First time I utilized the appraisal firm for my families property in South Pasadena. The most recent engagement was for my investment property in Sylmar which is currently under contract. Hired Gary for the ARV (after repair value) estimate consultation. All aspects of the transaction were great except timing. During our phone conversation, he mentioned that their schedule is generally booked 2 weeks in advance and wasn't able to visit my property until then. I wish it was sooner but fortunately was not in a rush. The reason I hired the company was for their reputation, attention to detail, passion and strait forwardness. Gary's reply to my negative review shows how good he is at manipulating the situation and his zero interest in resolving problems stemming from his dishonest dealings. How Gary chose to describe the appraisal process below in his essay response, he could easily have communicated PRIOR to accepting the job or prior to performing the appraisal. Instead he chose to agree to doing a cost to cure appraisal, then after the fact, first claimed he did not know what a cost to cure appraisal is, and now that we have filed a complaint against him on the grounds he did not meet competency requirements, he suddenly remembers what a cost to cure appraisal is and claims it is up to his judgement to do a cost to cure and he won't do one despite his verbal agreement he would. We asked for a cost to cure because that is what our bank needs from us, and I don't believe my bank would be asking us to provide a fraudulent appraisal. It was Gary's job to educate the client on what is and isnt possible PRIOR to accepting a job, not lie and agree to do certain things to secure the job then pull the stunts he did. He also still cant answer as to why he asked us to get three contractor bids to him ASAP. Needless to say All Star Appraisals has been extremely unprofessional and dishonest. read more

About 8 months ago my accountant told me I needed an appraisal of the very small house in Altadena that I inherited from my father and the valuation had to be from 5 years ago, when he passed. After calling a couple of other appraisers I decided to go with Gary because of his great Yelp reviews, his friendliness, his professional knowledge and his price which was in line with the other appraisers I called. On the appointment day he arrived right on time and took his time checking out the house and explaining everything to me. No rush. He struck me as someone who wanted to get the most accurate appraisal possible. Gary told me that my place would take a bit longer than usual and he would have to do extra research because the small size meant there weren't good comps but that the price would be the same. Gary is amazing! I called six or seven certified residential appraisers in Los Angeles County to ask if I could receive training in order to obtain my Residential License (AL). None of the appraisers wanted to train me except Gary. He answered all my questions regarding licensing on the phone and even invited me to his office the following day.
