The dealership told me they'd have to replace the transmission, which was going to cost me upwards of $3,400. This is never something you want to hear out of nowhere. Fortunately, someone at Art's Automotive pointed me in the direction of Wilf's. Wilf's had a look at my car, confirmed the same problem the dealership found, and said they could just replace the stepper motor for about $1,200. I was more than willing to give that a try, especially given the great reviews here. They had to source the stepper motor, and it sounds like it wasn't easy to track it down, but they kept me in the loop with what was going on and when they'd expect it to arrive. My car was running well enough to keep going in the meantime; it was more of a question of inevitable failure at some point. When the day came for the operation, they let me have a courtesy car. Everything went smoothly, right on schedule, and my Versa has been humming along as well as before. Everyone I spoke with at Wilf's was pleasant, intelligent, courteous, and even fun to deal with. I got the sense they were honest and doing their best at all times. I hope not to need them again, but if any other transmission issues come up in the future, I know where I'm headed.

This review is long overdue - Stan's Transmission ruined my car! These guys should not be in…read morebusiness! In March 2021, I took my (almost) classic VW Golf here, as I had read the many good reviews. I am sorry I listened to them. I was greeted by two gentlemen, one older and one younger (who recognized my car from his previous employment at Wilf's). He was all excited to see my car and an overhaul of my transmission was recommended (incl. taxes $3,900). My transmission had a minor leak and I wanted to be proactive rather than running into major trouble later. After the first repair, the leak was not fully fixed and I had to return a second time. Here, I should mention that my car was hardly used from 2019-2021 and was always (and still is) kept in the garage. My car has been taken care of, hand-washed, polished and pampered since I bought it back in 2000. It has been getting lots of attention wherever I go, as it still looks good for its age, and (before the 2nd repair) still smelled fresh. My A/C was in excellent working condition (I used it when driving to the shop) --- all this was about to change after I took it back for the 2nd repair. Stan's had my car for a few days and when I went to pick it up, the windows were wide open (they said because of the hot weather, they didn't want to cause anything to crack, i.e. dashboard) and I had yellow dust all over the black seats and dash. The A/C was blowing hot air only and literally bits of manure were flying through the vents. The A/C was not functioning any longer. When I mentioned all this to the two fellows in the office, the older one said that this is normal that dirt comes through the vents (EXCUSE ME ... but I have had my car for over 20 years and I never had foam bits and manure flying through the vents --- the air intake has filters!!! --- I don't know what kind of car he is driving!!!). With this kind of response, I was never going to go back to this place. The issue with the leak was also not fully fixed, but now, on top of it all, I had to get a new A/C ($1,500 later ...) - and the smell, it never fully left my car. So each time I get into my vehicle, I am being reminded of this dreadful day I got taken for a ride at Stan's Transmission. NEVER AGAIN will I set foot in this shop! They are the worst!

I took my beloved 2017 Ram 3500 to Barrett based on reading their reviews. I noticed when I picked the truck up that the water and fuel light was on and I thought that was a strange coincidence. Over the years this light has come on two or three times after a car wash, and it's an easy fix to clean out the water in the sensor connection. I did that and even replaced the sensor in the rear fuel water separator. The light was still on, even though the fuel looked clean, so I ended up taking it to a shop in Oak Harbor before driving to the Tetons, as that light was bothering me. It turns out the technician at Barrett had inadvertently pinched some wires that ran along the crossmember below the transmission mount when he reattached the cross number. Thus the cause of the water and fuel light. Barrett was extremely honorable and covered the cost of those wire repairs, and the shops diagnostic fee. So the only thing I was out was the cost of a water and fuel sensor and time. At the time of this post, the truck has nearly 832,000 miles as I just did a trip to Teton Valley and back to Washington and the transmission ran beautifully. The service work the technician did was otherwise perfect and this type of mistake could happen to anyone, so I do not fault Barrett and I would gladly use them again and intend to. The fact that they honored this situation without question is an indication of a shop that has integrity.

Mark assured me that they'll take an assessment of the issue and get back to me before doing any work. Later in the day I received a phone call from Mark. He shared with me the red fluid was not tranny fluid, however, the specialized coolant my duramax requires. He went on to describe that all fluid levels were appropriate and the tranny and transfer case were in fine shape. Despite feeling a bit embarrassed about not differentiating the difference between the tranny vs coolant fluids, I was extremely grateful that they did not take advantage of me and, instead, went on to show me where the issued was. Such honesty goes a long way these days. Based upon numerous recommendations from mechanics I trust and respect, and Barrett transmission's honesty (and the time they took to further investigate and show me the issue)., I'll be back with any transmission issues or maintenance needs that I might have. Thank you Mark and Cameron (the tech) for your professional and honest assistance. Charlie D, Ferndale
