I reached out for his opinion, and he was honest in what he thought would get the leak solved for the least cost. He suggested a patch and seal job would last at least half a decade, which fit our needs, but obviously a full replacement would be a more permanent solution. The insurance piece was uncharted territory for me and intimidating enough to not move forward with seeking a roof replacement after a large hail storm.
