I uploaded a few before and after photos, of two of my walls but they worked on several more walls! My CMU block walls and drywall had about 50+ holes, a bunch of which were the size of my index finger, many areas of ripped drywall paper, and numerous outlet-sized drywall cutouts that I wanted patched as if they never existed. Mike came over himself, looked at the job, and gave me a price on the spot. A few weeks later he sent John over to do the work. I was on a pretty tight schedule with an upcoming move and Mike really worked around my schedule as best as he could! John was so kind and efficient, and he took care of every single hole and cut out in under 2 hours and got the walls paint ready for me (I painted the walls the following day). I was expecting the work to cost $1,500 plus easily but Mike's did it for under $600 and the quality is on point! I was really worried about the outlet sized cutouts I made for running wires, but John patched them like it was no big deal and that was such a relief! I first messaged Mike and other candidates in 2025 when I was gathering quotes for an insurance claim that ultimately got denied. It was very clear that Mike and the team have great workmanship from the photos - this is coming from someone who's seen great drywall work and extremely poor work that I could do better myself. I could tell right off the bat that these were the guys I wanted to work with. The proof was in the "mudding" as I changed scope to account for materials, budget, level 4-5 finish, and paint finish quality. Having to pay out of pocket for an expense I anticipated someone else to cover was a bit of a concern for my wallet. Mike was patient with me and we worked out a price we could agree on by removing items from the scope that might still been in good condition and limiting the amount of work that needed to be done on a bump-out wall next to my shower. John texted me soon after we agreed to move forward and scheduled the work for the following week. He also suggested a change in material (DensShield) from what I had originally requested (blueboard) and I am so grateful to have skilled/experienced teammates to work with that really know what they're doing. Day 1 was demolition, hanging, and mudding. John was finished and out before lunch and I could already tell that the quality of work was spectacular. You couldn't even tell the ceiling was repaired because it was blended in perfectly with the surrounding area. The bump-out wall was looking way better than it was even prior to the water damage. We left the fan on throughout the day and overnight to let the hot mud dry out. Day 2 was sanding, priming, and painting. Fortunately, I purchased and stored paint that was specific to my bathroom from a previous repair and had it at the ready this time around as well. Honestly, when I first discovered the leak, I originally planned to fix it myself so I also had a brand new container of primer. I'm pretty satisfied with the work, especially with the DensShield suggestion and installation in both affected areas to account for future leaks. I didn't know such product existed and the workmanship mudding a material such as DensShield and it essentially coming out nearly flawless is pretty impressive. Overall, I would give Mike's team a solid 9/10. Prompt responses, flexibility in materials/scope, and great quality of work. The quote, as some have mentioned is on the higher side compared to other candidates I'd spoken with, but I learned the last time that you get what you pay for. Could I have gotten it cheaper? 100%. Would it have come out as good? Not sure. The last guy I hired at maybe half the price got the job done, but clearly not done well and that's what got me in this predicament, SO... don't cheap out if you can help it - especially for a bathroom or high-moisture/high-risk area. I'm certain I'll be working with Mike and the team in the future and there are no regrets here as compared to my last drywall adventure. Thank you Mike & John for your patience and hard work.

After speaking to at least 8-10+ different…read morecontractors and/or handyman (who claimed to be contractors but had no license or proof to show), let's just say that the hunt to find someone trustworthy, timely and within our budget was like finding a golden needle in a haystack! Firstly, SL Construction was reasonably priced compared to others who were looking to up charge us more than double. I'm not a contractor so I can't specifically tell if the materials were vastly different to justify the difference in price etc, but what I appreciated was SL's timeliness in getting back to us asap, their really thorough follow up via email and text, and that they were legit. I also changed the scope of what exactly I wanted to do several times (adding projects, changing materials) and they were patient and more than accommodating each time. We were also able to verify all their licenses, insurance and all the stuff a contractor should have with the DCCA. Our scope of work was a few items, including: 1) repairing a rotted wood lanai, fully waterproofing, replacing the tile, and busted wood posts, and rotted wood under tile. 2) adding custom railings to 2 outdoor lanais that needed to be fitted exactly to existing metalwork. 3) completely transforming a 90s bathroom (and I changed the scope of work a few times ) 4) tiling another bathroom so it didn't give 90s ick vibes Through the process, I was able to pick my materials and work closely with them via text, email and a shared Google excel tracker as my working document so I didn't loose my mind with all the small but important details. They were incredibly easy to work with in choosing my materials from Amazon, Lowes, Home Depot and Golden Cabinets and picked all the items up. While the crew is heavily Chinese speaking only, working with their project manager, Maggie, is a dream! I will admit that sometimes the crew didn't exactly understand me, but it was super small stuff like moving a cabinet over a few inches, re-installing a faucet so the knobs were the correct way, etc. Anything that I had an issue with was easily remedied by Maggie, whom I mostly communicated with via text. In addition, I've had several "oh s*it!!" moments come up with other things in our aging home (nothing they did, but other things I've since found) and Maggie has been so quick and helpful to send out her team or try to find solutions that aren't gonna break the bank. I really appreciate their steadfast customer service and making you feel like you aren't just a number or an invoice. Further, the team kept our house immaculate - the floor was covered each day, and nothing was left a mess or left evidence that a construction team had been there. We decided to start with electrical. I found SL by putting in a Yelp project for electrical work, and scoring because they were a general contractor and could address ALL of our needs!!! Over the past 4 months, we worked with SL to get what we wanted done, and we also added some new work because they gave us an excellent offer, managed all the work for us, and delivered excellent results. The leader, their laborers, their carpenter, their partners, and Maggie are so wonderful to work with. While waiting for permits to upgrade our meter and move our electrical line, they worked on the trench and poured concrete (hand mixing 120 bags of concrete!!!), replaced our garage roof, replaced our garage doors, removed an aluminum roof attached to the main house, and built a new roof and extended the roof line. They coordinated with HECO to upgrade our electrical service, moved our box, upgraded our electrical service, rewired our upgraded interior box, and just finished with new gutters now that the electrical line was no longer hopping from the garage to the house. They understood that I wanted things neat, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. We will now start saving for future projects, but we will look no further and will call SL as soon as we are ready to start on a new project. We are beyond lucky that we found them. I have worked with many handyman services and to be honest, most of them are good but not great. They do a decent job and sometimes they can't finish the job and then what? I have to finish it myself or hire someone else. Most of them don't return calls. You would be amazed how many don't return calls. I mean simple communication goes a long way. I didn't find Hideki, my wife did. I tried the usual Yelp searches and called a few. I filled out request forms and then never got a call back. One of them insisted that all I needed was a tool. Despite knowing the tool wouldn't work, I bought it anyway and of course the tool didn't work. In the meantime, my wife was talking to Hideki. He was a good communicator and he agreed to come by. I told him the job would be tough but he did it and he did GREAT. Now that I let you guys know about him, I hope he doesn't get so busy that he will be unavailable. But I have found the great handyman that we always knew existed but was so hard to find.
