When we needed Dr. Cohen in 2024 because our Katie needed him to check her due to she was in pain. We had to take her to a different Veterinarian. Then we called Cohen's office for a follow-up. It was supposed to be free. When he came in he had no idea why we were there. He didn't look at any of the paperwork we had. I had an exray the other Veterinarian wanted him to see. He ignored that too. He asked if we wanted to do the regular check up for her licence and heart guard meds. So we also got our 11 year old on flea and tick medicine at that time. He was very cold towards my husband and I. We had an emergency again. Katie was screaming in pain and needed attention like right now. We called again on Saturday morning to see if we could get her in. They blew us off and said we could book an appointment on Wednesday the 1st of April. So we made that appt. Sunday at 3:30 she again woke us up with screams of pain. So we took her to the hospital. They said she had brain cancer. We had to put her to rest. I called to cancel her appointment on Monday. They have still haven't called to say Condolences. In They are cold blooded. I can't believe how caring he was in 2016 when we first got Katie. She was 3 and a half years old. Today, July 18, we went to Doctor Cohen's with a friend and her elder dog. Even though she is a new patient they were able to see the pup. They were honest at the front desk explaining that they don't do emergency but would see her if we were willing to wait. More than reasonable since we didn't have an appointment. The ladies at the front desk were professional and courteous. A few minutes later another woman comes in with pretty much the same situation. A pup in need of care. Heard the ladies explain in the same way they did with us. Now this woman is asking for names and how they were rude...smh. Just because they were unable to accommodate immediately...it is ridiculous...when you go somewhere to any business outside of a scheduled appointment you can expect a wait. I'd heard for years that Dr Cohen was excellent so I decided to make an appointment for my cat Milo who was having dental problems. When we went in in mid-February, Dr Cohen took a look in Milo's mouth and just picked a dollar amount out of the air. As it was less expensive than I was quoted elsewhere, I went ahead with it. I was a little surprised that he did not do any other kind of examination, such as looking in the ears, take a temp, etc, which is what I am used to. Also no x-ray to see which teeth were the issue. A different doctor ended up doing the surgery, and when I picked Milo up, the front desk said everything was fine. A couple hours later the vet called me and said that Milo's BUN result was high and I should get him on a kidney food diet. I went into the clinic to get a prescription which they wouldn't give me, just said to order it on Chewy and they'll approve it. So I did and this caused the order to be delayed a couple of days while Chewy waiting for authorization. After about 3 weeks, Milo started crying in pain again when he ate so I took him back to be seen again. This time I was told that his remaining teeth were fine, now he is allergic to the biofilm on his teeth and to try a prescription dental food. Anyways, I buried Milo yesterday (April 7). He went into kidney failure and there was nothing to be done. My poor cat was suffering from kidney disease and all I was told was to change his diet. There was no seriousness when I was told, it was literally an afterthought. If I had known how serious it was, I could have watched for signs. There are treatments other than diet change that could have been tried. Or at least I could have known what to expect, I was literally blindsided. Other vets are more expensive but at least they've always done a thorough exam and made sure I understood what was going on with my animal. And if I knew he didn't have a lot of time left, I most likely would not have put him through the trauma of the dental extraction (he was so upset) and I wouldn't have dropped $700 on it. I would have just gotten pain medication to manage the issue. My favorite cat died. My poor baby died and I didn't know he was really sick. He suffered and I didn't know. I'm able to call and ask questions any time I have a concern, and they always accommodate both of my dogs to their individual needs. We recently got a sweet puppy (Our Micah), and we had him eight beautiful months. He was fun, loving and full of life. One morning, he started throwing up and couldn't keep food or water down. We took him immediately to Dr. Cohen's office in Deltona. We raised concerns as to whether Micah could possibly have a blockage since nothing was staying down and could he possibly be dehydrated from the throwing up or have a bacterial infection. The office visit was short with Dr. Cohen feeling his stomach and giving him some anti-nausea meds. (A blockage cannot be confirmed by simply feeling the stomach, it should be done along with an x-ray and may even require other diagnostic testing). None of that was done. The office did not do bloodwork to find out if there was an infection of some kind either. I was told by the office staff if Micah started getting diarrhea from the meds to call the office. He got diarrhea hours after giving the medication to him and I called the office with no return call. Micah and his brother were out in the yard a few days later, I called them in and Micah didn't come, immediately I knew something was wrong because he always came running to me when I called. I found him lying on the fence