I called on Saturday to ask if they considered Mother's Day a holiday or if we'd be able to get the special pricing that starts at 9:00 Sunday morning. The person answering the phone didn't know the answer to the question, so she took my name and number and said she would have the manager call when they came in that evening. Didn't hear from the manager or anyone else. We took a chance, drove 35 minutes, arriving at 9:00: the whole family (4 cars). Walked up to the front counter and was told they were closed to the public for a special event. I told the person that I called yesterday and she said "And...". And they said nothing about being closed to the public. No apology, no regret, nothing. We were all looking forward to a fun morning on Mother's Day. Instead we wasted a bunch of gas and will not be returning to one of the few places that a family can go have some affordable fun. Is it so hard to keep a website updated or make sure employees know about special events? Either of which could have saved the wasted morning and gas. What a disappointment!! read more

It was ok for the kids. I hadn't been there in such a long time. It hasn't changed. Good for the young kids.

We went to celebrate a birthday as a family. We had both adults & children so we needed two lanes. We were told only one lane was available because a tournament was taking place. This was around 7:45pm but didn't see anyone that actually had items for a tournament. We settled. But more family arrived and the lane next to ours time was ending so we ask to purchase that lane. The manger and one of the workers really seemed it was a problem but allowed us. The continued to make excuses on why we couldn't purchase two lanes. Once we finally got started in lanes 18 & 19 a hour in on 19 the guest on 17 and 21 started arguing Liz a mom was upset that her ex was on a date etc not sure exactly but the arguing went on for almost 3 minutes before we reported and requested money back because the argument was getting worse. Once we request money back they started suggesting moving lanes and stated 3 other customers reported the problem. A mother customer was also asking to move from near them. We had to ask the manger to get security to come inside to deescalate . While walking out the family that was finally put out had someone running toward the building as we walked out like he was going to shoot or attack. All the children with us were terrified. The police was still in the building we then returned and asked for the officer to make sure the parking lot was cleared. This was around 9:30-9:45pm. Called ahead to confirm open bowling and space available. Was assured there was plenty of space available. Arrive 20mins later and was told no space available and that we'd be put on a wait list seemingly for about 1 hour before a lane opened up. While waiting we started chatting with a gentleman about the USBC Open Championship in town. Turns out this guy was a well established local within the bowling community and was assisting with a Mini Event going on with Bowlers Journal. He tried to assist us in getting a lane as looking around we saw more that enough lanes open and unoccupied. The female manager insisted we had to wait as those lanes had been reserved. Although there is no such signage or anything indicating and validating what she had told us. She was easily upset with our group of 4 when we asked again 15 mins later about all the open lanes. The gentleman that was helping us secure a lane stepped up to a couple employees that were now behind the front desk. Explained what was happening and soon one of the young men called us over and set us up. When the manager returned to the desk, we could easily she was not happy when she noticed us setting up. Appeared she started to reprimand the 2 young men at the counter. Which all they did was provide great customer service to 4 experienced, multiple league playing per week, from 1300 miles away, bowlers who were in town to bowl the USBC Open and wanted to experience which is most likely the last real bowling alley Baton Rouge has left. Props to the boys behind the counter! Good Job! Thank you, Mystery Man, who assisted us in obtaining a lane. Thumbs down to the manager gal. We had bowled only 2 games and had left. When exiting the premises, there were still plenty of open lanes still available since before we arrived. Maybe she was just having a bad night and needed a hug. However, in a managerial role inside a high customer service business, customers deserve better than she was portraying to give us. Also Lane 33 was ultra dry. just a tiny amount of oil was present on the lane. Our guess was that the lanes have not been stripped and not oiled for about 4-6 days. It was difficult making a same day reservation as when you call they redirect you to do it online and online does not allow same-day reservations. Thankfully a supervisor was able to help us out and add us to the list for our 2 lanes. Without a reservation, the line was pretty long and people hat to wait quite a bit. Also, there's only a single line to pay for your lane and get shoes. Maybe have at least 2 separate lines for that to increase efficiency and not have people waiting for so long. The price per lane was $29/hr since it was after 5pm and the shoes were around $4.50. We had 10 people, 2 lanes. The place is a very dated, but clean for the most part. The bartender was very nice, but the prices of the drinks were kind of expensive for this type of establishment. Better lighting and music would help jazz up the place easily without doing too much. It was easy to set up the games but our lane didn't allow turning on the bumpers for certain bowlers, only for every bowler in that lane at the counter. The timer stayed up so we were always aware about how much time left. Wish they had more signage to find the extra bowling balls, shoes, restrooms, and other things people may look for. Overall, this place is average at best. We had a good time. read more

But once inside it's not bad. They have a nice arcade and it's a family friendly birthday party place but I didn't see many birthday party's when I was there on Saturday morning. This place used to be packed before the area got so bad. The bowling alley so needs to change to a new location. I'd probably bring my child or grandchild if they were invited to a party but I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving or just dropping them off there. We choose to do a very different date night last night and played a round of putt-putt golf. It was $6.00 an adult, which was very cheap yet reasonable for an 18 hole game. The girl at the counter told us to take as many balls as we wanted so we both grabbed 2 each. Really wished I had taken a few more as 1 of my balls hit the water on hole 2 LOL.. luckily my Husband played guard on other holes that was near the water. It was peaceful and we loved the waterfall and rock formations there. It wasn't over crowded and the music rocked! read more

