I had scheduled an appointment with Miguel to get JUST a partial highlight, as I informed him I have K tip extensions that I get taken care of elsewhere for years. The whole appointment Miguel is asking me to go on dates and telling me he could just do my hair at my house next time. That behavior was actually the least of my concerns. When my hair was done, I left the salon with normal highlight touch up, at least I thought. My hair looked slightly thin but I didn't think much of it since it was styled. The next day my 25 inch extensions had zero volume, and the beach waves were completely gone. I texted Miguel the next day asking him if he put a hair masque on my extensions and he told me "yes I put a conditioning mask and didn't charge you". I have NEVER had any extension problems before because I know as a client, not to use this type of treatment on k tips. For the Slovak K Tip extensions I have, they are very very thick and volumous and conditioning treatments thin and ruin them. I was NEVER asked about the mask and never gave consent for this. I was not even being told that I was getting a treatment put into my hair. When I called the salon to speak with the "manager" Angie, I told her what happened, asking for a resolution to my $3100 extensions that were ruined. She interrupted me several times saying "are you done talking yet" then hung up on me out of her anger for not understanding how expensive my extensions are. It has been only 5 days since this appointment and I have now had 7 -K tip extensions come out of my head as well. The reviews on here are great for when they actually do their job, but the unprofessional approach and lack of accountability and to make things right, is where this salon lacks their true credibility. I would say solely after this type of interaction, their licenses are at risk. UPDATE: it has been 12 days after my appointment and I have lost a total of 15 extensions from my hair, in the last 12 days. It's a small and cozy hidden gem that screams posh with Miami vibes. It's hard to get that vibe from a hair salon but this place does it. When you walk in it's an open room. Normally someone greets you. I usually see Ashley first but everyone usually says hello. The list of services are available on paper when you walk in however you have to get an appointment for a free consultation before you show up. Which honestly I think it's genius. Two things: one it makes the stylist understand what is your achievable goal and two you know an estimate of what you would be paying. This way it's not a total shock. I have had only positive results so honestly I don't mind going here as many times as I need to really get what I'm paying for. Ashley is amazing at everything with coloring. The lady at the front seemed very nervous about making me wait; first telling me it would be 15 minutes and then frantically running to get someone to take care of me. I thought that was a little strange, but I shrugged it off. The atmosphere came off a little snooty and my hairdresser didn't seem to care what I had to say. She seemed pained to even speak to me when I asked her questions. I told her what I wanted and she told me "nobody gets that cut anymore so I'm not doing that." I should have left at this point, but for some reason I took her advice and let her cut my hair. I couldn't really tell what she had done but even after I asked for no bangs- I ended up with bangs. When I got home and tried to style it...I was very upset to find I had to pin it up for 2 weeks until it grew out. The worst part was going to pay and the same lady who freaked about me waiting mischarged me 20 dollars. She then fumbled around not knowing what to do or apologizing and finally refunded me. Long story short I ended up paying 50 dollars for a cut that I hated and had fixed somewhere else shortly after. I won't be returning and I suggest you go elsewhere.

Doing that task at least twice a year has gotten tiring. That's why I'm glad I've finally found Green Apple. I can't say this place is off the beaten path... It's right on Sunset Drive so I know I've passed it half a million times. But it wasn't until I scoured the Internet for an affordable place to get highlights that I paid Green Apple any attention. It's small and very basic, probably only six or eight chairs. When I went (on a weekday afternoon) I was the only customer for most of my visit. Each of the three staff members there were very friendly-- and best of all, weren't awkwardly forcing the conversation. I get the impression it's a relatively young crew (my stylist was 22), but she did a better job than people I've gone to with 25 years of experience under their belts! I'm usually turned off by places whose websites aren't that attractive, but this place is a good find. At $95 for a full head of highlights, it's also the most affordable place I've found that isn't super sketchy. My only complaint: you can't add tip to your bill... not even before it's all rung up. I find that to be a major flaw because I never have cash. There is an ATM across the street (I think it's Chase Bank), but that's definitely a pain.
