My wife asked if we could pre-order the girl said yes. Then she told my wife that it would be better we go there because of a large selection of flavors. My wife ask if they were going to be open on Friday she said yes. Well we went on Friday morning. We entered the parking lot and didn't see any signage. We circled the parking lot. My wife called and was told go to the drive in back of the building. We did and still no signage. My brother-in-law and I got out and started looking for the entrance. My brother-in-law found the entrance. A lady came out and said, since you're here I'll service you. Well the three of us entered the office. She showed us a small cabinet with four packages of Lavosh. Well I picked up three of them. As the lady worked on our receipt a man who was talking to my wife outside came in and gave her a package of lavish. Well the receipt read Hawai'i County Economic Opportunity Council the same as signage that was posted at the entrance of the parking lot. Rainbow Falls Connection is probably the name they use to sell their wares. The bag of broken pieces and whole pieces was the same price eight dollars a bag. As for the taste my wife could pick out the pieces that were lilikoi flavored. The rest that we tried so far were crisp but no decernible flavor.

I asked several Hilo friends, but no one seemed to know where to go for this stuff. Finally, I my Hilo friend asked her sister who pointed her to this spot - and luckily, it was open on Veteran's Day! I loved the feeling of going somewhere not well known, and was thrilled when I finally found the small factory. There were large bags of the various flavors (mango, mac nut, furikake, sweet potato, etc.) and mixed lavosh (which is a nice way to sample various lavosh!). The lavish itself is crispy, light, not too sweet, and so addicting. You can easily eat handfuls without realizing it! It's not the easiest stuff to transport home, but it's unique and will last quite awhile (if you don't eat it too quickly!).

We got two focaccia slices: goat cheese roasted pepper basil and an ali'i mushroom garlic. Both were chewy but airy at the same time. The mushroom was spicier than expected requiring bites of the goat cheese slice to cool the palete. The roasted peppers and basil added extra flavors to the richness of the goat cheese. Both were delicious, large slices of bread, and you should absolutely make a stop here, just make sure they're open. And get there early. These Hilo natives love their bread and there may not be much left if you get there late! For those of you familiar with Honolulu's famous Breadshop in Kaimuki, this may be slightly better, but don't take my word for it. Parking in whatever street parking you can find.

Their store is only open on Wed and Sat, so you should definitely plan ahead to visit this store on those days in the morning to have a better selection of bread choices. Definitely also loved that they had samples of basically everything they sell. Also loved, we learned, it was actually the chocolatier himself running the shop when we were there, so all our questions were being answered directly from the source. I had bought the 4 oz extract a year ago at the gift shop and still have some, so decided to splurge with the 5 course lunch, with vanilla used in each dish. From popcorn to vanilla ice cream dessert, each course was exquisite. There are two main courses - one vegetarian and the other with a chicken sandwich. While I found the sandwich uninteresting, the "thrice cooked" potatoes and salad, using honey peppered pecans, were amazing. The vegetarian pastry option with red pepper and cream cheese was nice and I will indulge in that next time. And there will be a next time. An inventive, tasty meal using the farm's vanilla in each dish and worth the drive to Pauillo from Kona. We were served out on the lanai, in a casual, pleasant atmosphere. There were about 15 guests. Although I went for the lunch, the tour was very informative. Zach squeezed in more info in 60 minutes than I could possibly absorb, so guess I must go back. He is wonderfully enthusiastic and The shop has great things but the best is the vanilla extract, which is very concentrated so will last a while. At $45 for a 4 oz bottle, it is not cheap, but after learning how labor intensive harvesting vanilla is, it is actually a bargain. I will never buy cheap imitation vanilla again. I also bought the vanilla honeyed pecans, used in the salad, and they won't last the week. Correction. They didn't last two days.....incredibly addictive. I finished them off in two days. All vanilla produced by this company is used in Hawaii, mostly for Roselani vanilla ice cream and for root beer. So the tour and lunch are good value even for a non vanilla fanatic. The company offers a kama'aina discount, and I will definite do this tour and lunch again. One of the founder's sons is sometimes at the Parker school Saturday farmer's market in Waimea and sells root beer floats with this product in both the Roselani ice cream and the root beer. The floats are out of sight. I cannot recommend this tour and lunch highly enough. All my visitors will go to the farm unless they are allergic to vanilla.