line unresponsive. My husband and I raced him to the ER animal hospital in Deland whose staff were compassionate and acted quickly. Come to find out, it was as we had questioned, Micah had an obstruction, he was severely dehydrated, had a bacterial infection and became septic. The ending to this heartbreaking experience is that our sweet Micah passed away as a result of Dr. Cohen not acting with enough concern and appropriate testing after hearing our questions and complaints. Needless to say, we will be finding another vet for our other sweet pup. This review is not mean to be harsh or vindictive; I just want to make others aware. Speak up and make sure you are heard, if not find someone who will listen and take your concerns seriously. I would not want to see anyone dealing with the pain we feel with the loss of our precious Micah. His life was cut too short! read more

NEVER NEVER NEVER take your animal to this clinic. I took our dog 3x to have Cohen evaluate her. Each time I asked for a culture to be completed for the rash/infection on her stomach. I also asked him to check the scabbed over area on top of her head. HE REFUSED ALL 3X TO CHECK EITHER OF THESE. I had to take her to an ER vet and the bottom line...what she had was treatable. Sadly it had reached the point where NOTHING would save her so our only option was to have her euthanized. THIS MAN CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO DO THE CORRECT THING FOR YOUR PET. I am absolutely no relation to Dr. Cohen, and I find some of the negative comments toward this veterinary practice to be fantasy. I started taking my cats here because another vet claimed one of my cats was suffering with tooth resorption, and multiple teeth would need extraction to the tune of $2,300.00. Dr. Cohen examined my cat along with his dental hygienist and found no such malady. As far as the office having an odor, I can assure you, this is untrue. I made an apptmt hoping to find a new vet as our cat needed regular check on his Inflammatory bowel disease and driving 40+ miles to our old vet Ormond was hard on the cat. I had the cat's records emailed to Dr Cohen's office and 7 days later, I called 5 hrs ahead of my apptmt to confirm that they got the records.... which they looked through old emails and found. I got to Dr Cohen's office a few minutes early and a note on the first door said "do not enter; call first; then enter at next door." I called and got voicemail; I waited a half minute (in the hot sun) and called again...got voicemail. I went to 2nd door and it said "enter if we do not answer".... geesh! I waited 20 min past my apptmt..and when Dr Cohen came in he did not have any of the records that I had confirmed that morning. He did not offer any advice on the current meds; I had to ask him when he thought it would be good to see the cat again. I am in my 70's and he looks older than me! The first time my dog drank bleach and pissed what appeared to be 100% blood, and the main vet there laughs it off like it's nothing, charges me for some antibiotics and sends me out. The 2nd time was because my dog wouldn't stop coughing, and he says he's fine and healthy, he didn't do a clear wellness examination like I asked and just charged for some antibiotics and sends him on the way. Now he doesn't stop gagging. This isn't normal and he isn't healthy. Clearly this veternarian lacks empathy for worrJed pet owners have for there animals, and I'm not satisfied at all. If you want your animal put down and hundreds of dollars in vet bills than I recommend Dr. Cohen. I brought my cat in when he broke his arm. After x-rays Dr. Cohen said there was nothing he could do and he had to put him down. I was in complete shock. I grabbed my cat and told him I had to consult my husband first. My husband made a makeshift cast out of popsicle sticks and bandages. Fluffy's arm eventually healed and we took him to another vet where he was given a clean bill of health. My friend also took her cat to Dr. Cohen after she ate something bad and was vomiting. He also told her that there was nothing he could do and the cat needed to be put down. Unfortunately, she didn't get a second opinion and put the cat down. A decision she still regrets to this day. I really believe Dr. Cohen has a sick obsession with putting animals down. When I dropped her off I was told to call between 2pm-3pm. I called at 2pm, I was told that the doctor just started the surgery & to call back at 3pm, so I did. When I called at 3pm I was told that everything went better than expected & that her uterus was inflamed but shewould be just fine & that she was recovering. I was told to pick her up at 4pm so I did. - When I got there I was brought into the back & my dog was laying on the floor with a ton towel in a small boarding/holding kennel. She was not receiving any fluids & was alone when I got there. I asked why she was so pale & cold. I was told that her color would come back within the hour & that she was cold because the floor was cold. - not once was I told she couldn't go home when I got there to get her. Not once did I demand for her to go home. - yes my husband carried her out, along with the help of the lady that I spoke to. - no she was never loaded into a truck. I don't own a car let alone a truck. She was loaded into my mother-in-law's car. - She was rushed to the animal hospital 30-45 minutes after being home. - She died from internal bleeding from faulty sutures. Not from the Pyometra. I have no reason to lie about what happened. I am very thankful for Jane's help & for Dr Cohen doing what he could. She wasn't spayed because I was misled when she was younger & was told that she was allergic to general anesthesia. I made the decision not to take the chances & risk her life. At that time I knew nothing about Pyometra. I don't rescue dogs. Should all animals be spayed/neutered? Absolutely! I can't begin to tell you how many kittens I've had to bottle feed because of stray cats not being spayed or neutered. I have gotten every single one spayed, neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped & placed in homes. Do I regret not questioning things & attempting to getting her spayed? Yes, absolutely... 