I have had a few back issues over the years and a few issues really reared its ugly head in 2016. After finishing physical therapy for a pinched nerve at Athletico I threw out my back a few days later. I was in the most pain I've ever experienced with my back. I found this place on a chiropractor Google search and they set me up with an appointment immediately as they could hear the pain in my voice. I loved that they were very close to me in the South Loop located above the Trader Joe's on Wabash & Roosevelt. I came over and got checked out by Dr Luke Stringer and he set me up with a 3 month plan that would have my back in better shape. He did the standard x-rays, gave me a 3 day a week routine that includes exercise, power plate, adjustments and traction which all helped in the correcting of my spine. In addition to getting my back straightened, I actually enjoyed coming here as not only is Dr Luke an all around decent guy to laugh and chat with but his staff that includes Dr Cassie, Illyana and Norma are very cool as well. Professional yet Personable. You are not a name on a list when you visit Dr Luke and his crew. You are a person with a name, with a problem(s), looking for a resolution. Having suffered from back and hip issues for most of my adult life, I just dealt with it. Getting older, however, it was becoming more cumbersome to deal with. This is when I decided to take a walk to the corner of Roosevelt and Wabash to see about getting all this taken care of. From the start of my treatment to the end, AHC treated me like a person, a person with an ailment and made it a priority to ensure that ailment was being treated correctly during each visit. They cared about my comfort level; they cared about how I felt since my last visit and also took into account when I missed a couple of visits because of other priorities. AHC did not miss nor skip a single detail during my treatment. I am not one to have my neck manipulated. When I mentioned this, Dr Luke did not even blink an eye when he responded, "No problem, here is what we can do for you" and showed me the alternatives. Several appointments scheduled twice a week were a regular thing for me and when it grew to an end of the care, the proof was in the x-rays. Along with my overall stress, comfort, strength and stamina while sitting and standing being at a level I have not felt since I was in my teens. I just want to say how thankful I am for a place like this. I've been suffering from back and neck pain for years. I assumed it was just a part of life until I discovered Advanced Health. I spent a lot of time interviewing a lot of chiropractors and physical therapists before I decided on Dr. Luke, Dr. Cassie, Dr. Drew, Suzanne, Amber and the team. I went with them because they not only do common best practice in chiropractic adjustment as well as traction, but they have a really big focus on therapy and corrective exercises. I had a persisting shoulder injury that was not getting better. Advanced Health strongly believed the path to recovery wasn't just on the shoulder, but was also in pulling my neck back (to relieve tension on my traps) and strengthening my back. I came here for a consultation and to find out about a treatment plan for some pain in my arms and shoulder. It was truly a bizarre experience. First, Dr. Luke or whatever talked a million miles a minute. I'm an intelligent guy, but even I couldn't keep up. It started to feel so rapid fire like it was a pre-planned speech. I started to feel something was weird when he said in our first meeting "how dedicated are you to fixing this problem on a scale of 1-10?" or something to that effect. There were other odd questions. I presume they obviously want people to come in regularly, which makes sense. But the way he rapid fired everything was odd. Then they took X-rays and scheduled a time to go over them. Again, it was rapid fire explanations during which he's pulling the X-rays up while he's drawing on the back of what appeared to be scrap paper with dry erase markers and then took a clear sheet with dry erase marker and started drawing over the screen with my X-rays on them (to show the issues with my neck). Now, I'm not saying these issues don't exist. What I'm saying though is that he was making the same picture, started tilting it, etc. all very quickly and drawing super fast. Follow up questions were curtly answered. No normal person would follow what he was doing. And based on the speed at which he was moving, it was clear he wasn't that up for stopping for questions. He kept pointing at my X-rays and asking me to compare them to the chart on the wall. It finally all hit at once when the actual doctor told me what the treatment would be and then turned his dry erase markers to the scratch paper and wrote down 3, 4 figure numbers. It literally felt like I was buying a car and some car dealer was trying to sell me something...especially after the bizarre sales pitches. When I asked questions about the numbers and where my insurance fit in, he had some very brief explanation. Basically, the 3 numbers are so that you pre-pay for months of "treatment" with cash. And since you