I'll be super honest, I've only bowled here a few times. My son had a birthday party or two here, For those on a budget and don't go to church Sunday mornings are best before noon where lane and shoe rentals are cheap. Bowling just 2 games with 3 people is easily 2 hours. I see birthday parties here, and crowds of college kids many of whom are not from the area. They do lights out with moving lights and music videos over the lanes throughout the day and on weekends. They also have a pretty well stocked arcade area with a ticket generator and a prize counter. I have friends that I meet here once a week at the bar and we all converse about similar topics as Barfly's of all ages. The bartenders are really nice. If you come here you will see 1 person doing the work of 2 or 3 running back and forth servicing pitches, mixing up simple and complex cocktails, while earning their well deserved tips. There is a another smaller bar at the other end of the building serving just beer and wine. Order food at the well stocked snack bar (you'd be amazed at whats on their menu) and have it delivered to the bar or your lane. There are mobile order takers roaming around too. My friends order the pizza while I order the fries, hot wings and even the grilled cheese is good. The people behind the counter at the snack bar are really nice. remember to complement them so you get a big smile back. In a pinch when looking for a place to get hot-wings and i don't feel like wing-stop, I'll come here instead. Fun fact for anyone new to the city and referring to this place to your friends that have been here all their lives, When I refer to this place as All-Star folks look at me weird and then I say "Don Carters" and then they're like, why didn't you say so in the first place! Not being from here I wouldn't have known that. Now you can preted to be from here by referring to it as it's former name. Most evenings there's a city police cruiser out front and an office patrolling the lobby and lanes. I've never seen any trouble here even on the busiest of nights when it switches from league to college night ($5 pitchers for the cheap beer). I've been here when all lanes were full and there was an hour wait for people to bowl. The bar is nice place to hang out and people watch, converse with the staff as this appears to be their safe haven during all the chaos. Interestingly, the DJ is a computer. The system is on auto-pilot from open to close. The mechanical systems that run the lanes are maintained by a couple of dedicated technicians that are constantly correcting issues and working to make sure people have a good time. The decor in the place is as one would say "charming in it's own way". The carpet needs replacing, it still reaks of old smoke when they used to allow smoking there years ago. The decor in the bar is 70's brown panelling, although I understand it was recently renovated that way?? (hire a interior decorator guys). There is a mini-golf course attached to it that I've taken my son and his friends to a few times, and there's a snow-ball place that is now owned by the bowling alley and runs it during the warmer months on the edge of the parking lot. All in all it's a local place. Despite competition moving in at the mall, I don't think Don Carter's will be going anywhere anytime soon, and even if they don't renovate it will have that "Big Lebowski" charm to it to all that go to visit. read more

When it's past dinner time and a movie won't cut it, the next night time activity for the under-18 crowd, would be bowling. As I understand it, Don Carter's is the place to be for any bowling in Baton Rouge. From the looks of it, the locals are right as this place is bustling with people left and right and is spacious enough to accommodate all of them. There are many lanes here and the place is sprawling with young people and families. The facility is clean and the bathrooms are surprisingly nice. Bowling experts should consider bringing their own bowling balls, since the house balls aren't all that great. Using the scoring marker system isn't difficult and the staff is helpful. It's not all bowling here though, they do have a snack bar and plenty of tables for those who just want to watch and eat (and there were plenty of those people). This might be the only bowling alley I've ever heard of that caters Cajun food, like red beans & rice and jambalaya. I also noticed they have a pretty mean arcade as well, but this place wouldn't be a complete bowling alley without one. The prices might be high for Baton Rouge, but they're not expensive compared to where I've bowled. $3.50 a game or $ 17-20 an hour seems reasonable enough for me. If for some reason this is too much, consider downloading the coupons from the website to make the experience even cheaper. There is also a $3.50 fee for shoe rental, but I've been fortunate to get that fee waived each time. Be it a corporate event or a kid's birthday party, it's safe to say Don Carter's is the go-to spot for all things bowling. They close at 1AM each night and 2AM on the weekends. read more

Came here for a work event and it was clean and spacious. We did come early in the day so it was quiet and guiding us to our lanes was pretty fast. They have a food and bar area here but on the weekdays there is no bartender until 5pm. The food menu is extensive. We had the pizza which was ok. The pizza crust taste like cardboard to me but it's a bowling alley not a full blown restaurant so I won't knock it. Lots of lanes and lots of space between them so good to enjoy for events. There is an arcade as well for the kids. Lots of things to do and lots of things to blow the time for the week or weekend so give it a try. read more

