Liars' Club: This is a neat treasure hidden in downtown Burlington above the "Coffee House at Chestnut & Pine". It's essentially a cocktail lounge, but there are multiple rooms with tasteful decor in addition to the bar and outdoor balcony. Prior to my brother's wedding at the nearby Mercantile Hall, the groomsmen had this place rented out for themselves for a couple hours. Being the "pumpkin head" that I am, I had to give their seasonal Sleepy Hollow cocktail a try. It's made with vanilla vodka, pumpkin syrup, pumpkin pie spice, lime, and ginger beer. The combination of vanilla and pumpkin really hit the spot. Although I'm not a huge fan of limes it didn't hurt the drink. Doughboy approved *special thanks to our bartender, who did a great job. I feel bad that I can't recall her name, but we were there on 9/12 and she was from California Doughboy_Food_Reviews

Drinks are the best-bartenders top notch! Make a point to stop in frequently! Such a hidden gem!

Awesome wine and good times (as usual). Service is impeccable and so is the atmosphere!

Decadent is the first word that comes to mind when stepping into the Liars Club. Relaxing and serene are the next words that come to thought. The Liar's Club is a place made for chilling. A place made to come and relax and enjoy enjoying. I would come here again in a heartbeat if ever in Burlington. Prices are reasonable and the ambiance is sheik and stylish. There are plenty of places to choose from to seat yourself and the service is stellar. You can enjoy all this and then some while chilling in the downtown area of Burlington when at the Liar's Club. They specialize in handcrafted cocktails as well as stocking a select few bottles of wine and beer. Overall it made our time eating dinner upstairs of the coffeehouse a pleasant one. Highly suggested as the place to go if you're in the area looking for a spot to romance and relax!

    Here ya go!

Great craft cocktails. Good bourbon selection. Needs to have big ice cubes. Bartender is knowledgeable about bourbon.

Nice cool atmosphere, good drink menu, adequate spirits. Quiet enough to sit and talk. An enjoyable place to have a drink with friends.

While the surrounding…read moreroad is currently under construction, getting in is a breeze with accessible entrances at both the front and the back. Parking is wonderfully convenient thanks to the dedicated parking lot and garage located directly behind the building. The standout feature of this establishment is its incredible dedication to gluten-free diners. Not only does the menu clearly mark all gluten-free items, but it extends this care to drinks as well--something I have rarely seen outside of beer selections. To start, I ordered the Burlington sunrise cocktail, and it was exceptionally good. The menu also explicitly notes that all gluten-free items are prepared separately, providing immense peace of mind. My dad and I shared the cheese curd pull-apart appetizer, which was delicious, complemented by ranch dressing that was quite fantastic. For my main course, I ordered the BLT on gluten-free bread accompanied by fries. Although it initially arrived with onion rings by mistake, the staff quickly remedied the error and brought out a fresh side of fries, made easy by their dedicated fryers. My dad ordered the sausage, and everyone at the table agreed that the food was fantastic. The service matched the quality of the food. When I mentioned my celiac diagnosis to our server, she responded immediately with an reassuring and confident "no problem." To top off a wonderful evening, we discovered they host a trivia night, part of a rotating schedule detailed on a special activities menu showcasing the fun events they offer every night of the week.

It's not very big inside, but there are a handful of high-tops, and seats along the bar. At the front of the room there's a stage as well. Sounds like they often have live music, which would be really fun to come back for. I was with a group of gals for a wine tasting. I'll say I loved all of the wines but one. Lots of great variety here! We all felt a little shorted on the tasting itself, as the woman leading out group was spread thin helping/educating multiple groups at once. We of course had to get a charcuterie plate to pair, and that was delightful. Best part? You get to take a bottle home of your favorite wine you tasted, which was a total surprise to us. In addition to their wines, they have tons of other drinks available at the bar. Custom cocktails, a whole section dedicated just to Old Fashioneds, plus some local brews. Their food menu is made up of mostly snack-style food, with many tasty picks from cheeses and meats, to spreads and small pizzas. After our tasting, we enjoyed their side patio - I had a lavender cocktail of sorts with an adorable butterfly ice cube. Points for presentation! I'd come back!

Ambiance: Ambiance and restaurant decor was one of the highlights of the night in my opinion. Lots of neat items and decor - interesting glasses, art, couches/chairs, leather menus, etc. Food: We had the Peruvian chicken wings and the wagyu beef tacos. I thought the Peruvian chicken wing dish was quite good - 9/10. The chicken was very flavorful and the salad was a decent size and tasted good. The wagyu tacos in my opinion was underwhelming for sure. It really tasted like pretty bland meat and the tortilla chips on the side were almost guaranteed straight from a bag (Aldi blue corn tortilla chips if I had to guess ). I wouldn't personally recommend the tacos. If I were to go again, I'd get the chicken wings again, and get the hangover salad instead of the tacos. Drinks: We had the coconut cocktail, the cucumber cocktail, and I had a beer from Nicaragua. All were tasty, albeit definitely lacking punch, i.e. I couldn't actually tell you with a fact if they contained alcohol. The Nicaraguan beer was super light and I liked it. There was a beer from Czechia but it was out of stock.

The mansion was built in 1856, making it the first mansion in Lake Geneva. The estate has been completely redone but charming details were kept. Along with a mansion where you can book a room, Maxwell also includes beautiful gardens, lounges, outdoor fireplaces, a heated pool, croquet and bocce ball. There is also a separate area in the back with motel rooms. Like I said, I was there for a lil' drink. There's a bar inside the mansion (Apothecary Bar) with all kinds of medical and druggist paraphernalia, with the space being a tribute to Dr. Philip Maxwell. But it's the speakeasy, which is accessible outside in the front of the house, that you'll want to visit. Ask for the password inside the mansion, and they will let you into a dark, below-ground bar. It's all decorated in prohibitionist flyers, and even the bartenders are dressed up in period costumes. It's a really cool and unique bar in Lake Geneva.
