A friend of mine had recommended this restaurant in the past. I wanted to check it out for dinner since I was in the city. Well, I'm a chronic ceviche lover and had to ordered it. The duo Marino comes with ceviche and a choice of arroz de mariscos or fish fritters. I ordered the fish fritters which came w several sauces on the side to dip in and a couple of those were just great. There's an also a coffee shop as part of the restaurant that offers so many different options for dessert. My server was very friendly and attentive. The place is clean and somewhat spacious. Parking is limited but able to find a spot after 5pm. They also have a dance floor, and there was a dance instructor teaching children a marinera (Peruvian dance). read more

I had the best time here while meeting with someone for work. It was a little hard to find because the sign is pretty small out front. But I looked a little deeper on my gps to find them and was able to figure it out. I'm glad I did because this is truly a hidden gem. There are a few other businesses located in the same space too. There's a bakery, restaurant and a dance area. A few other businesses as well. It was a lively environment with folks in and out. I genuinely loved everything I tried here! I had the ceviche clasico and the arroz chaufa de pollo and a few other things. Each dish was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. I immediately wanted to come back with friends so they could experience it too. If you're looking for something that will surprise you in the best ways, give this spot a try. 10/10 to go spot for me!! I'm Peruvian and this is the best spot i have tried in Charlotte in the last 4 years. I got it to go. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the green spaghetti was seasoned just like my abuela. The papa came with about six pieces and the sauce was so yummy. It is a cute little spot off south blvd. The tables were all full with customers. The service was quick and easy (they do mostly speak Spanish as an FYI ) I of course, had to get it in Inca Cola as well. 3 of us came for lunch. I got the lunch special for the day: herb drink, chicken soup, and pork with northern beans and rice ($12). They give you huicaina sauce (not spicy enough) and rococo sauce (very good). We got a papa huicaina for an appetizer and it was ok. I have Peruvian friends and have eaten Peruvian food at their home; however, none of the restaurants I've been to have the same flavor for papa huicaina - all are boring in comparison with no heat. The soup broth had decent flavor but the lumps of chicken in it did not have seasoning. It was the same type of soup you would make for chicken broth and then just leave the chicken in. The piece of pork was very large and had decent flavor. I loved the pickled onions on top. The beans and rice mixed well with it and were cooked properly. One friend got the chicken chaufa ($16) and the other got shrimp seafood chaufa. I sampled the chicken and it was delicious! The chicken had very good seasoning and I really liked this dish. One lady got the chicha morada and enjoyed it. The interior has several booths. Our waitress was very pleasant and expressed hope we would return. They use Clover and you have to make sure they use it properly. If you pay cash, you should not have to pay the 4% "Convenience Fee". However, it charges it anyway and you have to insist they take it off if you pay with cash because the business tries to keep it. They also automatically charged a 15% tip to the bill, even though there were only 3 of us and we each paid separately. The bakery counter tried to do the exact same thing adding a "convenience fee" even if you use cash. Seriously, this place needs to be audited by the IRS. I heard they own the coffee shop called Sumaq next door, and I know I had this same problem there. The employees just think the "Convenience Fee" should be automatically applied to the transaction and don't know how to handle getting it off without a manager. This is UNACCEPTABLE. How many people are they stealing from that are paying CASH ? Because they were certainly going to keep the extra 4% on both transactions at the restaurant and bakery until I stopped them. Then they said they don't have coins and only do business in dollar bills. They tried to short my friend 70 cents but I think the waitress overheard us complaining about it, so they gave her $1. This whole practice is SHADY !!! On the way out, we stopped at the bakery counter. I bought mini alfajores cookies, chocolate flan ($6) and a piece of Peruvian cake ($6). The cookies and flan were fabulous ! My friend got the pudding asada ($6) and it was unique. It was a cross between bread pudding and flan. It had a slightly grilled taste to it and raisins. If you come here, realize you will automatically be charged a 15% tip and 4% convenience fee. If you pay in cash, you will have to insist on getting the credit card fee taken off because they will not do so voluntarily. read more

Alicia's Kitchen and Bakery is a spacious restaurant with friendly staff and good flavors -- our meals actually tasted great. However, the experience was disappointing overall. My plate (the special -- beef in a sauce with mashed potatoes and rice) came out cold, and I had to ask for it to be reheated. Then my wife's chicken lomo saltado turned out to be undercooked -- raw in the middle -- after she had already eaten a few bites. When we mentioned it, the waiter was polite, but we had to ask for the manager and he took a long time to come over, and even after all that, he only offered 20% off the check. Considering what happened, that felt insufficient. Service was also quite slow from start to finish. The place has potential -- great space, some friendly people, and good flavors but they really need to focus on food safety, timeliness, and how they handle situations like this. read more

