Love Sazón! This is a great place that serves great food. It is worth the wait and the service is superb. I have enjoyed every meal so far and I visit frequently. I recommend the Cuban Sandwich, the Cuban empanadas, the yuca fries, the Vaca Frita and the grilled chicken. The black beans, plantains, and tostones are great as well. The quality and flavor is there, and I think most of the menu is worth a try. The mango juice/smoothie is good too! Hidden gem, keep this place in business by all means! read more

I really enjoy going to this place! I'd been hearing a lot of great things and finally go to try for myself. They serve amazing Caribbean cuisine. I got the grilled chicken breast meal with the congri rice and beans and fried plantains. 10/10 for sure and will be back. The service was great and our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable of food options and recommended the tres leches cake for dessert but it was out so will be back to try it. I'm honestly sad that it took me so long to go back. Ever since I had the loaded tostones, it's been on my mind. Tonight, we had the tostones again, but we also shared a Cuban empanada, Colombian empanada, a chicken arepa, and congri. The congri transported us back to our visits to. Latin America and the added bacon really kicked it up a notch. How have I never had arepas before??? It might be one of my new favorites. It was like a cross between a sandwich and a quesadilla, the breading was grilled like a corn pancake. The tostones were as delicious as I remembered with a delicious squeeze of lime on top. The Cuban empanadas are most similar to empanadas that I've tried before. The Colombian empanada was different but delicious. Instead of a flour pastry, it was made of corn (meal) and stuffed with meat and what tasted like potatoes. Both empanadas were served with a sauce but LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THIS SAUCE. If they sold the cilantro sauce in a bottle I would stock up. I even drizzled it on the rice to make sure not a drop was wasted. I was also sad to see that the restaurant was very empty; perhaps because it was a Tuesday night, but I wish there were more patrons so that this place surely stays in business. As a half Hispanic I took my friend who are both born and raised from Puerto Rico and Mexico and we all had nothing but good things to say. The food was delicious. It reminded me of my Cuban mother's cooking. The black beans were so good. The croquettes were finger licking good. I ordered a double order to take home but they had run out to my disappointment. The pork was delicious and I took some home. But also ordered some black beans to take home since I finished the ones which came with my order. The milkshakes were also yummy. I highly recommend this place. Unfortunately, I live in Metairie. The service and ambiance was good and clean. However, the meat in the Ropa Vieja and the Cuban Sandwich were extremely salty and not edible on this lunch day. The empanada was golden brown and hot, but the chicken inside was hot and cold. It was not properly defrosted. We came from far because of all the good reviews, but I would never recommend anyone to go. The cook advised that even if it was remade, the Ropa Vieja and Cuban Sandwich would taste the same. I hoped they would not charge for the Ropa Vieja and the Cuban Sandwich, but they did and so I paid and left the food on the table. read more

So I saw Saxon Latin Grill on Yelp as I was driving through BR for work. I am so glad I did! The food is fresh, the restaurant is super clean, and the service was fast. I wanted kind of a light lunch, so I got an order of Tostones with guacamole and shrimp. First of all, it was beautiful. Secondly, it was amazingly flavor for such a simple dish. The guacamole was fresh and the shrimp were perfectly grilled. The server was very nice and cheerful, and that lunch stop really made my day. Keep it up Saxon, you guys are doing an awesome job. Saw this place on social media and it looked like the real deal. Grew up on Cuban food in south Florida and this place is the real deal. Everything was well seasoned and great seeing folks holding down a small business. Lobby was a little warm but they had fans and were being very cordial. Saw a writeup about Sazon in the Advocate so I checked it out. The restaurant is fresh and clean and the service was pleasant and responsive, I had a Cuban empanada and the Cuban Bowl with shredded pork, rice, black beans and grilled onions. The food was ok but lacked seasoning and flavor. The pork meat was the best part but it all needed salt and pepper. The best thing there was the cilantro/lime sauce that accompanied the empanada. I'll give them another try and bring some Cuban friends along for authenticity. read more

