One of the proprietors at our Harvest Host recommended this place -- SO glad he did! First of all....The BANKery?? How cute is this?!? It's in an old bank building on a darling street that you need to stroll down. Once inside, we were mesmerized by the delectable treats in the cases and by the bakers toiling away in front of the open vault doors. We ordered a cinnamon roll (possibly the BEST we have ever had!) and an apple cream cheese danish (FILLED with creamy cheese and apple slices!). We also got a loaf of olive sourdough bread that we had with dinner. So good. Truly wish we had bought more!! The black coffee was smooth and the Mocha Latte was like drinking melted chocolate (perhaps a bit too much for me). Absolutely recommend a stop here even if it's out of your way. read more

I walked in expecting a simple treat and walked out with a full heart, a full stomach, and an unforgettable experience. First off, Mackenzie and Grace deserve a standing ovation. Their kindness, attention to detail, and warm hospitality made me feel like family. They handled a full case of French cream horns (yes--12 cream horns with raspberry filling) like total pros, all while smiling and keeping the vibe welcoming and cheerful. I also grabbed a sausage, egg & cheddar croissant, a chocolate croissant, and a strawberry & cream cheese croissant--and every single bite was next-level bakery bliss. Flaky, rich, and perfectly balanced. You can tell the bakers care. Speaking of bakers, I had the pleasure of chatting with Mike, who not only shared his love for baking but gave me a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the building's history and attached theater, which adds a whole layer of cool charm to this already awesome place. I even got to meet Matt, the owner, who was incredibly kind and clearly passionate about his team and community. And yes--this bakery is actually inside a beautiful old bank! Vaults, high ceilings, historic charm--it's like walking into a pastry-filled time capsule. Final verdict: 5 stars all day. This is more than a bakery--it's an experience. This food was absolutely amazing and so happy we decided to drive back in town the day it was open since we missed it on the weekend. The people working in the bakery were very nice and helpful with recommendations. They have so much yummy stuff for such a small city. They also have fresh baked bread loaves which looked amazing but we did not get due to the fact that we were leaving town that day. We ordered the following: raspberry French cream horn, Paris brest, individual cheesecake, chocolate whoopie pie with peanut butter flavor filling, and a mousse dome. Ok, I do know that that is a lot of sugar but it had to be done. It was amazing and super tasty. This location is "out of the way" from where any of my family and friends live, however, if you are in the area or have free time and a craving for amazing baked goods...please stop and try some of their delicious offerings. We strolled in late afternoon and were greeted with a smile and warm welcome. You never know how staff will be when it's the end of a very long day for them, however, they were upbeat, positive and engaging. Immediately put us at ease as we browsed. It's not a large store, meaning if there are more than 10 people in the space, it can feel very crowded, especially if you are like me and require at least a foot of personal space. While people started to pack in...you'll understand why a little later in this review... I didn't even notice how close they were to me, because I was distracted by all of the delicious offerings, sweet or savory baked goods, from muffins to breads, to scones, croissants and cookies and cupcakes...and sooooo much more. They also had a refrigerator and a freezer with savory meals and side dishes...and it wasn't even near a holiday. This place has all of your meals and snacks ready to purchase. We realized there was a rush, because at a certain point in the day, they mark breakfast items 50% off. Of course, I needed to try all of the scones, so I was able to secure one of each flavor they had left. They were so delcious. I preferred the fruit variety. We also purchased a cookie - YUM! They are special, so chewy and delicious. We also purchased a little mini cake...looks like they decorated a cupcake like a mini wedding cake. What I will say, it tasted like wedding cake!!!! If you ever have the craving for a wedding cake, try them. They accept credit cards, so buy everything you think you want, especially if you don't live in the area. The only downside, is parking in the area can be a little tricky if you aren't from the area. I definitely recommend this business and I can't wait to go back! read more

The Bankery is located in downtown Skowhegan , Maine but once you step through the door you feel transported like your in a bakery in the North End of Boston! The bakery itself is located inside an old bank so it gives it a very unique charm and feel. There is another side to the Bankery called the Fleuriste. I've not done any business there but as the name suggests they do flowers , have a gift area, wedding services and formalwear rentals. Honestly if you've never tried this place out put it on your to do list! It's a must. I've enjoyed trying everything there and have never been anything but thrilled! They have all kinds of desserts, breakfast pastries, breads, coffee , cookies and prepared meals. All good! My favorites are there sandwich cookies... there unbelievable! They have many types , I love the ginger snap and my husband the M&M. The flavor of filling they use is perfect and they give a perfect ratio of cookie to filling! There amazing! The breakfast pastries are so fresh and taste fabulous! If it's not on your morning routine yet this place is the perfect stop for coffee and breakfast! They have all the coffee options from your standard cup to a latte, all done great! They have a variety of prepared meals. Mac and cheese, veggie and cheese lasagna, different types of pot pies and I'm sure a few others I'm missing. I've only tried the veggie lasagna so far but it was excellent! $27.50 for a large and I'd say it feeds at least six people. Flavor was great and it was easy to cook! Very pleased. Ok so this is a bit bizarre - When I'm working in the community, which isn't often, I enjoy this bakery - bake goods have always been pretty good. So, my colleagues, knowing I buy there gifted me gift cards sold by the Bankery over the last two years, The gifts are sweet and thoughtful, but the business refuses to take them over three attempts. I've been there on three occasions over 45 days, called and today, spoken to Matt the owner today - still, no dice. I'm not starving or poor, Its just odd that money was taken by the business with nothing in return and now they won't honor the contract they made or attempt to remedy the issue in any respect. I understand technical issues with electronics occur, but we should all try to cut through and honor the value that's known when the customer needs it - just deal with the electronic delay yourself instead of refusing to honor gifts given by those who trusted you. I won't likely return and Ill teach others. read more

If you're lucky to get one (they sell out nearly as soon as they come out of the oven), try a Morning Roll or even a Paris Brest (one of my other personal favorites)! Their locally sourced coffee hits the spot every time and comes with a variety of flavors and add options like Dairy free milk. Little known treasure in Skowhegan. Friends who own a business across the street recommended we try it while visiting from out of state. Wow! Only wish we hadn't waited until the last day. The kitchen is partially open to see behind the counters with an amazing old bank vault. The selection of pastries and breakfast croissants will please every palate and then some. Had read the scones were wonderful and I think they were under rated as they are out of this world. Moist and fresh with wonderful blueberry, raspberry and white chocolate. Definitely a dieters dream oops meant nightmare! Gotta live a little right? The beautiful displays when you enter tease your senses almost immediately and the smell of the baking pulls you in even more. Took me about 7-10 minutes to decide and although I wanted one of everything I chose the scones to take to someone's house and a bacon and cheese croissant for me. I will never look at a chain fast good croissants the same way ever again. They pale in comparison to this and the price is pretty close. This was a wonderful place to come with my daughter and 2 granddaughters. The cases full of savory and sweet baked goods made it difficult in choosing what to buy. Beautiful works of art, but I have to agree with Paul, the flavor isn't there. Generous servings. Huge chocolate chip cookies, however, the taste is bland. The only flavor was in the chips. Not buttery,melt in your mouth. Cannoli had little flavor. Macaroons are huge and full of coconut but still not rich in flavor. Natural (wild) blueberry scone was great. Extra treat: Large 10 - 11 oz cup of braised beef stew + tasty roll ($4.50) made a hearty lunch and there was a plethora of dessert choices. Very limited seating (~ 6 people total) and no rest rooms ... so it's really not a restaurant. Weak coffee. read more
