Great place to cool off on the Georgetown Courthouse Square. Your smaller kids will love the toys, old fashioned candy and tasty ice cream, especially on Texas hot summer days. A little bit of a pilgrimage to get there from I35. The parking is a little tight on weekends. The staff are really friendly and helpful. I highly recommend trying the ice creams, with waffle cones. It's not Bluebell Creamery, but they are very good. I recommend this as a nice rest stop to get out of the heat and recover. read more

This is, hands down, the best toy store in the area. I know that I'll never leave this store empty handed... I don't mind that, because they only carry high quality brands and toys that do not require batteries. If you are a Montessori or Waldorf home, this is the place for you! The toy selection is pretty good but the people that work here are not that friendly. They were both on their phones behind the register while there were many customers in the store which is a huge pet peeve of mine. When I asked if they carried a particular toy she told me that they did not and then went on to tell me how outrageously expensive that toy is...(mind you she had the price totally wrong which I know because I have purchased it from Terra Toys before.) But it's besides the point...perhaps some customers are okay paying a little more for quality toys. She made me feel bad for wanting to buy a nice toy for my child. As we walked out of the store, my son even said, "that was a pretty cool store but the lady wasn't that nice." Agreed! read more

I don't have kids. I do know an amazing kids store when I see one though. A friend and I were walking around the Georgetown square when we headed into this wonderful store. Very quickly we began a lengthy conversation with one of the owners, a delightful woman, originally from England. Turns out her husband is from Germany but they are now in Georgetown. What a coup for the square. The toys here reflect a more Eurocentric outlook. Simply put, there are no cheap, Chinese plastic heaps of crap here. No dumbing down, worthless junk. Instead, all the toys are solid, well built and will last a lifetime. In other words, hand me downs, not future landfill consignees. The emphasis seems to be on fun and learning...sad, but it seems in this day and age that's a novel concept. All the various sets have a sign notating their country of origin. Germany and Switzerland seem to be the most popular countries of manufacture, but there were also toys made in the U.S.A., England, Latvia, etc. It seemed as if many of the toys were made from wood, and crafted with great detail. I could see many future engineers starting out here. Along one wall were great children's books. Actually if I remember correctly, they were the top 100 children's books. Old and new were on that wall; classics like the Polar Express, to books my Mom used to read to me when I was but a wee little terror. They also offer all kinds of classes during the summer, and the back part of the room appeared to be rented out for a party when I was there. So if you have a kid, please do them, yourself, the world, and me a favor. Turn off the TV, throw down that candy, and bring them to this wonderful store. The owners tapped into something all too rare today; quality, fun, and learning, all bundled into one package. Oh yeah, it does not hurt that there is a great music store next door ( instruments, strings, banjos, etc. ) and a kick ass coffee shop about 100 feet away ( their toddy coffee rocks ). read more

Two stars for the great selection of toys and books. My kids really love exploring new places and I love supporting local and small businesses. However, we've been to this store several times this past year and each time we experience less than courteous service. I've come in by myself, with my kids, with my fiancé, and with all 4 of us and each time we get treated like we shouldn't even be in the store. Like we're beneath the expectations of what they want in a customer. My fiancé went in on his own and said he was treated well. I didn't believe him since I've continually had bad service, but my kids love the store so we keep going. So we went with him and sure enough, he was treated very well. When I asked a question, I had the associate talking to me in a snooty voice and an attitude that implied I wasn't smart enough to comprehend her answer to my question. After that, I decided never to step foot in that store again. Out of all the places we've shopped in the square, I've never been treated like I wasn't good enough to shop there or not even given common courtesies like saying hello or receiving a smile. It was like the scene from Pretty Woman when the snotty shop ladies told her they didn't have anything to sell her. Cue sad music... read more

What an incredibly cool place! It's like walking into an old time toy store off of a little main street in a small town. The toys are amazing. Expensive! But family heirloom quality. These are the toys you keep to pass on to your grandchildren. We paid the $5 to play in the little back room with all of the toys. What a fantastic idea! And you can play all day, even if you leave and come back (with receipt, of course). We had train tracks sprawled across the play area, puzzles, blocks, cars, wooden construction trucks . . . can you tell this was a boy's paradise? Not that girls can't enjoy as well, but most of the toys in this area are building toys, engineering toys, figuring out how things work toys. Not a whole lot of make believe or dolls. . . While we were there the room was 90% boys. I appreciated that there was one employee who helped show the kids how the toys works and sat on the floor and played with them. She wasn't a babysitter, but she was able to help out with any issues that popped up. I can't wait to go back and browse the toys for sale a little more thoroughly. read more

