I toured nearly every San Francisco and Marin facility, and I have a spreadsheet to prove it. I was…read moremoving my parents to the Bay Area, and we needed assisted living for people with memory issues who do not meet the threshold for memory care. Also, both of my parents had been dramatically declining for a couple of months, so we needed to act fast to get them new doctors with weekly appointments and consistent caregiving. Aegis Corte Madera is the right place for them. An excellent UCSF doctor visits the community every Tuesday, and she has improved my parents' medical care. She works closely with the nurses onsite, so there is clear communication and implementation. Both parents made trips to Marin Health (hospital), so it was not an overnight success, but their health has stabilized. I have faith in their medical care, and they are in better shape than when they lived in their home. The management is exceptionally welcoming. They made my parents feel like they belonged right away. The GM buddied up to my dad to make him comfortable. The nurses and caregivers display a lot of care and even affection, which helped my mom adapt. The management staff is deeply invested in each individual and will do whatever it takes to settle people into the community. The cost is high, and the entrance/community fee is too high. However, I could not find another option offering medical support, very comfortable living spaces, a sunny apartment with views of the Marin ridgelines, and lively community activities. When I looked at my spreadsheet, the monthly costs for almost all the facilities were very close. I bit the bullet and paid the higher community fee, and we've had an excellent outcome. I recommend Aegis.

They love when I bring our pets to visit and it really feels like a family atmosphere. The communication is good and getting better all the time with the new General Manager. What I feel is most important, is that the most of the staff has been there for over five years. That really says something about the company. The activities are really great. They include weekly field trips which include beaches, symphonies, and baseball games. Ever day there is a schedule of wonderful classes from exercise to poker! Everyone has been warm, friendly, helpful, and most of all they have been attentive to all of our needs.

I wanted to add my 5 star review for Alexis Guy Brandon, as well. She has been the mainstay of my…read moremother's care within Hampton Health for many years. Alexis is on top of it to an extent I've never experienced before. She's extremely knowledgeable and what she doesn't know she will find out - in a heartbeat. She makes herself available to her patients and their families, giving them a comfort and security. She is collaborative in her approach which I find very important, since aging and decline brings constant change that needs to be managed. My mother and I are very appreciative for her capability, compassion and loving care over these years.

To say that she has been a godsend isn't an overstatement. She is the most competent, compassionate and thorough health-care professional I have ever had the pleasure to work with. She cared for my father as if he were family, and constantly kept my brother and me apprised of his changing health issues. When we had questions or concerns, she always responded promptly, even when she was out of the office or home with her baby. Her dedication to her patients is admirable indeed! I know my father, brother and I will miss her now that she is no longer with Hampton Health. And I have no doubt that future patients will be equally fortunate to have Alexis advocate and care for them.

Watch out for overcharging! I came in to have my ears checked after I saw an ad that they placed…read moreonline for ear wax removal. I asked them specifically what the cost for this would be and was told that it's between $225 and $275 depending whether 1 or 2 ears needed to be cleaned out. The nice receptionist encouraged me to run my insurance and was convinced that I won't be charged after my $83 copayment. Once in the room, the person who saw me introduced herself with her first name giving me the impression that she was a nurse (she was a PA) and she looked for about 5 seconds in both ears each only to inform me that my ears were clear and there was just a little bit of fluid behind one of my ear drums, hence the sensation of it being clogged. That was the end of my extremely short visit, no further care was needed. To my absolute shock a few days later I was charged $575 for this visit, and ended up paying $340 out of pocket. I was furious and had several email exchanges with Carbon's billing department who refused to budge and to reduce my charges -even after the misinformation of the receptionist. I had asked specifically if I could pay out of pocket in cash and that request was declined. Since they had my payment info, they simply ran my card, and there was nothing I could do. I am telling you, you are much better of saying you have no insurance, then they allow you to pay out of pocket and at a much better price! I will never go back to Carbon in Corte Madera. We all know how expensive and broken our health care system is, but this was just so extremely overpriced and uncalled for.
