I used instaMek for a pre-purchase inspection on two vehicles. Scheduling was a disorganized mess, although I was eventually able to get them to the right place at the right time. The inspection was fairly cursory, something you could easily do yourself by buying an OBD-II reader for less than the price instaMek charges. On one of the cars, on taking it for a test drive, I immediately noticed that the car had a rough idle and power delivery was wonky (it turns out the car needed new spark plugs) and, when I turned the A/C on, it smelled incredibly bad (the car needed a new cabin air filter and some disinfectant on the evap coils). instaMek brags about having a "147-point inspection" but, apparently, none of the points involve just using your senses to see how the car is doing and then applying a bit of common sense, e.g., listening to the engine or smelling air coming out of the vents. If you know a "car person", bringing them along on a test drive is probably going to be more thorough. Alternately, you could take the car you're thinking of buying to a good, independent, mechanic. read more

CAN NO LONGER RECOMMEND!!! Another company that has gone down the drain. First red flag is that the company has had no growth or expansion in the last 5 years, their customer service has gone downhill and their new mechanic is a joke. Jack used to show up, rain or shine, on time and get the job done. First off, their customer service is abysmal, I was on the phone with him for 10 min as he hemmed and hawed an appointment time, trying to squeeze my appointment in on Friday and said they may have to reschedule. Get a text that the mechanic is sick and they have to rebook, so I rebook for Monday, get a message over the weekend that due to "unforeseen circumstances" they have to rebook. I stated they already re-booked once and gave my availability, to which they said they would in fact keep the appointment. Monday comes and it's supposed to maybe rain, they ask if I have a covered area, which they have never asked before, to which I said no, and they said they'll "keep an eye" on the weather and may have to re-book. Well, it didn't rain all day in Richmond yet their mechanic Ali was a no show. When speaking to them I expressed how unprofessional it is to not show up for appointments and there has never been a problem with no cover before because THEY HAVE CANOPIES TO WORK UNDER!!!! THIS IS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST!!! A RAINFOREST!!! I'm sorry, your business model is to cancel your appointments every time there is a light shower?!? I'm not parked on a river. A canopy, if it was raining which it wasn't, is more than enough protection for an oil change and tire rotation. People don't have all day everyday to wait around for you because you are a diva that can't stand the touch of water. Not to mention I have been a Prime member for years and this is how they treated me, no follow up after I cancelled the appointment all together to even try to keep their customer. Beyond unprofessional, this business may have a year or two left before they fold, don't waste your time or money on this company. Was a bit apprehensive as there was an initial $175 diagnostic fee. It turned out it wasn't a very serious issue so they fixed it on the spot, in just over an hour total. So the total repair was just the diagnostic fee, and wipers are as good as new. Very convenient as they come to you, and solid communication with notices of when they're on their way. Had a small problem that needed to be fixed on my Honda 04. Mohammed came the same day I texted and braves below freezing weather to finish the job. All my joints and bolts were frozen solid, adding on a few extra hours of work. But I wasn't charged anything on top of my original quote. Very happy with the professionalism and overall experience. Incredibly happy with the service! My mechanic Hensen was right on time, very friendly, showed me everything he was doing and explained it all. He was able to give me a semi-permanent fix for my transmission cable issue (in order to fully fix the issue it will need to go to a shop and be lifted), and since it wasn't a 100% permanent fix, there was no additional cost past the inspection fee, and the office called me back and gave me a credit with them for my next service! I would definitely recommend these guys to anyone that asks for a mobile mechanic, and I'll definitely be using them again! read more

I booked Instamek a few days in advance on their website booking system for a pre-purchase car inspection. I had tried to call their number a few times but couldn't get through. The online booking went through successfully. I then arranged for seller to be present during the inspection and made arrangements to deal with the insurance purchase and transfer details - everything was all lined up. On the Friday before the inspection (which was to be on Saturday) Instamek called me and said that something had gone wrong with their online booking system and they did not have a mechanic available. I asked them why even have an online booking system if it doesn't work? They agreed that their booking system was faulty and needed to be fixed but, I was left without an appointment with everything else lines up. I had to frantically phone around and find another mobile mechanic, all while trying to work. Very frustrating indeed. read more

Um. Wow. My car's driveshaft snapped in two right outside my place and I panicked because it's my only way to work, I googled as one would, found InstaMek, called and got all the info and Mohummed was at my place within a few hours. I was apprehensive about the %175 diagnostic/call out fee too but cheaper than getting your car towed on top of having to pay for everything at a mechanic. Mohummed needed a few days to gather the parts after his diagnostic and when the day came, he was done in under 6 hours. He was so polite, suggested the membership plan which meant the work ended up being cheaper if I bought a membership because it saved on so much. He also fixed my broken door lock, got me another set of keys and let me know my break pads were non existent and got me knew ones of those too. He was so sweet, friendly, fast, extremely knowledgeable and quite funny. 10/10 for the whole service and experience! read more

Fantastic professional top notch service! Was buying a used car in a private sale, and wanted to have the car checked by a mechanic. But the owners of the car lived an hour away, and the car wasn't registered/insured. The logistics of getting the car to a service center were too complicated. I found instaMek's service online, they go to the location of the car and do a pre-purchase service. I didn't even have to be there, they would email me a report and call me to discuss it. They did just that the same day! The people I spoke to during booking and on the after-inspection call were both super friendly and incredibly helpful! The mechanic showed up on time and the car owners said he was very friendly and professional. The report came to me immediately after the inspection and the call very soon after that! The report was thorough and they even made notes on the specific things I'd asked them to pay particular attention to. The cost was extremely reasonable as well!