We came in to bowl, and there were 2 people ahead of us with NO ONE at the front counter. I had to ask a passing employee if he could get someone. We ordered pizza, and were given a lager. After 30 minutes of waiting and the pager not going off, we went to the food counter where one employee had her head in her hands in the counter-it was OBVIOUS they didn't want to be there. Turns out our pizzas were sitting in the warmer! Pager never went off and we had to practically BEG her to get what we paid for! She handed me a small green cafeteria tray with TWO pizzas and plates on it; I asked if I could get some cups for the TWO PITCHERS of Dr. Pepper we got, and she pointed at a stack of cups and said "they're right there" and then turned her back on me. Another man was beside me trying to refill his pitcher, and they never even acknowledged him! He finally spoke up and asked if he could get a refill, and one of the other rude girls said flatly "it's $6.50". My family is here from Texas working, and the people in this this state should be ASHAMED of themselves for the lack of customer service and common courtesy. The establishment was pretty clean but I didn't use the bathroom. The nachos were amazing! My husband wanted to "split" them with me by offering me half his fries. You do not get any refills on drinks which is always a downer. The food came out pretty fast. My husband got the burger meal. He spent the rest of the day complaining about a stomach ache. While he was eating it is said it tasted a bit funny. I wouldn't suggest getting the burger. The rest of us got the hotdogs. I didn't realize they all came with chips or else I wouldn't have gotten the extra small fries for the kids to split. There is a soda machine right next to the concession. Are you apprehensive about renting bowling shoes? Well, we're in the same boat! I even bring a second pair of socks, so I can change right out of the ones I wore during bowling. The shoes here are in good condition and seem like very high quality. Birthday parties here are super fun and have a well-managed party staff. My daughter arrived for a party; a party host took her shoe size and brought her bowling shoes, so we completely bypassed the counter altogether. We had a designated lane for our party, snacks and party punch were readily available. Oh, and the punch dispenser was quite unique; you'll have to see it for yourself. Beware of the popcorn; it's extremely addicting. The pizza on the other hand is not fabulous, but they are not a pizza place; it's not "All Star Pizza". Plus, each child received an arcade card to play some games. I am sure there are different packages for parties, but totally worth checking out! As far as bowling alleys go, this is the best one in town. It's clean and neat. The staff takes pride in their work and it shows. Lots of lanes and a big arcade for the kids of all ages. Plenty of TV's for all the big games. A nice lounge area with beer and drinks. A snack bar and pro-shop for all you equipment needs. Great entertainment for a date or the whole family. Great place for the family! We did the family bowl package which was 2hrs of bowling, popcorn, pitcher of soda and free shoes all for $48. We also ordered the nachos which weren't much to brag about (chips and nacho cheese, jalapeños upon request) but the chips were fresh not stale. The staff were nice and helpful. A good friend of mine bowls at all star bowling on airline highway in Baton Rouge. This is a very nice and large facility, however, on December 28,2017, in the evening when the lanes were slightly crowded, she saw a man lift a bowling ball and throw it with two hands as if it was a basketball - several in her group saw this man repeat throwing the ball from a standing position and it hit a computer scoring screen . She and members of her team reported the man to someone, and nothing was done to make him stop this overhand bowling ball throwing the ball- So, she got out her cell phone and recorded this ridiculous behavior and posted the video to her Facebook page. The person she reported this to simply laughed and ignored their requests that he stop tossing the bowling ball. Her worry was the ball could have gone awry and injured someone. I saw the video and quite a number of people were bowling ; the man is tall and the bowling ball was thrown in an upward motion, and the video is on Facebook .. and I saved it to share here. This type of behavior should not be tolerated at any bowling alley , A facility is no better then the management . read more

I'm going to be completely honest. This was much a better spot when it was called "DON CARTERS". But now the staff there is awful. I bought a pitcher of beer for $12.50 and my buddy and I drank half. I went outside for a smoke and when I came back, one of the employees threw the leftover half of the pitcher away. That's like slapping God across the face for throwing away at least $7 worth of beer. Hopefully they can replace the staff and remodel the place that's been looking the same for over 20 years. This bowling alley is getting some small updates such as the score machines. The bathrooms need a overhaul. Unfortunately every time we come either the floor or tables are dirty. This bowling alley was adequate at best for being family friendly. Went during the the rainy days we've been having and decided to take up on the bowl for a hour. The shoes were a size bigger than their numbers and they were quite old. The staff seemed to be young high schoolers and didn't have much customer service experience but did a decent job making sure to meet the needs and answer questions. The restrooms were kept fairly clean. As for the bowling. Couldn't find many balls for the children to use. The system seems to be quite dated compared to other bowling alleys. However the system still works great and didn't seem to glitch at all during my full hour of bowling. Overall the family atmosphere has improved with their no smoking policy and upgraded arcade room which ( some do not work so be prepared to lose money on some games). But for the rainy weathers its a good place to kill some time. read more

I've been coming here for years, use to bowl league here and just come out with friends often. The specials after 9PM Mon-Thurs are real good and cheap. Size of the place has always been good to, it can accommodate a lot of people although sometimes the wait can be long. Reason for 3 stars is merely because of cleanliness and atmosphere, desperate remodel needed. When you look at the vents on the ceiling they all are displeasing to look at, some of the ceiling tiles above the lanes are buckled, and above all just really outdated.
