For after school and during school breaks arts and crafts, this place rocks. Neither my 5 year old or 9-1/2 year old had ever really taken any art classes let alone taken classes together. But after two days of classes during the Christmas break they came home with a ton of masterpieces from foamies, to frames, acrylic paintings and mardi gras masks. I could tell that they built up a ton of art skills including perspective, brush technique, balance, patience and cooperation. We will definitely be checking back on after school programs for our budding Matisses. Prices seem a bit steep especially when one thinks back to their youth when art was an integral part of school curriculum. With budget cut after cut, there isn't much left in public schools. We totally stumbled upon this place when my wife ran into another family looking for some program options for their kids during the break. We've walk by their previous location a half a block away for years without a clue as to what they are all about..

Could/Would you offer private art lessons in your studio to an 11-year old girl (our granddaughter) in Redwood City on Mondays or Tuesdays?

As my friend Antonio Lopez (mayor of East Palo Alto) reminded me in January of 2024, you'll get resistance any time you try to do good. Yeah, I guess that's how this world works, isn't it? So sad, but true. That's what history has taught us, with a patriarchal power structure, isn't it? Hey, on a positive note, I'm still alive today! Made it much longer than I thought, give the excessive criminal activities thrown at me from all directions. When I was at Canada College during the summer of 2023, I was thinking how fun it'd be to take a debate class... well, my goodness, after endless debates over the past 18 months, I think the combination of my street and classroom skills really paid off. As far as degrees of completion, I am still waiting on my honorary PhDs from several universities... unless they've been delivered to my Redwood City condo without me knowing?

The in-person requirements make sense, but they must include that information during the online orientation. I had to drive three hours to this school, last minute, for identity verification. After I got back home, I discovered I had to drive all the way back to hand in my documents at the financial aid office. Communication with Counseling and Admission and Records is a slow process. There are too many issues to cover, but I'm left with a sense that this school has run out money to pay their staff. It's a nice looking school, but I suspect they may be going through some serious budgeting issues, because they seem to struggle to keep business moving.

The things we learned really helped us truly understand about different mediums and techniques in such a short time too! I have been to several art classes through out my life and never had taken so much in as I did with Gemma. She is very versatile and can teach both adults and very young children with no art experience at all. I admired the professional and personable approach she gave to each student. She truly cares about art and wants to see everyone reach their goal. We had a wonderful time and the classes were more then worth it. I highly recommend this place!

The methods used seem to be very effective, and I think their approach would help anyone, whatever their level. They use computers so that each student can work on a different project, based on the skill level and interest. It's not "computer based instruction", the computers provide the "step-by-step" instruction for completing the assignment. This lets each student work at a different level and at their own pace. Then the teacher can focus on giving individual advice and instructions. The teachers are really great at working with the children. My daughter is so happy with their program, she literally runs down the sidewalk from our car to the school every time I drop her off! I can also say that their customer service is EXCELLENT, they are very client oriented, accessible to the parents, and professional in dealing with the "business side" of the school. If you are considering Lascaux, look no further, just find a class that works for you and sign up!

WCC may be known as a preschool for children with hearing loss, but if I had known about it…read moreearlier, I would have absolutely sent my older child there too--even though they have no hearing issues. Preschool should be a time when kids learn how to respect boundaries, cooperate, and advocate for themselves. WCC puts a strong focus on these social-emotional skills, more than any other preschool I've come across--and I believe that focus is what really sets children up for long-term success. My daughter has been attending WCC for a year now as a 4-year-old. She's shy, introverted, has hearing loss, and didn't speak any English when she first started. I was really nervous about sending her, but I've seen such amazing growth. Academically, she's picking up phonics and math and, most importantly, she's enjoying the learning process. Socially, she's been making steady progress--which was my biggest concern--and she genuinely loves going to school every day. The teachers at WCC are incredibly invested in the kids. Sometimes I feel like they know my daughter better than I do! They pay close attention to what works best for each child and put in the effort to help them thrive. The small class sizes also make a huge difference, allowing each child to feel seen and supported. As a parent who has experienced a few different early education centers, I can confidently say WCC stands out as the best. It's a fantastic preschool for any child--whether they have hearing loss or not. But if your child does have hearing challenges, this is absolutely the school that will prepare them to succeed in a mainstream setting down the road.

Multiple people--alumni families and even our own medical team--referred us to Weingarten Children's Center (WCC), and I'm so thankful they did. WCC is more than just a school--it's a lifeline. It specializes in teaching children with hearing differences how to listen and speak, and the progress our son has made is nothing short of amazing. The staff is knowledgeable, compassionate, and committed to helping each child thrive. When he started, he couldn't hear or pronounce high-frequency sounds. Within just a few months, he was saying those sounds clearly and confidently. What makes WCC unique is the individualized support. Our son is learning how to advocate for himself, build confidence, and connect with others. He has also learned how to manage his hearing devices and is learning to express his needs. WCC doesn't just teach academics--it gives children the tools and confidence to fully engage with the world. T The team works closely with families, making us feel supported and seen every step of the way. They not only support the children but truly embrace the whole family in the process. If your child has been diagnosed with hearing loss and you're looking for guidance, WCC is the place to turn. We truly can't imagine what our son's future would have been like without WCC.
