After (and still) having Steve handle my companies health insurance for the last few years I'm ready to write a review. As with most people dealing with an insurance company it's a big pain in the rare and our experiences are no exception. After about a year of Steve asking me to allow him to take care of issues that come up with the insurance company and that I should trust him to take care of it. Again after a year of going in circles with Blue Shield I was so discouraged I said OK YOU HANDLE IT! He did, he has and he still is. I'm sleeping better and now when I can't get Blue Shield to process my prescription medications correctly I just send Steve an email and he takes care of it. The best thing about it doesn't cost me or my company anything for him to resolve these issues for us. I'm so impressed with him I've recommended him to others and they all have high praise for him. By the way I can be a big pain in the, well you know where and Bruce handles everything with cool professionalism and resolves problems. When I complained to Mass Mutual in Chicago, the representative told me, "That's what happens when a different representative takes over an account, they don't put the time or effort into it, because they are not the originator of the account." Really? Mass Mutual would allow that? My advice would be to purchase insurance from a different company. One that holds their representatives accountable for all clients.

In 2024, our home insurance was cancelled and we thought Paula Meeks (agent) would take care of us, as usual, and find us coverage. Granted, California made it tonight for its citizens, but, we thought our insurance agent could take of us. Our coverage would stop in November 2024, we called Paula and she said she would take care of everything. She claimed that we were covered by 'travelers insurance. We thought everything was fine until, our mortgage lender sent us notice that we were not covered. It was December 2025 when we were notified. We called Paula and she claimed that she would take care of it.... To make a long story short....she lied. Then would not answer our calls. Our mortgage company then charged us with their own home insurance and we were charged $700 for Paula deceitful handling of our insurance. We decided to visit her home office, only to find out that Gateway Insurance renting a desk space in another office. It was a desk that she rarely sat at. We felt conned. Beware, do not use Gateway Insurance, Paula Meeks......a rented desk within another business.

We suspected the limits in our homeowner policy were too low to cover our losses in the event of a…read moredisaster, so we requested a revised quote from our insurance agent. When that person never returned our call, I asked to speak to a different agent at Alta Vista Insurance Agency. Dawn Grant was exceptionally helpful. She clearly explained some complex insurance concepts, including the history behind them. She also confirmed that our limits appeared to be below industry standard and suggested some that our carrier was likely to approve. She then requested a revised quote from our carrier, including the option of increasing our deductible to help offset the increased cost. The carrier approved the request. And, to our surprise, increasing the deductible more than offset the cost to increase our coverage limits, and our total annual premium dropped nearly $100 a year. Since we'd already paid our premium for the year, the carrier automatically refunded the difference to our credit card. This whole process took less than two weeks, and most of the process was handled online. I highly recommend Dawn and hope to have her help us if we have other issues.