Tonight while visiting All Things Kids, and talking with one of the employees, the owner of the store approached my friend and I in a very unprofessional and disrespectful manner. Asking why we were there. As well as reprimanding the employee for conversating with us. It was uncalled for and if they talk like that to costumers it makes me wonder how they treat their employees. It's unfortunate because it's a nice store, but I will not be returning. Hopefully no one else gets treated poorly as a local business supporter or employee. read more

This is the kind of place I really like writing a review for. I like just about everything about them. I like their store (brightly lit, clever merchandise, great books), I like their philosophy (handmade, American, etc). I LOVE their location (right on the Square -- awesome!), and I like them: hardworking mom and pop dreamers, living the dream and making it happen! Blood, sweat, tears. I really like that this is a locally owned one-of-a-kind place that is not trying to be like anyone else. Quality, thoughtful, hand crafted toys. Hardly any of that plastic junk the big boxes sell. BUT .... And here's why 4 stars and not 5: while they totally dominate the 0-to-5 year old set, to be really excellent I feel like that need to expand their offers to older kids. Maybe not all the way to teens (they are all about video games), but how about less than 13, but more than 5? To be fair, they DO have stuff for older kids, just way more for smaller ones. All in all, it's an AWESOME store, and getting better all the time! If you've got little ones, you owe to yourself AND them to check them out! read more

Very nice toy store. A little overly priced on certain items. Example is they charge $103 for the EzyRoller where a toy store in Plugerville charges $99 for it. They have some really cool wooden toys. Theybalso have Frozen wall art that I know my little princess will like one day. Very spacious to shop and look around. They also have some cool four wheeled pedal cars. But for the price of them I would rather get my kids a power wheel car. They do have a great selection of childrens books here. Definitely a store you need to check out when you shopping at the square. read more

We took our daughter here today as a Kindergarden graduation present. She loved it and I thought it was really nice here. What I thought was best was the way that every toy seemed hand selected for its quality and general awesomeness. It is fairly pricy, every book for example is at full MSRP. I know we have been spoiled in this day and age with the pricing at B&N and Amazon, but it's still hard to stomach $25 for a book you can get for 12 online. But if you are going for a really tailored experience for you and your little ones and you value the atmosphere of a toy/candy shop, this place is for you. read more

Have had a not kid friendly experience here before so we typically try to go when kids are not with us - which is a shame since it is a kid's toy store. Anyway, I decided to go in today with my 2 boys, sister and her daughter, and my parents to show them the store and buy a few toys. My 13 year old son approached the counter and asked the associate, "Ma'am, do you have any poppers." She pointed in a direction, he moved near and she said harshly, "Open your eyes. They're right in front of you." It was unnecessarily sarcastic and rude to a child who had asked politely. My sister was appalled and said, "Really? Wow." Associate did not budge or apologize. Needless to say we promptly left. I will never understand adults not modeling professional and kind behavior, once again in a store that should cater to imagination, creativity and the love of kids. read more

