i was surprised at the experience i had given all the good reviews. it took me calling them and talking to them in person about six or seven times before i got a time to bring my car in. then when i brought my car to them on the day they specified, they took a look at it and said "oh yeah i know how to work on this car like the back of my hand" and then asked me to come back another day, which was super frustrating. they said they would text me a date before the end of that week. two weeks go by and they still won't confirm a date (despite me calling and texting to see if there are any updates). finally they call me less than 24 hours before and ask me to bring the car in. after working on it, turns out they did a poor job in that they wired all of the sound to come out of the subwoofers in my car, not the eight other speakers that exist, so the audio system is truly screwed at the moment. oh and each time they talked to me the price changed. started out at $250, and ended paying nearly $500 even though neither my car changed nor any of the equipment from the very first time i talked to them. read more

The truth is though that I've compared prices and Allboro Custom is both super reasonable in price and does an amazing job. Here's my anecdote, I bought a '02 BMW convertible for the summer. Obviously given the age of the vehicle I needed a new head unit with more up-to date technology. From the very beginning Jack was patient in explaining the process and different options available. He quoted me a price which was super cheap and all inclusive (head unit with CarPlay/AirPlay, steering wheel controls, backup camera, and a super clean USB port). Came here to replace my busted factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. I read the other stellar reviews and trusted that I'd be in good hands here. I wasn't wrong. It's a one man operation run by Jack. Right off the bat he seemed extremely competent, confident in his work, and attentive to my needs. He explained everything with great patience, and was straight up with me about every step of the process. I had tampered with my radio on my own and ended up busting my the factory amplifier. When he told me this, he laid out the different options and being that I wasn't too familiar with the subject, I made a lot of phone calls back and forth examining different options, and changing my decision. I never got the sense he was impatient or frustrated, and outlined the most cost effective solutions rather than pushing me towards expensive options. I ended up going for a nice Sony head unit with a better amp and bypassed my broken one. Labor is reasonable considering he took it apart, put it together, and took it apart again as I changed my decision based on my options. All in all, I am a very happy customer, the sound is better than before, and 12/10 would do business with again. Highly recommend Jack. Easy access to the subway (G Train) and hours are very reasonable. I dropped it off in the morning, went to work, and could pick it up right after work. I stopped by to find out what my options were for installing a rear-view camera on my 2007 Mazda CX-7. The owner Jack gave me some good suggestions, and I purchased Pioneer AVH4200NEX receiver with a large display and a rear-view camera from Allboro. On my 2007 Mazda that only had a cd player and radio, I now have an LCD display that shows rear-view camera feed when I put the gear in reverse. I also have apple car play so I can use Apple maps, hands-free imessage/phone, music from my iphone, pandora, DVD/CD player, etc. It's definitely more features than I had anticipated when I was doing research on my own for a rearview camera. It definitely helps to talk to an expert, rather than googling for options on your own. I did have some questions about how to use the system initially, and Jack was always helpful and patient with all the questions I had even when he was busy with all the other work that was going on in his shop. I did have a minor issue with the emergency light button that didn't work quite right after the installation, and Jack took a look, ordered a new emergency light button part for me, and fixed it free of charge. He was good on his word that having purchased the system and getting it installed at Allboro, that I'll get great service. I found Jack to be knowledgeable, very skilled, friendly, responsive, and a straight talker. All signs of a good business owner who you want to take your business to. For any car accessory and custom installation, I'll be going to Allboro. I am also glad that I am supporting a neighborhood business, and only if I can find as good local mechanic as Jack is for custom installs, I'd be set. read more

I had to get my HED lights replaced and my brother took me here to get it done. I'm not even going to pretend to know anything about lights let alone their wiring however the guy there was very helpful and honest. Basically for the type of HEDs I had, he would have to rewire it some way that would need to override my ER brake light and would take a few hours to complete. He also told me the lifespan would probably be still quite limited. So basically he gave me the option to spend almost 200 bucks to get this done or revert back to regular lights for way way cheaper. I opted for the latter option since the HEDs were never a big deal for me ( they were originally installed as a gift from my bro) They offer a bunch of cool custom work but I didn't really look into that. Their customer service is on point though, so I would definitely recommend checking them out if you're considering any work done. Even a simple light change! read more