1,000%! I loved Sweet... She was very well taken care of & never went without anything. I have been completely devastated from all this & all the lies aren't making things any better. I have been a complete wreck, I'm unable to eat, I've been unable to sleep, I've been crying hysterically holding her collar & a picture of her since she passed away on December 26th. read more

When my brother passed away unexpectedly three years ago I adopted his elderly dog to ensure she stayed with family. First visit Dr. Cohen was wonderful to both me and Zulu. Over the last three years he's been a huge help anytime something has come up, from arthritis to teeth cleaning. I noticed a small infection on my dogs gum, took her in and we did a biopsy. Dr Cohen called personally with the results and when I asked for his honest opinion he provided it. He and his staff have been wonderful throughout this entire experience and I am continuing going to him with my second dog I've adopted since getting Zulu. Out of the various vets in Volusia county I've been to over the years (mostly with my cats), dr Cohen has been the best in regards to price but also caring and personable. read more

MUST READ BEFORE USING COHEN VET CLINIC: I have been taking my 2 dogs & cat to Dr. Cohen since 2013. At first, I decided to overlook this vet's incompetence. For example, I paid for a teeth cleaning and when I got home, I noticed there was still very apparent tartar on multiple teeth on one side. I showed Dr. Cohen my dog's teeth the next day. Dr. Cohen's solution to this problem was to get out his instruments and try to scrape the tartar off his teeth while my dog was AWAKE! Do I really want to traumatize my dog this way? No offer of a partial refund. No offer to re-do the cleaning the correct way. Therefore, I asked Dr. Cohen if he would sell me a prescription de-wormer med for my cat who he has NEVER SEEN. Dr. Cohen agreed and sold me the prescription that day. Since then, I have paid Cohen a lot of money to treat all my pets. Last year, my cat had a swollen stomach with vomiting. I paid hundreds of dollars for tests/treatments. No results. My cat is still sick. On 6-30-18 Cohen saw my old dog and he sold me a few pills of Previcox to try for his bad arthritis/pain. Cohen said if the pills worked, he would sell me more. Cohen couldn't draw blood from my dog on a Saturday, so I came back on 7-2-18 and did the routine blood test to check basic levels and his thyroid. After reviewing the blood results, at first, Dr. Cohen told me to INCREASE my dog's thyroid meds. A few minutes later, Cohen changed his mind and advised me to keep my dog on the SAME DOSE of thyroid medication (do NOT increase the thyroid med) although my dog's blood results showed his thyroid levels were LOW (Cohen said the blood results were NOT accurate because I should have withheld giving my dog his regular daily dose of thyroid meds until AFTER the blood had been drawn). Why did I pay a lot of money to have a blood test which couldn't produce accurate results? Why didn't someone instruct me (before the blood was drawn) to delay giving my dog his regular thyroid medicine until AFTER the blood draw? My dog has suffered greatly because Dr. Cohen lacks the basic skills necessary to diagnose/treat simple conditions (arthritis/thyroid) and Cohen lacks the skills necessary to communicate with a Pet's owner. Cohen collected money for lab work and then disregarded the lab results. Cohen told me I could get a refill on the arthritis medication, and then 6 months later, I was told by the lady in the office I would NOT be given the prescription unless I paid for another office visit. The office staff then mailed me a copy of all my pet's medical records (including a deceased pet's records). I questioned this action and called to speak to Dr. Cohen to resolve the problem. However, the office staff told me Dr. Cohen would NOT return my call, and the office staff told me I could NOT be their customer any longer (the office lady told me Cohen would NOT treat ANY of my pets in the future and Cohen would NOT call me to discuss the problem). Allan Cohen is clearly incompetent as a vet AND as a business owner. If you decide to use Cohen your pet WILL SUFFER, you will be writing a bad review about Cohen's lack of basic vet skills, and Allan Cohen will be laughing all the way to the bank as he deposits your hard-earned money into his bank account. read more

