I am new to any kind of cardio and I was super intimidated by kickboxing. I am glad I chose All About Kickboxing because the class had all types of people working out. You don't have worry about buying gloves or wraps because the first time they will let you borrow theirs and then you can rent the equipment until you decide to buy your own. The class size was just about perfect and the instructor was very attentive to make sure everyone was doing the correct routines. What I really loved was we didn't just punch a bag for an hour, we moved around, did body weight exercises and ab work. The break up between movement made the class go by so fast! I've been going here for a few months now and honestly it been great. The classes are well taught and everyone of all skill levels are welcome. They also provide yoga and spinning classes of you need a break from the kick boxing. They have a weight room upstairs that has all the basics for a good workout. I have always wanted to try kickboxing but I never did because I am scared of not being able to catch up and end up looking stupid. So finally I had the courage to just do it. One night after running, I went to check the place out and was helped by Jonathan. He was very cool and answered all my questions. That night I was convinced that I wanted by to try it. They have several different group classes every day, private training, gym and yoga classes with wonderful Linette three times per week. This place is absolutely amazing. It has an awesome vibe, and it is full of positive energy. The instructors Jonathan, Alfredo and Ashley are incredible people that keep you motivated. They are very professional and very well prepared. Jonathan knows so many exercises that he mixes up to always keep the workout interesting. The place is perfectly organized to have all kinds of exercises. It is really well equipped and really clean. You can tell right away that they have so much experience in running this type of business. You even get your own punching bag during the entire workout. Also, It has a weights room on the second floor that it is also used during bootcamps. The fact that you have to run back and forth from the 1st floor to the 2nd adds an extra challenge to the workout. I love their bootcamp/kickboxing class. It really makes you work your entire body and feel really good afterwards. At the beginning, I was worried that I was not going to be able to fit in in a place like this. I am that type of person who does not feel comfortable at a gym, because I am not an athletic person or have an athletic body. And most of the time, the members and trainers are cocky and snobby. WOOT! Kickboxing is my new favorite sport! Its definitely an all body work out that leaves you tired and feeling accomplished. AAK had a special yelp event that allowed those who signed up to go to a trial class. I seriously havent sweat that hard in my life. The next couple of days I was so sore it really felt like i challenged my body to new heights. The instructors that walked around were very attentive in showing you what you were doing wrong with your kicks or jabs so that you aren't hurting your body. I love this place. If you don't like big gyms or slow frilly exercise classes, then you will love it too. Jonathan and Freddy are hilarious, super nice, always helpful, and awesome in general. First of all, the schedule is amazing! I have your standard work schedule so it's perfect that they offer 6 and 7 PM classes during weekdays and classes on the weekend! Plus it's all drop in... So convenient. Secondly, the classes (even when packed) are high intensity on the heavy bags and partnering so I'm always DRENCHED in at least 20 min. Plus with Jonathan and Freddy walking around, you feel like you're still being personally trained which is great because there are people of all different levels and martial arts backgrounds with different focuses. Third, all the members are extremely nice, easy to talk to, and everyone motivates each other! Dear curious reader, first and foremost, I LOVE AAK. I'm giving them 4 stars because it would be pretty unfair and biased if I gave them 5 stars when I really have no other kickboxing experience to compare to :P So let me share my experience with you! I first discovered AAK via LivingSocial and I've been a member for over a year now (wow, time flies). I really WISH I had taken before photos, cuz' if you were to see me back then and see me now, you'd def see a big difference! For about 8 years, I lived a pretty sedentary lifestyle especially with video editing as my primary occupation. I really wasn't working out. Between 2008-2013, I had a lot of random health issues. In 2011, I found out I was pre-diabetic. With that wake up call, I started to change my lifestyle by eating healthier and trying to work out. But I wasn't really a gym person, so I tried yoga, cardio barre, dance classes, crossfit, hiking, running, spinning, etc... all really great, but nothing I felt committed to. And then kickboxing came along. From the very first class, I just knew I was all in. I even invested in nice Fairtex gloves. And then after the first two weeks, I could already see and feel a difference. After a few months, I knew that kickboxing had changed my life. In fact, I'm no longer pre-diabetic and my core is stronger than ever. I'm still working on getting REALLY fit and that will definitely require more discipline on my part (ideally, you want to get in at least 3-4 classes a week). Not only has kickboxing been a great cardio workout, it's also been a great stress reliever. There have been days when I want to scream at the top of my lungs in my car (and maybe I have lol)... and then I make my way to AAK and it is all released onto the punching bag. About AAK: They opened up the current space this past summer with new bags/equipment and keep things pretty clean. Before, they were teaching classes at a bit of a run-down gym in NoHo, so this new space is definitely an upgrade. There are a few spots in their parking lot and plenty of residential street parking. If you don't have gloves, they have some that you can use. I would recommend at least bringing your own hand wraps (maybe more sanitary? lol). Also, it's a good idea to bring water as they don't have a water fountain. You can also purchase a bottle for $1. I always forget to bring a towel, but a little gym towel is not a bad idea with all the sweating that takes place! In case you want to, you can also shower there. Jonathan, Freddy, and Ashley are all good teachers. I've learned good form and technique from them and they continue to challenge me. Jonathan's the main instructor right now, so most classes will be taught by him. He tends to change it up a lot, so no workout is the same if you're going a lot during the week. If you're hardcore, bootcamp classes are also offered. Ashley's class is a little more structured and incorporates a good amount of stretching which I like. Freddy is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He's super knowledgeable and a walking example of hardcore discipline. If you look at AAK's website of the buff guy punching the air- that's him. Yup. Discipline. Probably the coolest thing about AAK is that there's definitely a small gym / community type vibe. People are cool and you can easily make friends if you want. There's also an awesome Armenian restaurant nearby called Tonir Cafe that has awesome chicken kabobs and sides. It's kind of become AAK's official go to spot for some post-workout protein ;] Anyway, you can read all the reviews that you want all day, so I say, just check it out for yourself! read more

