a reduction and spooned over the medalions, the salt was so concentrated my Wife ate 2 and could not eat any more. The rice, just plain steamed rice, the fiddleheads were cooked well but had zero flavor, a pitty as they are a blank canvas. I ordered the seafood scampi, I was really looking forward to this as I don't have pasta very often and have not had lobster in a couple of years. The pasta was home made pappardelle, it was more than al dente and was stuck together in clumps. The sauce had little flavor, the scallops were so so, the shrimp were over cooked as was the lobster, we ordered a fruit pie for dessert at intermission, it was mostly crust and, oh the whipped topping, guess what that was........ cool whip . We spent over $160.00. It was a a one and done for us unfortunately. We really wanted it to be better than it was. It could be a really nice venue but needs a lot of work and a seasoned chef who cares about what they do and can direct a young untrained staff. read more

Gorgeous location, atmosphere/ambiance. Great spot if you wanna get dressed up & feel like you're stepping back in time. The duck wanton tacos were so bright, fresh & uniquely delicious! The roasted Brussel sprouts were yummy as well. The lamb chops were extra gamey tasting, but the risotto was to die for! Truffle tortellini were tasty but dry - the dish really needed at least a light cream sauce or even just a generous drizzle of EVOO... the apps & desserts took the spot light. We ordered desserts from the top secret Speakeasy Menu - grilled peaches w/a divine vanilla marscapone cream and then a decadently delicious turtle lava cake. Service was friendly. read more

Went here for dinner before our play. The food was Meh... my husband got scallops they were bland and not cooked well at all. I had steak which was good but I've def had better. Everything was bland, except the cheese dip that was awesome. We will not eat here again before a show, it's a shame that place does have potential. The chef does not seem to have passion for food, I mean the rice was literally steamed white rice with no seasoning blah! Never again... read more

What a great experience! I couldn't be more happy with every aspect of the evening. The setting was fantastic, with a great view. Everything from the appetizers - stuffed day lilies, roasted brussel sprouts - to the main dishes - we had grilled swordfish and baked haddock - to the drinks - it was awesome. The dishes were well thought out, fantastic flavors, they were hot and with the right portions. We loved everything about the meal and the setting. Couldn't recommend it more highly. read more

Well, one more summer item checked off the list. Sunday brunch at Lakewood Inn. This place is like an extension of my cottage here at Weserrunsett Lake. We need only walk 1.5 minutes and we are here. Kinda convenient. A little background, we spend a month every summer here in Madison, Maine, for the past 25 years. As I said, a short walk from the Inn. So I am familiar with Lakewood like no other restaurant I know. I come for drinks. Dinner. And Sunday brunch. So, when I speak of The Lakewood Inn, I speak from experience. Today, the wife and I headed down around 10am. No reservation. We invited our neighbors, via text, on the way. They joined us as well after we got there. I also texted my nephew and in laws, in Skowhegan (20 minutes away) to join us. They showed up without notice. I should mention throughout this double table change, the staff was cheerful and helpful and no problems. We had already ordered when the three extras showed up and our waiter delayed meals and took care to keep us coffeed up and never stressed. It is always friendly and comfortable here. I know, you say, "what about the food?!." Well it's great. The menu is crazy extensive. 40 breakfast meals? Sure. The drink menu, cocktails, is eight pages long. I did not drink. Though when I do, they are great. Brunch does have bottomless Mimosas. We all ordered different things. I had the Traditional English Breakfast. A fave. Two meats, eggs, beans, bubble & squeak. Good stuff. I do recommend it. Bagels and lox, burger, Reuben (love it), to name a few at our table. Over the years I have eaten it all. Not lox. Service is always attentive and I seldom want for anything. Today was no acception. The restaurant has filled up behind us and we have been sitting here for an extra 30 mins post meal. They never seem to mind and never try hard to turn the table. Thank you. To say I will be back is an understatement. Of course I will. Every summer. Only question is is how many times next y Update 2019. Wow, what a difference. I am here in Maine for my annual visit. Today is Sunday and I just had brunch at Lakewood. We also had brunch last Sunday. Well, both were reasonably awful. First visit, last Sunday. Not too busy. So why was the service abysmal? Horribly bad waiter, busboy inept. Though the food was good (and cold) when we finally got it, the bad service ruined the occasion. I passed this off to a new waiter, she was, and did not give it much thought. Also, tipped about $1, mean but I want her to perhaps understand. Today. The place is packed. We were given the opportunity to wait 45 mins for a six top or get two tables next to each other right away. We opted to sit down now. 15 minutes for coffee. Took our order. 65 minutes for breakfast. I don't blame the waiter for the wait. But, that idiot screwed up two of six meals, mine included. I know I can send it back but after such a long wait I picked out the things I did not want and ate the rest. Also, the food obviously sat for quite awhile. That is a problem with the waiter. If I had been paying, the tip would not be generous. I am very disappointed in Lakewood this year. read more

I visited your restaurant about an month ago. I was raised in Maine & heard good things about it. Maybe yrs. ago but not now. Very poor service along with the food. Not cheap either for my Mainer pocket book, but as I said it was something special I thought I would enjoy. Ordered food after making reservations, had to still wait. The server gave us very poor service. Waited too long for the food, only to get minimum food, nothing special that I could of gotten at another restaurant for a much cheaper rate. Some of the vegtables were literally burned black. The sauce on the fish was spooned have way on a corner of the fish. So the fish was very dry. Could not get anyone to even bring over water when asked for. The rolls first which we had to ask for , came & were hard as a rock. Had to ask for & waited about 30 min. for more only to find out they were sold out. Sorry to say the days of Vincent Price going there along with the theater are long gone & new owners aren't doing much to help, Never will go there again. Worst service ever, food is ok. Would not recommend before a show. Nice location - but the seasonal service is more than I can bear.

I was vacationing in Maine with my family, which was a large group (9 people) with some younger teens in the group as well, and we had the most fantastic time here in every way. The setting, the service, and the food were all 5 star. Our server was Tina and she was helpful and friendly and got all of our orders perfectly and even recommended great items for the kids. The bartender, Katie Quinn, was extremely passionate and informative, and made us some of the best cocktails I've ever had. The Pan Seared Scallops were incredible, and the coffee crusted sirloin steak was unique and delicious. I would most definitely recommend this place to anyone even remotely close to this area. read more