Food: 3/10... tried desayuno Lurin. Came with tamal, sweet potato and pork (butt or shoulder pork, not belly), too greasy. Tamal needs to improve although its consistency was better than Mexican's. Flavor not quite. Service: 3/10...waiting is too long, needs better staffing. 15% tip are mandatory and included in the bill (?). That doesn't sound legal. Ambiance: 5/10. Final assessment, 4/10. Absolutely the best restaurant meal I have had in ages. Peruvian food is perfect for all people. It has Asian influences, spice, flavor and freshness. I got the Duo of ceviche and fish fritters, just pieces of perfectly fried fish. I had planned to get ceviche only but figured why not go with the duo. The fritters were delicious and were a nice addition to my generous ceviche portion. Such a great value, $21 for generous, quality food. I went a little crazy at the bakery on the way out. Absolutely stunning case. I spotted bite size alfajores and had to get them, delicious. Flan, my favorite, delicious and a beef empana, delicious. I could eat here every day. Ceviche was better than Yunta. Parking is easy. Service was outstanding. It's the kind of place that makes you feel good about spending your hard earned money there. I travel to Charlotte often for work, and Alicia's Kitchen has become my go-to spot for lunch and dinner. The food is always amazing--today I had the ají de gallina recommended by Judith, and it brought back memories of my grandmother's cooking in Peru. Even when she's not my server, Judith always stops by to say hello, which makes the experience feel personal. Ivon's service was excellent, and you can tell the manager is making great improvements to the place. Authentic flavors, great service, and a warm atmosphere. Highly recommended! read more

I stumbled across this restaurant while attending the Peruvian festival (thanks for the ticket, Yelp). As the line at the festival wasn't moving, I looked and found the store front. I drove there, and found one of two available parking spaces (very popular spot). I started placing my order with a young lady, but she wasn't comfortable with English, so another young lady completed my order. The food took about 20-25 minutes to complete. Within that timeframe, the restaurant was packed and plenty of others waiting for seating. I say that to say, the restaurant seemed very popular with the locals. The customers seemed like they were enjoying the atmosphere and the experience. As a large group came in, I was asked to go wait outside of the main restaurant. My food was brought out to me, but the 2-litter drink was missing. I asked the young man, but he became busy with other customers, as such I waited about 10-15 minutes for the bottle of soda. I ordered the chicken meal which came with a whole chicken, fried rice, salad, french fries, and a 2-litter bottle of soda. My son ate the food and said the chicken was nicely seasoned (inside and outside). He also said, there was no pink in the center. He enjoyed the quarter breast and then asked for a leg. I tried it and the food was good. I had also ordered the beef with onion, tomatoes, and peppers, and it too was good. I don't frequent that area too often, but it's now on my list if and when I am in the area and want Peruvian chicken. read more

We met Alicia and she was so sweet - said she started this 10 months ago and also owns the coffee shop across the street, Sumaq. We went there a month and they have great empanadas. If you're looking for your favorite new "hole in the wall" spot, look no further. Settle into a booth or large table with a Chicha Morada and prepare for your taste buds to be dazzled. Start with Yuca Fries with cheesy dipping sauce. We had an assortment of things, the 3 mix plate, Lomo Al Jugo, and Pescado a lo Macho. Not completely disappointed but not satisfied. We have yet to find outstanding Peruvian food in Charlotte and we've been here 4-5 years! This restaurant is located inside a sketchy shopping center with a jewelry store, tax office and grocery store. The restaurant is in the same building located in the back. It is table service and today they only had ONE server waiting and bussing her own tables. She was excellent! Very polite and efficient, but she could have used more help. The Lomo Saltado had good flavor, however the KEY to good Lomo Saltado is QUALITY beef! Unfortunately you can tell they don't use good cuts of meats, because it was tough and chewy. For $21.00 they should be using Filet Mignon tips. My Aji de Gallina was delicious I have no complaints about that dish it was perfect! Other than being a bit too pricey. For being at the back of a grocery store their prices are a bit ridiculous. They also charge a tax on the food and a service fee as well. Overall I think I'll return, just not in any rush. read more

The food was excellent. It was my sister's and I first time trying Peruvian food. I got Lomo Saltado and although I was asked how I like my meat(I said medium) , it was overcooked and felt tough and chewy. Flavor was good tho. It came with rice and fries. My sister order Seco a la Norteña which was delicious! A braised rib with beans and rice. Our drinks were delicious as well. Service was good(other than our initial waitress leaving us). The ambiance was nice and we could tell that place was about business as they had a bakery, jewelry place, carnicería and other things. We decided to stop by the bakery for desserts. Got a maracuya(passion fruit)cheesecake(Amazing!) and I forgot the name of the other dessert but it was delicious as well. How does this not have any reviews yet? I was craving chaufa and was searching for a place that had it and this is what I found. Great little local restaurant. Definitely my vibe. Casual, chill place. Went in a Sunday and a number of families getting together and having a good time. Huge plates of food. It's a lot bigger than it looks like from the front. In addition to the restaurant, there is a bakery, little market, and I forget what else We got chaufa and tallarines a la huacaina. The chaufa was delicious. Very flavorful. The rice was well cooked and the grains were nicely separated. The chicken had a really good flavor and very well seasoned. The tallarines was also delicious. This was my first time having this dish. Very creamy sauce, a little reminiscent of fettuccine Alfredo to my unfamiliar palette. The beef was well cooked and tender and the veggies were cooked but maintained a bit of texture. The hot sauces on the side were also very good with the fried rice. I couldn't resist the bakery case though the cheesecake is in the fridge with my leftovers for later English is a little limited but they were very welcoming even though I'm pretty sure I was the only person there who did not speak Spanish. read more
