But wow, these guys don't come cheap! I was charged about $135/hour in labor, and it's made me drop at least 1 full star from their rating, as I'm sure there are other, less expensive plumbing companies who offer the same quality of workmanship for a more reasonable price. Turns out that, when my place was built, it was at the height of the real estate boom in S. Florida when the goal was to build things as quickly and as inexpensively as possible....I went to turn off the water valve that feeds my hot water tank when I was planning to replace it recently, and while the valve closed OK, when I went to reopen it, the valve stem snapped... No more water to my hot water tank, and the handle simply spun but the valve wouldn't open. DAMN! So that meant that, on top of the hot water heater install, I'd need to replace the valve. No problem, I figured I'd simply shut off the main valve that feeds my entire place and that would allow me to replace the valve that snapped, right? WRONG! The main valve ALSO broke in the same way. So that meant no water at all to my entire residence until I replaced the main water valve, then could install the new tank as planned. Problem was that, in order to shut off the water supply to my place, at least a few of my neighbors lose their water, too! Oh, did I also mention it was 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon? One of the guys who works here gave me a card for "My Plumber of S. Florida". He said they could shut off the water that feeds my main line and replace the valve. I called Ricardo at the number listed and explained the problem. He said they'd be over. At about 3:30, one of their guys arrived and I showed him the problem. He said he could fix everything, and asked if I wanted to talk to Ricardo about the charges before he began working. He explained that, at minimum, I'd need to pay a $15.95 trip charge since he had come out. At that point, it was a Saturday, I had things to do and really wanted to get water restored to my place and $16 for his trip charge seemed reasonable, so I figured the cost of the work would be, too. Since he was already there I asked him to replace the valve and to also complete all the other parts of the installation of the new water tank. He went away for about 45 minutes, then returned and shut off the water to my place and got to work. At just after 6:30 everything was installed and he was packing up his tools. While running my water, I noticed that the pressure was greatly reduced vs. what it had been. When the plumber came to me with the bill, he took a look and it turns out that some of the pipe sealant he'd been using had gotten into the water system, and clogged all the filters and aerators on my sinks. He did help me clean the one in the kitchen, but once he left, I checked and all my sinks were running slow and the aerators were all filled with 'blue goo" from his installation work that had to be blown out and rinsed away. I've since checked with another plumber who explained that the guy who did this work shouldn't have used the sealant close to the end of the threads, as that can cause it to ooze into the pipe when it's tightened and cause the problem I experienced. After he helped me get my filter in the kitchen sink open once again, he presented the bill. I was expecting to maybe pay a few hundred $$ for their service, but when I saw the total, I was floored. The charge for him to come over and do these repairs, which took about 3 hours from the time he first arrived until the time he'd completed his work, was more than $400! Granted, the installation is clean and professional looking and everything worked on the first try (no leaks, etc.), and I appreciated him coming on relatively short notice, but I wasn't expecting a $400+ charge for it!...and he couldn't have used more than $20 or $25 of materials, even if they'd purchased them retail.... Would I recommend this company to others? As mentioned, their work was good (aside from the issue with the blue goo clogging my sinks), they were available on quick notice on a Saturday and the guy who did the work was friendly and nice to deal with. On the other hand, I'm sure there are much more affordable plumbers who do the same quality of work. In 20/20 hindsight I'd have spoken to Ricardo when they offered to let me chat with him about the charges before they began their work, and I'd only ask them to replace the main valve and would've completed the rest of the work on my own if I'd know the total cost. UPDATE - 07/26/2013. Today I began receiving SPAM text messages to my cell phone from My Plumber of South Florida. As a result, I'm lowering my rating of this company to 2 stars.

As a long-time customer of Xelor, she trusted them to give her a fair price. Without seeking competitive bids or advice from her family, she agreed to pay $16,000 for a new system. Xelor installed a 4 ton, 16 seer, Lennox. I found out about this rip-off after the fact. Just to be sure, I consulted with three other companies. They all agreed that she was charged about twice the market rate for the system she purchased. I contacted the company's vice-president, who told me "that was the price she agreed to." I challenge Xelor to respond to this critique and argue that $16,000 was a fair price.

Sean found numerous issues which had occurred during the installation of the system by the other company - Tommy's Air Conditioning. He found several leaks around the unit, and discovered that there was almost NO Freon in the system. After 3 hours of work, Sean was able to certify that all of the issues were resolved. I had been almost 3 weeks without air conditioning, dealing with another air conditioning company (Total Air Care), who would spend 5 minutes and then leave on some pretext and demand that I set another appointment for another week. They didn't even show for the third appointment, changing the time from morning to afternoon - after I had already taken off work that morning and was waiting for them. I have an old unit, from the paperwork inside the condenser 17 years old R22 Freon 3 ton unit. I…read moregot assigned American Air Care through American Home Shield insurance. Technician seemed slick. He put in 1 1/2 pounds of R22, which his company charges 75$ a pound, AHS picks up 10$ per pound. This was explained before he added it and it's in my AHS policy. It ended up being ~100$ in addition to the 75$ for the service call. The two previous calls topped off the system but never charged extra for it. This motivated me to check it out on the internet and I found out that R22 is not going to be made any more after 2020 and it is not uncommon to be charged in the range of 75$/lb for R22. There are some aspects that are troubling: 1. Even though I told him the condenser fan at times required physical coaxing to turn on its own Justin from American Air Care never checked the run capacitor. I recently purchased a meter for measuring capacitance and found the condenser fan capacitor completely fried and the compressor capacitor was 10% below rating, which is out of spec (+/-6%). Fortunately I also purchased spare capacitors for both and after installing them it has made all the difference. Instead of having a bottom line of 79F I was able to get my house to 70F which was good enough so I stopped the test. 2. This tech added 1.5 pounds of R22 and never broke out a sniffer. I also saw him with my own eyes release R22 into the atmosphere. He also tried to say he would have to make a second call to add a sealant. He backed off this claim when he called his office, I believe he realized he would not get another service fee. He added sealant afterward, so I know he could have done it in one call. My unit was also iced up, not only on the evaporator side but also the outlet of the condenser unit, so I am pretty sure that lack of R22 at an extra 100$ above the 75$ service fee was not the problem. 3.By the way, my AC unit was just serviced in April, 5 month ago by AZ Air Conditioning Plumbing. That tech also added R22 and sealant, but did not charge extra for the call. 4. Justin, the technician from American Air Care, I am calling you out on your nonsense. You are a clip artist. I hope the money you took from me gives you a great deal of satisfaction or solves a big problem in your life because this review will cost you and your company much more. 5. I am disappointed in American Home Shield (AHS). They initially assigned my service to a company just south of Jacksonville and I live near Tampa Bay. Nobody is going to drive 200 miles each way for a $75 service call. They did the same thing to me back in August. AHS is hard to get hold of if your problem does not fit their site buttons. I ended up spending 45 minutes on hold during Labor Day before I could talk to a person and explain that I need somebody local to me to fix my AC, not someone out of area. 6. Because of AHS and Justin from American Air Care, I was clipped 175$ for a problem I ended up having to solve myself. Both of these outfits should be avoided, they are at best incompetent, more likely shady. I will be getting a new system this fall, these two outfits will have nothing to do with it. Update 10-8-2017 I cancelled my insurance with American Home Shield for the reasons stated previously. They tried to talk me out of it by offering to pay me the 75$ service call and for the expense of the materials required for me to fix my air conditioner. They should have done this unconditionally as the repair was on last year's policy. I got a full refund, good riddance to AHS and American Air Care.
