Down the hallway are a number of boutique shops including Attic Trunk. This place sells vintage clothes and also has a costume shop in the space next door to the main store. There is just one lady running both spaces so you have to ask to see the costumes, but when my friend and I visited earlier this week it was a quiet afternoon and she quickly offered to show us that room if we wanted. We did and the costume outfits are gorgeous. I thought the things in the store were a little on the pricey side, but my friend has shopped here numerous times and said the store owner has always given her really good deals on stuff. She told me she'd gotten a corset here that she figured would be at least $40 and the woman sold it to her for $15 or $20 instead. I found all the clothes to be in really beautiful condition and thought that if you wanted to put together a really lovely and quality outfit, this is where you could go for a vintage look.

Unfortunately, an appalling experience with the owner of the Heart's Delight clothing booth completely soured our day at the NorCal Ren Faire on Sunday, 9/20. Around 5:40 PM, a sweet, brand-new employee (on only her second day) was patiently helping me try on and lace up a bodice. My wife politely approached the shop owner to ask if we should check out early so we wouldn't keep them past closing. Instead of answering like a professional, the owner instantly flew into a rage. She was completely dismissive, refused to sell the bodice, and then proceeded to publicly yell and scream criticisms at her new employee from across the shop, leaving the poor worker near tears in front of customers. When my friend took a quick photo of the lacing technique so I could remember how to lace it at home, the owner yelled at her too (there was no posted "no photography" signage anywhere). To top it off, the owner came over to us while I was still in the laced bodice, aggressively ranting about the fit, complaining about my wife's harmless question, and spewing unnecessary negativity. It was jarring, mean-spirited, and completely uncalled for. While vendors have every right to advise on garment sizing, there is zero excuse for verbal abuse, public humiliation of staff, and outright hostility toward paying guests. I felt awful for the employee whose time was wasted, but there was no way I was going to hand over my money to someone treating people that way. Ren Faires are supposed to be welcoming, inclusive, and family-friendly. The owner of Heart's Delight failed on all counts. Save your money and support the many kind, genuine artisans elsewhere in the glen instead.

I'd never actually stopped in Ventura before and much to my delight, we ran into ALOHA ON MAIN just a few steps away. What a great store, perfect for any of us tiki crazed peeps. I honestly thought to myself this had to have been a joke or something, what, with not getting in to Ventiki and then steps away, there's a killer tiki store. I haven't won the lotto yet, but look at this dumb luck right here! The friendly gentleman running the store was nice, well informed and very patient with my Autistic son. He also mentioned that my "Book of Tiki" that I've had for 24 years has become quite the collector's item. Who knew?? Prices seemed to be very fair to this reborn tiki collector and I picked up these two awesome decanters and the Poached Poet mug, all from Tiki Farm. I'd had my eyes on the Elvira and Poet for some time. The Sven Kirsten decanter was just too cool to pass up and was priced fair. Lots of great art, mugs and clothes.