save 30%, no one could even look at doing anything but prepay. The thing is, my issues were not even that bad. I can't believe if you were actually at a stage where you were desperate for help. Now it makes sense why he was asking how dedicated I was. It was a sales pitch to get you to throw cash out front in order to tug at your emotions and pride. I've been a lot of places, both medical, holistic, and cosmetic surgery professionals, but this one seemed off. I've never had anyone have the actual doctor get into the nitty gritty of the billing. That is typically the job of the office staff. I'm only giving it 2 stars because the receptionist seemed very impressive while I was waiting. She knew every name of the people they filed in and out of the back room which was full of people having treatments out in the open. If you want privacy, this is not the place. It was weird too because he never even showed me what exactly I would have done or what the facilities were like prior to dropping the cash. Clearly, based on the other reviews and the number of people in there, people like them. However, I will be avoiding since it didn't pass the gut check. read more

Going to the Advanced Health Chiropractic has quite literally changed my life. I had severe tailbone pain whenever I sat for a period of longer than 20-30 minutes when I first started. After 12 treatments, I feel significantly less discomfort while sitting and also healthier because of the therapeutic exercises. Who would have imagined that a car accident over 15 years ago, would have such a profound affect on my posture, neck, body structure.. basically everyday functionality?! I wore a neck brace after the accident and was given the ok, but I knew i wasn't as i got older and realized I was constantly straining my neck, shoulders and back. I was hesitant to check out a treatment center because of cost and really believed that yoga and stretching would help. I am amazing at how good everyone;s memory is. After my 36 visits I received another set of x-rays and it turns out all those adjustments and traction sessions have paid off. My neck now has a noticeable curve. I showed over a 79% improvement to my neck curve. It's finally nice to be one of those case studies where they have to add the disclaimer that not everyone will see the same results. I did take my physical therapy seriously, did all my reps, iced after every visit and tried to stick to my schedule without canceling sessions. I did also receive trigger point injections which probably helped in breaking down scar tissue which allowed for greater gains in my neck curve. I feel better. I don't really get the urge to crack my own neck since there is significantly less pain now. Additionally, my back and neck muscles in general are less stressed and knotted. I plan to receive some supportive care and also work on my own to see if I can make additional gains. read more

I like the way the facility is organized with various stations to visit: physical therapy, needle therapy, traction, and chiropractic adjustments. Everyone is genuinely friendly and kind and into good health. I am a senior citizen with hip and low back pain and the regular visits have been helpful in reducing pain but also in encouraging me to do more on my own, such as swimming, going to the gym, practicing yoga, and eating well -- mainly because just having the routine makes you think more about what you can do for yourself. I am about half way through my treatment and feel the time investment is worthwhile and has lessened my pain and helped with balance (another issue that I have). Dr. Vear (chiropractor) and Rivera (traction and physical therapy technician) and the needle nurse (I just call her Nurse) are the ones that I deal with the most and I rate them highly. But everyone is attentive and eager to make your feel welcome. I am so glad Medicare covers this treatment. AHI is definitely all of the above plus more (I do not mean to sound like a commercial). I have been going to AHI off and on for 3 years. I had extremely bad, to the point where I sometimes couldn't walk, back pain before I came in the first time about 3 years ago. I was only in my 20's but I had a lot of lower back injuries and hip pain from numerous sports and possibly a car accident I was involved in where I was T-Boned by a guy back in 2010. The team focuses on the problem area(s) and come up with a personalized plan that would be most appropriate for your condition or goals. With 36 weeks of physical therapy, traction and chiropractic adjustments I no longer experienced lower back pain, even to this day (again, don't mean to sound like a commercial). I still however go in because I sit at a desk most of the day and because of that have bad posture resulting in upper back pain, and I feel like most people need to work on their posture anyway. I still am baffled when people tell me they do not believe in chiropractic care. There is now MORE than enough scientific research, evidence and data to prove that chiropractic care actually works. Dr. Walker and his team are AMAZING. I don't ever write reviews, but people could be missing out on such