    Lemon Bars. My favorite

If I lived closer I'd be here way too often. What a cute little spot to enjoy a sweet snack. 808 Sweet Shack is the perfect place to do just that. Cute inviting Island atmosphere with perfectly baked sweet treats. I've stopped by 3 times so far and they have yet to disappoint me. I have tried a few of their selections and my favorites are the Lilikoi Cheesecake, Lemon and Butter Bars. If you are a fan of Lilikoi Cheesecake you need to try 808 Sweet Shacks version. Different than most that I have tried in a good way. The ratio of Cheesecake to graham cracker crust is perfect and Lilikoi was not too sweet or tart. I also love that the Lilikoi wasn't just a glaze added after. Consistency more of a gelatin. My favorite by far is the Lemon Bars. So so good. Tart lemon filling with the perfect I'm going to guess Shortbread crust with a little sprinkle of confectioners sugar to cut the tartness. Love it. Long story short, if you're in Hilo give this place a try. Fresh baked goodies made with the freshest local ingredients at a good price. Down town on Hilo Bay in the old S Hata building right past Cafe Pesto. I'm glad I did.

Owner Amy, always comes through with exactly what I'm hoping for. The flavors, creativity and overall delivery of all of the cakes, pies and cookies I've ordered from her are 5 star! Mahalo for all you do 808 Sweet Shack!

Excellent German Chocolate Cake also they were able to get this custom cake for me with only a little over a day's notice. Major props.

Forgot the name of these sweet things, but one is chocolate and the other had a special, in-season lychee topping-filling!

This is a great find on the waterfront in Hilo. It's in the same building as the popular Cafe Pesto restaurant, but up one flight of stairs. Their offerings can change daily, but include freshly baked cookies, cupcakes and other baked sweets, along with delicious Ka'u coffee from elsewhere on the Big Island. There's a comfy seating area and wonderful air conditioning, for those days when the trade winds abandon Hilo. The owner, Amy, is dedicated to her craft and friendly. Hilo has many of these kinds of hidden spots. I hope to go back here and sample more of Amy's offerings.

In fact, except Madam Pele does NOT necessarily keep to the same schedule as the bakery, would try to time my Volcano drives to coincide with Friday, Saturday, or Sunday! Hahah. Today got a sampling of Mediterranean scones (savory with olives and delicious seasonings), croissants, danish, and my favorite... the ube cruffin. Holy Moly Batman... that one item was worth the drive alone! Since there really wasn't any real estate in our tummies, we split everything 3 ways... over the course of the next few hours. Two weeks later, still thinking about that ube cruffin! Would definitely do a repeat on that as well as the Medeterranean scones while trying other items. And as the nice couple infront of us in line mentioned, will have to return for the sister deli across the parking lot. Heard it was featured in Guy Hagi's food vlog. And if its good enough for Guy Hagi its where I want to be my next mealtime!

Thank you for making such an amazing pastry.

I knew there might be a line so I planned ahead and placed a phone order. There's a separate line of phone orders too which was really nice. But if you wait in line they do come out with samples - just saying. Also they have pre-packaged mochi packs - which make great gifts. I bought a bunch of mochi to take home to mainland (I froze it after buying) and took it to my parents house where we cut 10 pieces into 3 pieces to do a mochi tasting. Honestly all of them were great, but top 3 were: - shiso - I didn't know what to expect, but the flavors works so well together. Such a unique combo, with subtle shiso flavor! Highly recommend. - kamato - I didn't know if I'd like it so only got one piece.. after trying I wish I had more. - peach - this is my perfect mochi. The white filling just works and it's not too sweet. I know the strawberry is their #1 seller so I tried it and it's really good, it was maybe my 5th favorite of the mochis tried. All in all a great mochi shop that's I'll definitely visit again!

The mochi is made fresh daily, and it's highly encouraged to place an advance phone order prior to pickup so the shop can manage the high demand. The space at the front counter is very limited, so expect a wait outside to order and/or pickup. Their fruits menu changes seasonally, so we just had to try 1 of each item: - Strawberry - Mandarin Orange - D'anjou Pear - Bing Cherry - Green Grape - Cotton Candy Grape - Nectarine - Strawberry Short Cake We also had to order their Peach and Lilikoi flavors. Everything was so pillowy soft and mochi-licious!

At the rate people were buying, this house of flour, water, yeast, and salt would be out of bread in no time. We got two focaccia slices: goat cheese roasted pepper basil and an ali'i mushroom garlic. Both were chewy but airy at the same time. The mushroom was spicier than expected requiring bites of the goat cheese slice to cool the palete. The roasted peppers and basil added extra flavors to the richness of the goat cheese. Both were delicious, large slices of bread, and you should absolutely make a stop here, just make sure they're open. And get there early. These Hilo natives love their bread and there may not be much left if you get there late! For those of you familiar with Honolulu's famous Breadshop in Kaimuki, this may be slightly better, but don't take my word for it. Parking in whatever street parking you can find.

Their store is only open on Wed and Sat, so you should definitely plan ahead to visit this store on those days in the morning to have a better selection of bread choices. I tried their Asian Pear foccacia and it was absolutely amazing; pear, honey, and manchego cheese was a perfect harmony of sweet and savory flavors akin to well-balanced charcuterie board. Pane Nudo is a must try in Hilo. Highly recommend their foccacia bread!!!