Found this place while traveling and took a chance. Restaurant very basic but very clean. Latin music playing. From a sizable menu my husband and I selected a steak sandwich to share. It was huge so very shareable. The sandwich was very good but we also ordered empanadas which were amazing. They have Cuban and columbian empanadas and we ordered one of each. The best I've ever had. It's a fried plantain cake topped with guacamole and your choice of shrimp or other protein. They are very flavorful and so fresh. This hole in the wall Latin grill was honestly delicious. the food tasted fresh and authentic. The service was wonderful and our waitress gave excellent suggestions. It has been more than 15 years since I have had authentic Arepas and I was pleased! the grilled chicken inside of the arepa tasted delicious ! It was grilled to perfection and very tasty. My husband enjoyed his Cuban sandwich. He likes to get one anywhere they are on the menu and this one has knocked all the others out the game. It pains me to write this review, as I was rooting for this small, new business. We arrived around 1pm on a Sunday afternoon for dine-in. About 60% of the tables were occupied, so my husband and I didn't have to wait to sit. We promptly ordered a Cuban sandwich (substitute the regular fries for Yuca fries for $2 extra - definitely worth it!) and the churrasco steak with white rice and black beans. We waited just under AN HOUR without any warning for our food. Around the 50 minute mark, I asked our waiter how much longer. His reaction was general confusion and no apology, as if it's normal to wait almost an hour for food. After talking to the kitchen, the waiter informed us it would be another 2 minutes. There were other tables near us that also waited much too long for their food (nearly an hour for a papa rellenas or an empanada). 10 minutes later, our food finally arrived. It was hot, fresh, and pretty good... but waiting an hour without a head's up is pretty inexcusable for a "fast" casual concept. The criticism of the Cuban sandwich is that the pork was shredded, and not on Cuban bread. The yuca fries were good but I wish there was a dipping sauce. The churrasco was under seasoned but cooked decently. The waiter also brought me the wrong type of beans but I wasn't going to wait any longer for food. It will be a while before we return. If we do, it will certainly be a call ahead order! read more

My wife is 1/2 Cuban so when I sent her this link she was super excited. Everything we had was great and we'll be back to try more. The Cuban was huge with a ton of meat and crispy bread. Yo so I know this place is new but it is crazy good! From the entrees to the desserts this place is nice. All the options I've tried on their menu here so far have come out hot and fresh every single time. I love hot food and when I see steam coming off that thang it's even better. A few months ago having heard more than a few people raving about his establishment I dropped by and placed a to go order. I arrived shortly before 5:00 p.m. on a weekend everning ---since it was early they were not busy----there were 2 occupied tables. The interior was pleasant and clean. It was not loud---there are 2 or 3 tvs, one of which had one a football game and one which was showing a soccer match. Being it was my first time I had difficulty how to place an order---there's small menus and a board which also has items available After reviewing the menu I order the yucca fries appetizer as a past patron had raved about their yucca fries, an entree of the pork with plantains and an etree of their fajita-type beef. The yucca fries was great and the plantains were even better. The pork nuggets were tasty although I am not sure of its presentation of sorta like pork bites but the taste and quality were thumbs up. The beef I found to be a little tough but perhaps that had to do with our not eating for 45 minutes after I had left the establishment. The food smelled good and make the ride home positive. I need to return to try more of their offerings. read more

I'm giving this little diner 4 stars because the food was a good Colombian/Caribbean mash-up and portions were generous, service was excellent BUT be warned - if you're expecting Cuban food, this ain't it. The "Cuban" sandwich was made with a spicy pulled pork. The bread was fresh but it was French. It simply wasn't what I expected. The tostones- well, the way you make real tostones is to cut the green plantains into 1" thick slices, fry lightly, remove and blot them, smash them and THEN salt and refry them. Otherwise, they're too thin and bland. I almost wanted to go back there and show them. The only really Cuban item on the menu are the HUGE croquetas. They were perfect- each one equivalent to 2 regular (I would make 4 out of the 2 and make them shareable.) My friend had a skirt steak and she said it was really good- just not real Cuban seasoning. If I had to identify the cuisine, I would call it Colombian fusion and then it would be a 10 star diner. It's not fancy but comfortable and pristine. The owners are super nice and very attentive. It's not necessarily a first "date" destination but a great place to hit for a quick meal before a movie, after a festival or even a flavorful lunch. read more
