Friday night haddock, homemade coleslaw, applesauce
    Suzanne K.

Friday night, 4:00 - first ones in for the evening and by 5:30 there was a wait! This place is definitely a hidden secret- we ordered the fried haddock and an Italian beef. Both were very good- Respectable prices, fabulous service, updated interior- We will definitely be back

Excellent broasted chicken the coleslaw is mayonnaise base but delicious I actually asked for a second one. I had potato wedges instead of the fries fresh from the fryer. I was starving before my food came so I ordered a shrimp cocktail, shrimp not so big but the sauce was great and the shrimp was really good and only $4.50 now that was a bargain.our waitress was very nice and efficient.

    Pork Tenderloin with Chips

All Inn is a must try! This hidden gem has the most attentive and welcoming staff. The pork tenderloin and homemade chips are delicious. The Bloody Mary and burger were very good too. The bar area is large and there are tables for all size parties. We will definitely be back.

This place is definitely a neighborhood bar off the beaten path. The food is always good. Beer is cold and the mixed cocktails are good. Bar tenders are ok. No pool tables but they do have gambling machines. Small deck for the summer time. It is always clean including the restroom. Freddy definitely makes it fun during the games by doing giveaways. Nothing fancy but worth a stop on your bike or car.

Pleasant little surprise on a dead end street. Fish fry was great, although not all you can eat. Potato pancakes were on point.

Maxwell Mansion is a wedding venue, motel and a cocktail bar. I was here mostly for the cocktail…read morebar, but I did get a tour of the mansion and grounds. The mansion was built in 1856, making it the first mansion in Lake Geneva. The estate has been completely redone but charming details were kept. Along with a mansion where you can book a room, Maxwell also includes beautiful gardens, lounges, outdoor fireplaces, a heated pool, croquet and bocce ball. There is also a separate area in the back with motel rooms. Like I said, I was there for a lil' drink. There's a bar inside the mansion (Apothecary Bar) with all kinds of medical and druggist paraphernalia, with the space being a tribute to Dr. Philip Maxwell. But it's the speakeasy, which is accessible outside in the front of the house, that you'll want to visit. Ask for the password inside the mansion, and they will let you into a dark, below-ground bar. It's all decorated in prohibitionist flyers, and even the bartenders are dressed up in period costumes. It's a really cool and unique bar in Lake Geneva.

Focusing the review on the apothecary bar. You need to know the password to get in the speakeasy. A few days after we visited the speakeasy, we went in to try the apothecary bar to get some food and drink. A friendly helpful bartender, explained all their creative cocktails, shared the pub food that they offered, and answered questions. We ordered a flatbread pizza and a spinach artichoke dip as well as a couple of cocktails. They served us at a table where we sat on a couch in a room just across the hall and were quite comfortable. There are other rooms where you can go - not much seating in the actual apothecary bar.

I think they have seats for only 25 people so prepare to stand when it gets busy. Our bartender was Edward and he was really nice. I ordered a Tiramisu Martini and then a Porn Star Martini. They were both good, but I preferred the Porn Star one. We also ordered a Smash Burger, which was actually from Holt's, connected to this bar. That burger was tasty - brioche bun & onions = yum. The chips it came with were crunchy. The Bacon popcorn was good but way too salty for me. Im glad we found this little bar and plan on coming back in the future.

I disagree--I am a Chicago boy and it has a big city hidden gem quality about it. In fact, they promote themselves as a speakeasy. Of course you can get any cocktail you want, but my husband and I both opted for a special strawberry cocktail made with Hendrick's gin. It was refreshing, not too sweet, and garnished with a dehydrated lemon slice. Perfect! Our friends both ordered old fashioned cocktails that looked equally as good. It was a Saturday night and this tiny bar was jam-packed. We had to stand, but it was okay because we had only stopped in for one drink before heading to another restaurant for dinner. The bartenders were friendly and efficient. Prices are not inexpensive, but average to what you'd find in a downtown Chicago restaurant. If you''re looking for a cool place to hang in Park Ridge with a craft cocktail and have a small bite (they have a limited food menu, too), Pines Room is the place.
