They expected an 88-year-old woman with severe balance issues to get up and walk around unsupported, completely disregarding basic safety and patient dignity. ​Inappropriate Treatment During Procedures: While I briefly stepped away, my mother was treated poorly during a blood draw, experiencing repeated punctures and ignored pain. Fortunately, a visitor in the room intervened and instructed staff to stop. The staff's reaction was unprofessional. When I returned, it was clear that this type of treatment would not be tolerated. ​Inefficient Discharge and Insurance Procedures: Upon discharge, a nurse named Madina attempted to delay her release for another 24 hours due to uncompleted discharge paperwork. The priority seemed focused on administrative delays rather than patient health, and proper action was only taken after I threatened to contact Patient Relations. ​Lack of Standard Discharge Protocols: In comparison to other major hospitals where discharge includes a proper handoff, safe removal of IVs, and a wheelchair for a dignified exit, our experience here lacked basic class and training. I had to physically demand a wheelchair to ensure she could leave safely. ​Poor Facility Conditions: The physical condition of the floor matches the poor standards of the staff. There was visible filth, garbage overflowing from bags into the open, and neglected bathrooms that appeared not to have been cleaned properly in a long time. ​Bright Spots: Despite these severe issues, I want to highlight a few individuals who stood out: Nurse Justin showed genuine compassion and is a credit to the field. Arena, Sonia, and Nelly were also decent. However, other staff members were unprofessional, and I intend to follow up with Patient Relations regarding their names. ​Conclusion: Maimonides management currently lacks adequate control and standards on this floor. To resolve poor communication and coordination, leadership must hold mandatory team meetings to set clear expectations, define roles, and establish daily check-ins. I do not want any other family to go through this experience. Until leadership cleans up this floor and holds staff accountable, I would advise others to keep their family members away from the 10th Avenue 5th-floor facility.

Why put a person through paying co-pays, billing his insurance at very high rates, making him patiently cooperate with monitoring devices and all kinds of testing if the diagnostic report is all "manufactured lies"? I'm still giving another chance by coming back, I come back for my results. "Dr" Yana leaves the door open to give me my results from my blood work. I asked her can we close the door and she says, you can close it. While I'm in the waiting room, another patient is cursing her out because she was so rude to him and extremely unprofessional. When I finally got to see Dr. Daynedo (I wasn't sure who my appointment was even with), she asked me a bunch of questions I'd already answered on the intake form, complained about her sprained ankle, took five minutes to individually check off boxes for blood tests, and repeatedly warned me that I shouldn't smoke while taking birth control pills (I've never smoked in my life). She asked zero questions about my health, habits or concerns. My "physical" amounted to a desultory breast exam. She gave me zero guidance about birth control options. I ended up suggesting my own birth control pill prescription. I was then sent for an EKG (? Not usually part of a physical but okay... I insisted they check that it was covered by my insurance because it felt like test-loading). The sweet young nursing assistants weren't sure how to operate the equipment, which kept falling off. They ran the test three times and then I had to wait some more for the doctor to tell me, in broken heavily accented English, what I already know about my heart. There were no paper towels in the rest room. The walls had stains. I would put the facility and care quality at just slightly better than what I experienced in Ghana in 2003. THEN a week later I got a call at 5 pm on the Friday of a holiday weekend-- my test results were "abnormal" and the doctor wanted to see me. Oh HELL no. But talking to someone who can actually help me is proving all but impossible. So now I'm weighing whether I just wait until January to see a new provider and forget the test results and this whole experience. Never again. Nobody in the United States should be subjected to care this poor.