BEWARE! READ BEFORE GOING HERE!!! My daughter and her husband had been taking her dogs and cat to this vet for a few years when they moved to FL, and after they moved to Orlando with myself, they continued to go to this vet after for continuity, even though it was close to a 40min drive. She said the vet was nice, he wasn't personable, but he gave basic care well, and didn't seem to be over priced. In the last few visits, she was starting to get concerned about the care as he wasn't doing full exams when they were there for an exam visit (she was trained as a vet tech), the last time she went he was looking at a blown anal gland and didn't instruct her to use a cone on him to keep him from licking it, or gave the dog anything for pain, just gave antibiotics and sent him on his way. She knew better, and did put a cone on him, but if it was anyone else, they wouldn't know any better. I took my elder cat there for anal squeezing (he has had this issue for years) and he did the job and rescheduled for 6weeks, and said to start fiber on him. That was great! It helped tremendously. The next visit though was where I found the problems. My daughter and I brought him back to check the anal glands, they were empty and I was really happy about that but he didn't use gloves! Gross! And once he was done, I just asked him one question, why my cat was drooling so bad, could it be his teeth? He looked at the teeth and said they looked good. We were in the room for less than 5 min. When we went to check out, they charged me 19.95$ for the anal squeeze, but as she was finishing up the charge, he walked by the front desk and said to charge for a re-check exam, so I had to pay another 29.99$ because I asked one question. My daughter was appalled, said she has never known a vet to be so non-personal, incompetent and over charge like that. He did not do a full exam, he didn't listen to his heart or lungs, he didn't check his ears, nothing else. How can you justify 50$ in fees for anal squeeze, 1 question and 5 min or less in an office visit? And to top it off, the unsanitary practice of not using gloves? We are looking for another vet closer to our home. read more

Just took my 95lb chicken for a chocolate lab here for his annuals not too long ago and it was excellent. The wait was long but they were also quite busy. Once we got in to see the doctor, it was clear he cared a great deal about his patients. The entire staff attempted to make friends with my dog, even though he was being his normal chicken self. Once we got into see the doctor, we were in and out quickly. The staff were excellent the entire time and it was far cheaper than my last vet as well. I would definitely recommend this vet to others and will do so, for all of my friends who move to the area in the future. read more

My mom has been using there services for the past 10 years since she moved to Florida on and off, she had tried Pine Ridge and while they were nice enough we boarded our American Eskimo and came home to find him with ticks and fleas, which he had never had as he was an indoor dog properly cared for, they proceeded to blame everyone except their ill care then had the nerve to try to charge me for a flea/tick dip. Should have disputed the charges but didn't want any issues, then came to Cohen let me tell you they are night and day, the Drs and staff here are caring and attentive and have had no issues what so ever and they are reasonably priced compared to the other vets in town. When I got there with the evidence they had already vaccinated my dog and wanted to charge me. If I could give less stars I would. My cat went missing and returned with injuries. Took him to dr. Cohen. (Who was our usual check up vet, until now) He genuinely seemed pretty unconcerned for my cat. Told me he had a slight infection and sent us on our way with antibiotics. Never took vitals, never took blood samples. So this morning it was clear something was still wrong. Took my cat to a different vet for an opinion as something was Clearly wrong. My cat is now in care at a pet hospital for blunt force trauma as they believe he was hit by a car. There is fluid in his lungs and he can not express his bladder. Dr. Cohen. Does. Not. Care. About your Pets...... take them basically Anywhere else. However I can recommend Pine Ridge Pet hospital. have been a customer of this vet for over 30 years. I took my cat in for skin allergies and a flea problem. The substitute vet (who is very good) gave my cat a shot of Kenalog for the allergies. The office charged me 38.50 for this shot. Kenalog is not an expensive medication. I called around to shop prices. I found the vet at Deltona Animal Clinic charges 12$ for the same shot, Pine Ridge Charges 15$, and Lee Road vet clinic also charges 15$. After doing some shopping I found that a 5ml multi dose vial of Kenalog from the supplier can be purchased for 18.99$. I guess I have helped pay for more than two vials and only got one shot. ridiculous pricing. When I called the office and tried to speak to someone about it I was just informed that "That's how much ive been charging since ive been here". I explained the other vets prices and was told the exact same thing again. I then asked if I should just pick up copies of my pets records and go elsewhere and I was told "that will be ok". once again I have been a customer of Dr Cohen for thirty years, and was shocked that I was treated this way. my visit for a shot of Kenalog and a topical for worming cost me a total of 103.$. was in the office no more than 10 minutes. I wonder if Dr. Cohen even has any idea how much the office is charging for his visits. I think he might want to check it out. I had a GREAT experience with a this Deltona Vet .. Took my 2 Yorkies yesterday to have their teeth cleaned. A few teeth needed to be pulled. When making the appointment I asked for an estimate for cleaning.. The receptionist said "Our prices start at $90ea." I expected everything else would be extra, such as anesthesia ... I was VERY surprised to get the total bill -- Something like $260. .. NOT EACH, but total for both dogs.