I just moved to California from the east coast and was looking for a gym to train at. I spent a few years doing kickboxing back home and wanted to resume that type of training. I spent a fair amount of time researching gyms that were close to my home. The reviews I read compelled me to try out a class. I met Freddy and Jonathan the day before I took class and they were very friendly. I tried my first class free of charge and was got hooked. I signed up right then and there and I have been consistently coming in. Another aspect I love about this place is how nice everyone is. There are no egos in this gym. Everyone is friendly and willing to engage you in conversation. The other non kickboxing/boxing classes known as the boot camps are challenging and help you get that full body workout. Jonathan runs the boot camps and does an excellent job changing up the activities to make the class more challenging but fun as well. They have a great schedule and amazing instructors. I love chatting with Freddy after class about anything and everything. I'm lucky that I found this place relativity quickly. It felt like home right away and I look forward to the continued journey at this gym. I am also looking forward to the potential for more Muay Thai, MMA, grappling classes. For my first boxing class, Jonathon, Freddie, and the other members were very welcoming. Despite my beginner level, I did not feel out of place or awkward. Jonathon was helpful and took the time to wrap my hands, supply gloves, and explained proper form and technique to get the full experience from the class. That was what made it enjoyable and motivated me to return. I had a goal in mind to find a class that was intense and fun to meet my interests of losing weight and enjoy doing it. What sets these classes apart from your local gym is the intensity and diversity in the workouts. Each workout is different from the last. Jonathon and Freddie break the monotony of gym classes by offering new combinations and routines that will continue to challenge your strength and stamina. I've been here for 2 months now, and have not become bored! In fact, I'm always been challenged to work on something that will improve my workout next time. I like how they pay particular attention to the importance of form and technique. Other gym classes don't place much emphasis on these areas of your workout and only care about the cardio aspect. Instead, these classes shape you to move your body like a fighter, to bring out the potential of your movements and its strength. I've actually learned many cool things from coming here so often. I can honestly say I feel stronger. Now, I wouldn't only limit it to punching and kicking a bag, if that's what you're thinking. There are different sections within the class that allow you to do jump rope, footwork, and mitt work. All these things have developed my coordination, so I can look smooth and get those precise hits on the bag. It's very fun and feels like you're actually training yourself or others. I joined All About Kickboxing a few months ago, and had never done kickboxing. I've done yoga, pilates, cross fit, bootcamps and cycling classes, and have always gotten bored after a while. Well I'm hooked on this place!! Many times I'll go to a few classes a day. You get a great workout and the time goes so quickly! Jonathan makes each class different and interesting. Whether you're new or advanced the classes can fit any fitness level...or energy level. Believe me you'll leave feeling energized! I take out all of my frustrations and there is something therapeutic about punching out your stress. Freddy is such a warm, friendly person. He makes sure your form is right, and will pay extra attention to you as you're learning new techniques. He remembers everyone's name and loves to introduce people. I have been going to kickboxing workouts for over two years. When a gym I liked closed, I hopped around to 5 or 6 facilities to find a place I liked and felt at home in. It didnt happen. Then someone told me Jonathan and Freddie had leased a space in Noho. Even though that was a temporary home for them, they made it work. The classes were great and the people were happy. Now they have moved to thier very own place near Vanowen and Vineland and WE ARE ALL HOME. They have the best schedule and keep tweaking it to meet the needs of the member family. AAK is so much fun! Such a great workout and the kickboxing classes don't even feel like they're an hour long, but you definitely feel the effort (via soreness) you put into it the very next day. The trainers, especially Alfredo, are so friendly and helpful. I was looking for a workout to mix things up because I'm bored of going to the gym, and this is perfect. Not only do they offer kickboxing using heavy punching bags, but they also have classes for boxing, weight training, and yoga. I've been a dedicated customer for about 5 years, which is almost unbelievable to me: I've given up on Crunch, Equinox, and other gyms/studios but I will never give up on this place. This studio gives me a lot of joy, which due to my laziness I didn't think I would ever be able to say about any experience that made me work hard and sweat profusely. Jonathan and Alfredo (aka Freddy), kickboxing and boxing trainers, respectively, are great at what they do. Jonathan, in my opinion, is just a rare talent, kickboxing teaching genious. Both are genuine, kind, in some way soothing people (feels kinda therapeutic to be around them), and are never annoying - in short, extinct breed. The payment structure I use (there are a few options) is very convenient for me - I pay $150 for 10 classes, which never expire. Not sure any other awesome place offers such great plan. Those who come here are nice, non-pretentious, non-judgmental (if they are, they disguise it quite well), pleasant people. Boys to girls ratio is approximately 40/60, maybe because a lot of girls (so I hear) come here not only to get a solid workout, but also to enjoy Jonathan's charm. read more
