They weren't the cheapest bid, but working with Mansel Zeck, their Sr Project Manager, I felt informed and in good hands. The Project Manager, Doug Henderson, was personable, professional and extremely helpful. He was always available to answer my questions and did great follow-up with the city inspector. He went above and beyond coordinating everything with the solar folks who had to remove the panels before the roof replacement and reinstall them afterwards. Doug communicated effectively through out the entire project. Doug also provided all the necessary documentation after completion which got me a reimbursement from our insurance company. I had a very stressful experience with Golden Spike Roofing and its owner, Michael McCarthy (aka Spike). I had to supervise the roof installation myself because nobody from Golden Spike was there to oversee the workers and it was ongoing chaos with many very serious installation defects. The initial crew seemed incompetent, inexperienced and lazy. It took them the entire day just to tear off the old roof, and then it rained hard that night. There were continued arguments between workers making it an uncomfortable scene. They tried to install waterproof underlayment over hundreds of loose nails which could have punctured the underlayment causing the roof to leak. Good thing I was on the roof watching and was able to stop them. They also left all the materials stacked in my driveway all week. My neighbors were even very concerned and asked if I was doing the roof myself. They sealed 1/3 of the ridge-vent closed with underlayment which could have caused the roof to overheat destroying the new shingles. They installed the roof over a bathroom vent, and over a hole they never boarded up, so someone could have gone right through the roof into the attic! When they finished and said everything looked great, I took a look and saw squashed roof shingles and footprints imbedded in shingles all over the roof. The new roof was so bad it was declared totaled and had to be replaced! The crew was so bad, they had to get another crew for the second roof. I saw all the covered installation defects noted above when they tore off the first new roof. When they finished the second roof they had to replace several shingles so they just installed new shingles right over the existing ones which left unsightly bumps, so they had to come back again. It took so long to get both roofs done their tarps burned up my lawn. This roof was to be installed a year prior but they kept delaying for months, and when they finally scheduled delivery of the materials, I waited all morning but they never arrived. Then they called saying the materials were not even in Colorado. The invoice came with an extra $500 charge and no 50-year warranty (which was paid for and on my contract). When speaking with Spike about the installation chaos, overcharge and warranty he immediately became angry and aggressive. He said he wasn't making a lot of money on my job, which explains why he was attempting to overcharge me, and not issue the 50-year warranty. They also billed me for the materials they never used and took full unopened rolls of underlayment, roofing shingles worth hundreds $ with them. I have the distributors invoice with quantity and price of all materials which I paid in full, yet Spike claims all excess materials are his to keep. Regarding the warranty, Spike tried to claim Owens Corning (OC) didn't offer 50-year warranties anymore, only the limited 10-year limited warranty. I called OC and confirmed Spike and the project manager were lying about this. I eventually contacted another Golden Spike employee and received the 50-year warranty, but to this date Spike remains unaware of this. Anyone who used Golden Spike may want to get an independent roof inspection. It can easily pass county inspection with these types of defects because they are concealed under the shingles, and you'll need to go inside the attic to inspect, or you would have needed to see them during installation. And you can see from Spike's comments below he continues to lie and mischaracterize the issues: My roof was not installed in 2023 and there was no issue with mixed dye lots or not enough materials to finish the job. It was installed in 2024 with the defects outlined above. Spikes confused about the job which I also noticed when speaking with him. He also mentioned he hadn't even looked at my contract, and not sure what was on it. As Spike notes, he sent a crew to fix some unknown cosmetic items. Actually, they had to come out several times for the reasons noted above. More importantly, Spike doesn't address any of the other very serious installation defects and issues as noted. Spike claims I said he tried to rip me off without evidence, so I attached the original bill with his extra $500 charge. Ripping me off also includes attempting to lie their way out of issuing the 50-year warranty on the contract and material pilfering issues as noted. He admits he gets heated towards his customers which I can confirm. I'd say he acted more like a bully. If I hadn't stood up to him, I'd be out the $500 and 50-year warranty for sure. He never apologized or took ownership of anything. Golden Spike and Mr. McCarthy continue to be just an abysmal company with shady leadership. read more

Awesome dude handled our claim beautifully. Now for the guys who did the roof. I have no words to explain how happy I am with these guys. from Carlos, in charge. Right down to the guy cleaning up the dirt on the ground. Everybody was excellent. a picky guy and I have nothing to complain about. Avoid This Roofer--Unprofessional and Rude I strongly advise against calling this company. Their behavior was completely unacceptable, especially for a business listed on a public referral list. When my wife simply asked if the estimate was free (as many reputable companies offer), the response she received was sarcastic and unprofessional--something about "human interaction" instead of a straightforward answer. If we wanted jokes, we would've asked for them. What we expected was basic courtesy, especially from a company on a trusted referral list. They failed miserably in that regard. There are far better, more professional roofing companies out there--choose one of them instead. read more

