I interviewed a few masonry companies for repairing spalling brick in my basement. Some wanted to…read moreparge the walls, which was not what I wanted. Some quoted me fairly high prices for the repair, but Martin Forde offered me the best, and most reasonable cost for the job. During our interview Martin struck me as a competent, and fair mason and he is responsive by email, which are valuable traits in a contractor. We scheduled the job, and he and his team showed up right on time. The first thing I learned is that Forde masonry may not have a full time staff. Martin definitely came out to my job periodically to deliver materials, but the masons who did the work were actually two latinos who seemed to be day laborers. They were competent, and very polite as I asked questions in my broken Spanish, but that makes accountability a little more difficult. That became a problem when I was in the basement with another contractor, and I saw one of the mason repairing a hole that was two withes thick. He was just repairing the outward face that I could see, but leaving a whole in the second layer. I asked him about it, so he dropped some mortar into the hole, a few bricks, and kept on with his repair. Yes, it visually looks fine and I would not have noticed if I were not watching as the hole was getting closed up, but that is not what I expect when I hire a professional mason to repair my walls. My job is done though, and I hopefully will not need masonry help for a while. Most of the issues I had are easily fixed with a little more attention to detail, and oversight, so I would encourage others to give Martin a chance if you need masonry help.

Hired Top Tier in November of 2023 to perform chimney and foundation work. Work was not performed…read moreas agreed to (chimney insert not installed although they stated it was done), skim coat of concrete and application of waterproofing over basement walls and floors to prevent water (concrete cracked within weeks, waterproofing ineffective or not applied at all), foundation work was shoddy and unprofessional (wood debris and concrete debris left in trench), etc. I have filed a police report and a Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) complaint with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR). Overcharged for the work completed (tens of thousands of $). Top Tier walked off the job without finishing and threatened physical violence toward another contractor on-site. Advertising is false and misleading, photographs are borrowed from other companies and reviews appear to be fake. So many more issues but I would not give this company any positive recommendations. Apparently they operate under various business names so please be careful vetting any company you hire.

The same thing happened. Zine decided to return the third time and replace the problematic sections that were separating from the foundation. It is now the middle of October and I continue to have the same issue. He said he'll return and has not yet. He has suggested that I need to paint | seal the stucco. I want to do that but first need to know that it does not separate from the foundation so I don't waste my effort. Update on Oct 24. Zine came out to meet with me today. I now understand we had a miscommunication. He said he is a man of his word and I believe him. I will post photos of the new work and results. Chris did a fine job redoing a brick walkway that was mired by dips, broken curbing and an…read moreunsecured border. I would not have believed what a difference it made! All the bricks were pulled up and the highest standards used to reset and set brick. A cement curbing under the brick not only secured brick but provided a means for directing run off water. The brick was also power washed. (Unfortunately, other remodeling elsewhere created dust and dirt on brick afterwards but that will be hosed off.)

Only discovered it when I had a fire and saw smoke coming from outside the fireplace. When a different contractor took out the fireplace, the beams in the walls were scotched and blackened. It's a wooden house, and I had my whole family inside the house that night. They always cemented the chimney cap to the top of the chimney so it could be cleaned.