great chiropractic care if I do not say something! I came in with so much back pain- so bad that I had days I couldn't even put my pants on. After 6-8 sessions, I started feeling like myself again. That's a small price to pay for the big difference it made in my life. I finished my entire treatment (3 months-3x a week, 30-45 min each session) which consisted not only of adjustments but traction and physical therapy exercises. I not only felt healed, but I felt STRONG. My X-rays showed visual improvement. My neck was curved, my hips were more aligned, and my back was straight. I'm now on supportive care, which means I go in for adjustments only. Regardless to where I am in the treatment, the doctors and assistants are so caring, personable, and helpful. Straight up: Dr. Walker is incredible. I woke up one morning in agonizing pain, having done something to my neck, apparently in my sleep. I could barely get dressed, I couldn't do my hair, I was miserable. After everyone in my life yelled at me to find a chiropractor, Yelp pointed me in Dr. Walker's direction. After my first adjustment, I cried like a baby, but within 30-45 minutes I was feeling at least 50% less pain. By the end of the week, I could lift my hair dryer. At the end of two weeks, the debilitating pain and incapacitating stiffness in my neck was largely gone. Dr. Walker and his staff are incredibly helpful, care-focused people. They want to see you get better, and it shows in every way they interact with you. Not only does he focus on adjusting your spine, he gives you exercises to strengthen your neck and back to ensure that you make a full recovery. A couple months ago my back went out, as it often does *sigh*. I purchased a Groupon to The Joint thinking I could go in and get a quick adjustment and be on my merry way. NOPE! When I walked in the doctor working could tell I was in a lot of pain. She sat down and talked to me for a bit, asking questions about my back pain. After about 10-15 minutes she told me she didn't feel comfortable adjusting me until I had X-rays and they didn't have the equipment to accommodate me. I asked if she knew anywhere I could go and was referred to the Advanced Health Institute. I went as soon as my schedule would allow it. Having no expectations, I was greeted with friendly faces and lovely scents! Good smells always = brownie points. Mmm brownies *drools*..OK, back to this review. So I was greeted by Dr. Cassie who explained exactly the way they do things so I felt at ease and like I was in good hands right off the bat. I had complimentary X-rays and some state-of-the-art laser treatment for my VERY acute pain. I was actually going on a trip and would be in a plane for a couple hours which worried me so they wanted to do something for me to alleviate some of the pain before my trip. I was introduced to Dr. Luke who wanted to know about the history of my back pain so he could get a better idea and then we did some X-rays. After my mini-vacation I quickly returned to the office to see the results of my X-rays and WHOA MAMA. My spine basically looks like the letter "C" but BACKwards. OOF. It was so upsetting to see that, I actually cried. Dr. Luke assured me they would fix me right up, though. He had a treatment plan all laid out for me that included exercises, adjustments & traction. In your 20s, you can typically deal with any pain. It is your 30s that weeds out everyone and determines how you are going to live your life. For ten years, I've dealt with crippling lower back pain. The type where you call into work and have your co-workers start to question how bad it really is. Over those ten years, multiple chiros have been visited with hours of individual research being done. Finally had it figured out, with over 30 minutes of stretching and foam rolling in the morning with night time stretching as well. Anytime I broke out of that routine, my back would give out. Did some research and found Advanced Health Institute, felt comfortable with how they blend physical therapy with adjustments. That is my weed-out, it should be yours too. With insurance covering the visits, I had nothing to lose. After doing complete x-rays, they determined that my chronic lower back issues were caused from neck and thoracic spine 'issues'. I had my doubts because the trauma looked like it was caused from a car accident when I was 18..which I couldn't believe that I was able to live with it for so long. I couldn't handle the pain anymore and was tired of beating myself up and let them adjust my neck which I never allowed in the past. After religious and consistent rehab (Physical therapy, adjustments and traction) combined with at-home workouts, I can finally wake up without that weird tight hamstring feeling...I'm able to workout without that feeling where my back is going to give out....I'm able to work out and not ice my back for 40 minutes....I'm finally able to work out consistently without taking breaks because of my back.....Squats are easy, ab workouts no longer puzzling difficult. Dr Luke is the best of the best. I've seen many chiropractors over the years and he Is the best adjuster and doctor I've ever seen.