Very pleased with Golden Spike. I was selling my home, and needed a five year certificate as a condition of the sale. I called several roofing companies, and all of them wanted me to either a) replace the whole roof or b) file a hail damage claim with my insurance company so that they could then approve a full replacement. Jon at Golden Spike looked at my roof, found a small number of shingles with hail, and quoted me some minor repair work (fix broken shingles, reseal and repaint a vent, etc.) for less than $1000....including the certificate I needed. This was much, much, MUCH less than the other companies I spoke with. Instead of trying to sell me a roof I didn't need, Golden Spike did exactly what I asked - inspected my roof, repaired the trouble spots, and then provided me with a 5yr certificate - all for a fair price. Golden Spike was one of four companies we went to for a bid when we needed to make repairs on our concrete tile roof. Tile roofs are a little specialized, so we needed a company that knew what they were doing. They were very responsive and got the bid done promptly. They came in about the middle of the pack, but I liked the representative and the good reviews. We had a little mixup with scheduling when they had a last-minute opening and just showed up at the house, but we were able to accommodate and I was happy to get it done so quickly when waitlists for roofs can go out months. The work was fast and looks fantastic! And when more tiles needed to be replaced than had been included in the bid, Golden Spike decided to go with cost rather than mark up so that they can stick to their original bidded cost. We're very pleased, both with the quality of the work and with the integrity of the company that did not charge us more than they had originally bid despite the volume of work increasing. We're absolutely coming back to them when we need to replace the roof. read more

Great experience. Dave was extremely easy to work with and bent over backwards to facilitate my every wish. He even brought breakfast for all of the workers (and me too). Very professional, often providing recommendations to improve my experience but he was never pushy and often made recommendations to save me money while even improving the end result. I expect to receive 100% of what I pay for so almost never recommend a person or a company. Golden Spike Roofing is the exception. I would like to express how happy we are with our entire encounter with Golden Spike Roofing and specifically with their project manager Brandon Boone. Our process began when a door to door "examiner" from another company noted that our home had what appeared to be some hail and weather damage. I thanked them and then immediately called Golden Spike Roofing after confirming Golden Spike was still on the referral list. Brandon contacted us the very next day. We scheduled an inspection and he confirmed what was previously noted, plus several other places of damage. Now this process started at the beginning of the year 2021, so there had not been any severe hail storms yet. Brandon was able to locate a storm that was shown to have passed over our area from the previous year. I have never put in a hail claim for our house or our previous homes before. Brandon guided me through the process of making the application. Our insurance company was a real pain. They would not respond to us via phone. Even after several attempts by myself to get in contact with our adjuster. After finally getting an actual email from our insurance adjuster. I forwarded it to Brandon and he really went to bat for us in dealing with the insurance company. He met their inspector at our home to inspect the roof, detailing his findings and pointing out several things that the insurance inspector wanted to try and attribute to wear and tear. Our house is only 9 years old, and came with the builders crappy shingles. Brandon got us a whole new roof when initially the insurance inspector only wanted to do sections. Brandon even got us an upgrade for an ice and water shield along with some new vents. Brandon kept up the communication with the insurance adjuster. Then he showed us the differences in the shingling products and the grades available. We definitely wanted a better quality roof. With Brandon's advice, we went with a very high quality shingle as an upgrade from our previous. The first check from the insurance adjuster arrived and while we were getting it co-signed from the mortgage company, Golden Spike went to work. We got the date scheduled. Supplies delivered, crew arrived all on schedule. Roof was torn down and built back up in a day. After this, Brandon really went to bat for us again and got us two more checks from the insurance company. The insurance company originally had us at a deductible for ~$3500.00. After Brandon's work with us and the insurance company. Our final check to make everything Paid in full was only $1400.00! Brandon Boone and Golden spike roofing was very easy to deal with. Brandon himself was very personable, down to earth and easy to talk to. It was definitely a privilege and an honor to work with Golden Spike Roofing and their Project Manager, Brandon. If I were to ever need a roof again, or if anyone was looking for recommendations on a roofing company. I would not hesitate to recommend Golden Spike Roofing and to ask for Brandon Boone. read more

I was not impressed with their lack of professionalism and manipulative sales tactics. I had a project manager out to provide me with an estimate for our patio roof (he showed up over an hour late without a call). We had already selected another roofer for our home and the PM proceeded to bad mouth that contractor in hopes winning our business. They said they'd be back to us with an estimate for the patio roof within a week and never bothered to respond. Not sure if their work is any good, but I wouldn't trust them with any of my business based on this interaction. read more

I asked Golden Spike Roofing to inspect my roof for wind hail damage. I specifically told them I had a steep roof and solar panels. They ensured it was not an issue. I week later a received a text from Smitty explaining my quote was almost complete. That's when I found out the estimate was being done by satellite and that not only had they not been on the roof, they had no plan of going up there due to the pitch and safety concerns. They stated that there are specifics companies for steep roofs and they must not be one of them. Golden Spike needs to be more specific up front to their abilities or lack there of. read more

We had a very old large area roof and did a lot of upfront research. Spike came in #1 and delivered. The inspectors in Greenwood Village do a great job and were very satisfied with the work as well.
