Ok We came back at 12:30 looking for shaved ice. The answer is that their machine has been broken for weeks with zero timetable on when it's getting fixed. I was told that I can't leave Hilo until I had their chocolate ice cream, and omg, I'm glad we finally tried it. The ice cream was like no other (better than Haagen Dazs). They have the classic flavors as well as fun and more local flavors such as ube, banana macadamia, and Kona coffee. Their Ice Cream Shop has the best Paletas around. I tried the Peanut Butter Chocolate and the Ling Hung Mui Mango! Totally awesome! Various local flavors as well as the normal fare. There are dairy and non-dairy options. All at a very fair price. The Ice Cream is flown in from Maui and again the normal realm of flavors, but also a lot of local flavors. They're so sweet, kind and funny, we come here everyday they're open for the great treats but more for their lovely presence. My "Aunty" Kay brought some lychee paletas over for my mom and I to try. Wow! We loved them! They were very sweet, but we thought they tasted wonderful. The lychee paletas had pieces of fresh fruit in them. They were heavenly! My mom and I loved them so much that we wanted to share our "discovery" with our friends. We went there today and bought 36 paletas as gifts for friends. Pandamonia's Paleta Palace has paletas with and without dairy. The left side of the case contains dairy, and the right does not. (I only took a photo of the left/dairy side of the case.) There is a large selection of flavors. The current seasonal flavors are lychee and mango. Another popular flavor that is not seasonal is the passion fruit (lilikoi). The woman there, Lianne, was very friendly, warm, and kind. We had a wonderful conversation with her. Lianne packed the individually-wrapped paletas in Ziplock bags with ice for me. That was a very considerate touch. Pandamonia's Paleta Palace is located at the ground level of the Alii Ice Plant. At first I went up the stairs to what looked like a window, but it was actually at ground level on the right side with tables and chairs outside. There is a door to enter and order. Inside is small but charming, like an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. They also serve ice cream, but I did not look at the ice cream flavors. I was too focused on the paletas. I'm sure the ice cream is wonderful, too! I highly recommend Pandamonia's Paleta Palace for paletas or ice cream! What a hidden gem!!! read more

Part of the Alii ice co, Pandamonia's Paleta was a highlight of the trip for sure! Popsicle heaven, like a Kid in a popsicle shop. I've never seen so many flavors, and easily the best tasting and texture of popsicles I've ever had. We had 3, coconut (haupia), mango cream, and horchata (with chia and rice), all were great. All made by hand right there in their shop, and nearly every flavor is made from whole fresh fruits and local ingredients. Ask to see how they're made and you'll truly appreciate the time effort and passion that goes into each one. To think, I stumbled across this on a morning run, otherwise I never would have found this gem! Mahalo to the friendly guy who makes them with his buddy (starts with a M and I would butcher the spelling if I tried!) who let us hang out in the AC, and helped explain each of the interesting fruits and flavors we weren't familiar with. These guys are doing it so right, and I hope they get some crazy exposure and success on the island and beyond! Check it out! read more

They have the best frozen fruit bars I have ever had! They are made right there, and they are made with local fruit whenever possible. I met the guy who creates them, all his own recipes. There must be at least 25 choices, and many of them are dairy free, $2 each. They also have 8 to 10 ice cream choices, $3 for one scoop. The Kona Coffee is made in Kona, I don't know about the other choices but I did try the mango. The people who work/create there are the friendliest and most genuine that you can hope to meet. read more

It such a perfect experience to park, pick up popsicles, and eat them while walking under the shade of the HUGE banyan & monkey paw trees at the neighboring park. Super low key ice cream parlor that lets you relax even further in Hilo. Easy walk from neighboring hotels and has easy parking (45min max time). They supply the ice to all the local shave ice parlors they said, so while our shave ice quest hit more closed places due to NYE holiday this place filled in nicely. read more

This place is a hidden GEM! WE walked past this place numerous times on our morning walks. Then on a walk back from the farmer's market in downtown, we decided to stop by and get a popsicle. The owner of Alii Ice showed us the favorites in the ice cooler an informed us that all 42 flavors were available inside the room that he is renovating into a full popsicle and ice drink bar. The room has restaurant furniture from the 1960 diner which reminds me of Happy Days. It's a work in progress, but impressive non the less. There are also historical pictures of the Ice company from past decades. Air conditioned and cool, we sat for a while to talk to another patron who was in no hurry to leave the cool setting. May be easy to miss but tucked away in the park is a little ice pop stand. They are open early so you can grab one after a morning walk at the park. Very tasty and refreshing. The owner patiently explained the many variety of flavors to us and helped with helpful recommendations. read more
