I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and it finally worked out so we could. And, I'm so glad we did! This is real El Salvadorian food! Everything had so much flavor, and was incredibly well priced! We went for weekday supper, so it wasn't very busy. I think they get a big lunch crowd, and there is a lot of pick up orders. I almost don't want to share a good review because I don't want them to be crowded or their prices to go up, but I can't help but spread the news so they don't close And, our ticket was around $50! First of all the Service was absolutely great - we were greeted and seated immediately and our group of 8 were served our drinks within 10 minutes.. Food came out a little later- it took us a while to navigate the menu. Caveat: Alicia's is NOT another Mexican restaurant (although it has some dishes that you'd consider Mexican.) It's more a Salvadoran/Honduran style eatery so the offerings are similar but different spices and cooking methods. Their absolute claim to fame is their pupusas- a very rich (drowning in a heavy cream sauce concoction that is best described as similar to a tamale. Very noisy and crowded because it IS a very popular place for Hispanic families craving a little bit of home. Prices are good. They didn't have any diet drinks the day I went, but a lot of soft drinks and juices popular south of the border. The place is rustic/basic- wooden tables and chairs. No actual decor except what was leftover from previous owners- maybe Chinese buffet? People wore all types of attire from Sunday best to shorts and flip flops. A gem! Received the recommendation from an acquaintance who is Honduran as the best Honduran/El Salvadoran food in the area. Full disclosure: this was my first time having this cuisine and I was not disappointed! Pupusas de maiz: mixed, zucchini, and beans were so good! I could've eaten all these as my meal but we shared it as an appetizer. You can't go wrong with carbs and cheese! Platillo de Hugo: the chicken was really good! Comes with white rice, grilled vegetables (squash, zucchini & carrots), avocado & cheese. The other entrees also looked tasty. Tajadas de pollo: plantains, pickled onions and chicken. I love plantains so ate most of these off my husbands plate! Don't walk in expecting a fancy restaurant. You seat yourself, majority of the employees speak Spanish (however do speak some English & most of the menu also has English translation). Oh and how could I forget the caramel flan? Limes in the water instead of lemons. Some sections of the menu have no English translation. The authenticity is looking promising. The salsa...I cannot speak to its Salvadoran authenticity, but it's nice and chunky and very mild (ask for a bottle of green hot sauce and add a few drops - that'll light you up!). Papusa choices include loroco - a Salvadoran flower. Can't get much more authentic than that. But, I wemt with chicharron. Very cheesy and pretty tasty. A bit of cabbage slaw and onions on the side makes a nice meal. Three stars - probably won't be a regular stop for me, but I'd come back to try the tamales. read more

The food is great and very authentic! The pupusas are fresh and the tacos are perfect.

Placed a carryout order through Waitr, consisting of a taco, steak baleada, tajadas con carne Molina, and fried corn tamales. When I got home and opened the bag, the first thing I noticed was a container of fried plantains. I thought, "Great, they gave me some free plantains." But as I took the remaining items out of the bag, I realized that the tamales were missing. They had subbed plantains and didn't tell me. The food itself was way too salty for my taste. I ate the taco, but the other stuff was so salty I couldn't finish it. When I ordered the steak baleada, it asked me how I wanted the steak cooked, and I chose medium rare. However, the baleada didn't contain steak at all, but rather a mushy beef concoction. Ironically, the best thing was the plantains. Overall, not good. read more

They are the warmest people. The food was delicious! I had the Sopa de mariscos with coconut milk--it was absolutely delicious! I did add more salt for my taste though. I tried the corn tamales for the first time--ABSOLUTELY Delicious!! I didn't think I'd like them because they are sweet rather than savory but it's a great balance and the texture was amazing. I have to agree with Arlene, my fellow yelper. The service has plenty of room to improve, however being that it is the only Salvadorian spot in the BR you have to give this family owned restaurant a try. They are known for their pupusas however most of the food is decent. I will add, prices are a bit more expensive then a traditional mom & pop Mexican/Latin restaurant but the food is good, I only wish they had some lunch specials. The decor nominal, they could use some help with interior design to show off the cultural aspect more. Alot of it was still left over from the last venue that tried to make it. A TV with music videos would help to add some life inside for patrons. It is never too busy & the restaurant has the consistent flow of folks from El Salvador. I would recommend trying different items that you would not maybe have as an option at a Mexican restaurant. read more

Summary: Worth a try, not exceptional. Went here for dinner with my fiance. We were the only people when we went in, but a few families came in after we were seated. We started with chips and salsa, which were OK but nothing amazing. The salsa was a bit watery for my tastes. For entrees, we ordered pollo con tejadas and mixed pupusas. I thought the pollo con tajadas was well done - the chicken was crispy and moist, the plantains were seasoned well, and the sauce was great. My one complain it was I would have preferred a bit more cabbage relative to the amount of plantains. The pupusa was alright - on par with the other restaurants around town. The restaurant was clean and the service was fine. The prices are on par with other restaurants. I'd try it again - I want to try their baleada. read more

Horrible service. We were only ones there and after 30 minutes and only getting our drinks we left. No wonder no one was there.

Love the fresh homemade food! Had the chicken plate which was a generous portion. Also the bean and cheese pupusas were delicious.

When the waitress took our order she leaned on our table and placed her hands on the table. She felt too comfortable and we had not even met her before. Unprofessional. Anywhoo, I ordered 2 pupusas she said the order only came in 3. I ordered the 3 which was way too many. Once I got my order I later asked for more curtido because i was given only enough for one pupusa. She said that she could not give me anymore unless I paid an additional charge for it. What ?!? No other restaurant charges for extra curtido. That is wrong. I may think twice before coming back because not only was I forced to buy more than I wanted but I was going to be charged for more curtido. Need to rethink your sales methods. read more