We first saw this place nearly 2 years ago when my wife was pregnant with our first child. What a magical place. This is by far the coolest toy store I have ever been to. The first time we walked in, it was like walking in to a different place and time. A simpler time when well made toys were designed to last a lifetime. There was minimal cheap, crappy toys . And almost no plastic. Everything was wood and metal and awesome! Most of their stuff is from overseas, but I don't mean China. These are nice toys that kids in Europe play with. It's ridiculous how crappy American toys are in comparison. Don't get me wrong, there is some solid wood made in USA stuff there. The atmosphere is friendly and the business is really geared towards kids. They want kids to come in and play even, but not in the displays up front. There is an open room, $5 an hour to play with a ton of really awesome toys. I honestly can't wait till my son is just a little older. They even have a play supervisor that helps keep some semblance of order. It really looks like so much fun. The best part of this place is that it is so easy to find nice gifts for family and friends here. Things that you are proud to give the people you love. I just love this charming little shop in Old Town. The doors are almost always open and the welcoming smell of waffle cones pull you inside. The toys are really good quality, and educations. (in answer to the comment below by LIZ A) I went into this store for the first time a couple weeks ago to buy a gift for my new born neice after being told by a friend of mine that the store had good quality sturdy toys. This excited me a lot more than the prospect of shopping in a large chain that only has platic stuff that makes bunches of noise! What an awesome store!! Some of it reminded me of toys I had when I was a kid. Some of the toys were more pricy than some other places, but that's because the quality was great! There was a good selection of lower priced items also, just so you know. I signed up on their face book page to keep up with the latest, I heard that they have summer camps and occasional special guests also. I chatted to a couple people on face book to see what they had thought of their summer camps. A lady who frequents there told me about a comment posted on here by a lady who was upset at how her kids had been treated... See comment posted below by Liz A. I knew exactly what she was talking about as I WAS THERE! I'm not normally the type of person to feel moved enough to start an agrument...however; let me explain what I saw.. The 5 kids were not just 'playing' with the toys, they were taking boxes down off of the shelves and emptying the toys onto the floor. The toys on the displays were being pulled down and then I saw one of the smaller kids putting soft toys in their mouth. The parents did absolutely nothing. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not buy a toy for my kid that has been druled on by someone elses! I saw other kids looking at the toys and checking them out before buying, not sure I recall the owners saying anything to that though. So I guess that means it's generally ok to check out the toys, just not by chew testing them! I'm curious if Liz allows her 5 kids to go into Walmart, pull stuff out the boxes and chew on them. I'm thinking that if you allowed your kids to wipe new toys across the floor and chewed on them in most stores, you would probably be asked to get out or be asked to purchase the now damaged goods. I found my way to this store in search of the currently elusive Goldie Blox toy/game. I had gone to the manufacturer's site and was calling stores one by one in the Central Texas area and no one seemed to have it. I called All Things Kids this morning, and not only did they have it, but they had eight (I almost shouted "I'll take eight!" in my best Zoidberg impression, but strangers often don't get my humor). I told them I would come by later in the day and pick one up and headed on my way there. One thing to keep in mind if you are coming from Austin is that if you are not paying attention to the route that Google Maps gives you, you may be tempted to exit IH35 north at University where Ikea is. That is the wrong University exit to take. You need to progress farther north to Georgetown and take the University exit there. Further, Google maps tells you to turn south onto Main street from University, but you will need to go north, towards the courthouse (easily visible with a dark dome and a man on top). All Things Kids is on the east side of the street as you head north on Main. Back to my review, though. On my way to the store, I stopped to call them again because Google was telling me I was there and I didn't see the store. They patiently gave me great directions to the store, and I arrived there a few minutes later. Karen, whom I believe is the proprietor, and her son were there, and it turns out she was kind enough to set aside one of the Goldie Blox sets for me, even though I hadn't asked for it. The store itself has a great layout, and if I hadn't been in such a hurry to get my item and hit the road to get to a 5 year old's birthday party in Houston, I could have easily spent an hour perusing the shelves at all the great stuff. As an aside regarding some of the notes about pricing, the set I bought was $29.99+tax (note this is the standard retail cost for this product). Not cheap, but it is a brand new toy to market and they could easily command a premium for this item given its scarcity. They did not and I appreciate that. I don't normally leave reviews of businesses. Partly (mostly) because I'm lazy and when I remember to leave a review, I'm not near a computer, but at All Things Kids, they treated me quite well, made for a great shopping experience and were just all around nice, so I made a point of leaving a review for them as soon as I found myself near an internet connected keyboard, laziness be damned. I brought my kids in to find out what they wanted for their birthdays that are coming up soon. My husband was waiting right outside to take them to another store once I knew what they wanted so that I could go back in and buy the toys. As we were walking out a male employee picked up the toy that my daughter had just put down and walks up to me with it and proceeds to question me saying something was wrong with it as if my daughter had messed it up somehow! This was one of the toys I was coming right back in to purchase for her and she was standing right there. So, instead of coming back in to purchase it and some other items I left embarrassed and livid. Service matters more than anything. They could have had a loyal customer but I was treated so poorly that I will not come back. read more

This store is absolutely adorable! I love that all of the toys are made of wood. It just reminds me of the toys I had growing up. I walked in here one day on my lunch break because I was exploring the square. And I ended up leaving with a toy for my kids to share. The woman working the counter was very friendly and offered a military discount because she saw my ID. (I did not ask for the discount) This to me is a huge plus! Will defiantly return. read more

This is a basic, no frills Euro toys store. We were downtown Georgetown and thought we'd stop by. The (male) employee was a total jerk. Apparently unless you're willing to pay the $5 to let your kid go back in the play room thingy they don't want kids touching anything. What toy store doesn't allow kids to look at and handle the toys!? I have to PAY to see if my kid likes something instead of letting them tinker with the display? Seriously? My kids (5 of them) all had toys in hand. After the 2nd time the twerpy employee got his liederhosen in a twist because one of my very well behaved kids dared to touch a toy (on display in a toy store for Pete's sake) we put everything back and left. Not without argumentative parting commentary from Ser Grouchy who apparently was stunned that poor customer service results in customers refusing go spend money in his store. We won't be back. If you want to visit a cool, friendly toy store travel down the road just a bit to Kaleidoscope in Round Rock. They have a MUCH better selection, better prices and in the 13+ years we've been going there, my kids have NEVER been told not to touch a toy. To sum it up, All Things Kids is obviously an oxymoron of a store name. read more

I can't speak highly enough about this place. We've had two birthday parties in the Play Zone at All Things Kids and both times Karen took care of us from beginning to end. Every. Single. Detail. AND for far less than I could ever imagine to do it myself at home or anywhere else for that matter. It's clear she loves what she does and passes that enthusiasm on to her customers.