I have been driving past Allboro for years and have always seen very expensive cars being worked on in there - the first sign that Allboro does quality work. I bought an old VW bus from 1977 that was in desperate need of a stereo (it literally had a hole in the dash, no speakers, and no wiring.) Since I wanted everything to look original to the bus, I sourced a head unit and brought it together with my bus for Jack to take a look at. Jack was very communicative and texted me with photos and different wiring options throughout the process. He knew it was a holiday weekend coming up and made sure my bus would be ready in time. I ordered a full replacement of the factory radio in my 2004 Volvo with a JVC touch-screen system. Jaco added a backup camera which we love and don't know how we did without. He also sourced the right trim parts in Europe to make the installation look like it belongs next to the fake wood interior in the car. Only good things to say about Jack. He's fair honest and fun to work with and most important - knows what he's doing with car audio. He helped me build the system I was dreaming of (full sub, head unit, 5 channel amp build) with a stealth amp mount under the floor in the rear hatch. He didn't push me to spend beyond my budget and made sure I would get the most bang for the buck with what I spent. He followed through to make sure everything worked as intended. Yes, I gave Allboro 5 stars, here is why. First of all, I am a very savvy and parsimonious shopper, I also do my homework and shop around before I buy. I drive an old Nissan Pathfinder which, prior to finding Allboro Custom, had the original radio system. This meant no auxiliary input for ipods, in addition the cd player stopped working after a few discs jammed inside. Anyway, about 3 weeks ago I decided I wanted a new radio and speakers. I didn't want to spend that much money and I didn't need anything too fancy. I've had Alpine and Kenwood radios before and I liked those brands. I decided to go to 3 Car Audio shops before making my final decision. The first place I visited was on 21st in Astoria. The first thing I noticed about this place was the lack of people in the store. The man behind the counter knew little about audio systems and threw arbitrary numbers (prices) around. He was also very aggressive, he kept asking me if I wanted get the system installed "today!!" He quoted me $600 for a Kenwood radio with some BS Pioneer speakers. When I looked up the radio he wanted to install I saw it selling for $150 on amazon. I left the store on 21st knowing never to return. My next trip was to Queens Blvd in Elmhurst, Queens. This place was across the street from the Old Mets Motel (on the same block where all the demolished cars are repaired and sold with "a clean carfax"). Anyway, this Audio shop on Queens Blvd was similar to the one on 21st, meaning there were no customers!! This Asian man behind the counter could not give me prices to anything, he told me I had to see the Guyanese man instead. The Guyanese man was a bit sketchy and that's when I knew something fishy was going on. This guy asked me "how much do I want to spend?" and then goes on to tell me he could install a Pioneer Radio with 4 Pioneer speakers for "about $1000." I am very familiar with Pioneer radios because they are sold in Walmart. Like I had done at the shop on 21st, I left the shop in Queens Blvd knowing never to return. I then decided to check out Allboro. I had passed this shop many times since it's just one block away from the McGuiness avenue entrance/exit of the BQE. The first thing I noticed at Allboro were the customers, there were lots of them. On the day I visited , there was a woman talking with the owner about some work she was getting done in her car. This woman seemed cheerful and content. I also noticed a man outside of the Shop with a Ford F-150 . This man had just gotten a new radio installed in his truck and was playing with all of the radio buttons. He was very happy, he told me the radio cost him $170 with installation. The radio was very neatly installed and lit up his dashboard. While I waited to talk to the owner I also noticed a man inside the shop installing tints on a BMW X5, he was doing a superb job too. Finally my turn came to talk the man of the hour, Jack. First thing Jack asked me was what kind of car I drove and what type of system I wanted, he asked what type of music I listened to. Jack was patient and listened to me, he was not pushy or aggressive. His expertise in car audio systems was apparent early on. He deals with high end car audio and his prices are very reasonable. Jack showed me an Alpine Radio with blue tooth, aux inputs and all of the features I was looking for. I looked up this radio online and it sold for $250 on Amazon. For the radio and speakers Jack quoted me $550 with installation. I knew a good deal when I saw one so I quickly contracted with him to get this system. He was very busy and gave me a range of days on which I could bring my car for the installation. About a week later I dropped off my car in the morning and picked it up in the early evening. The day I came to pick up my car Jack was gone for a few minutes so I chatted with a brother (black guy) who was getting audio work installed on his 64 Impala. This guy told me he always went to Jack and he trusted him. Anyway, back to me, I was very happy when I saw my dashboard, the new Alpine radio was state of the art and sounded very clear. Jack installed new speakers with tweeters in the front and 6.5 speakers inside the rear passenger doors. About a week later I went back because I wanted more bass in my system. Today I got a small amp and a Hertz speaker installed and I love the bass that resonates off my leather seats. I was given the option of an Alpine Amp and Two Kicker Speakers for the same price of a high end Amp with a solo Hertz speaker. I chose the latter due to space and sound quality, I like to listen to hip hop and the solo speaker gave me just enough bass. Jack tucked the amplifier in the side compartment in the rear of my Toyota and there are no visible wires. Trust me when I say Jack at Allboro does quality work! His prices are reasonable and he is prompt and courteous. If I ever buy another car which needs a new audio system I will go to Allboro Custom. read more

WOW!!! BEST CAR AUDIO GUY IN NYC!!! I used to be big on car audio when I was much younger, but recently purchased a brand new SUV and thought I'd upgrade my subwoofer and amp. I found AllBoro and Jack via Yelp after reading the wonderful reviews on him. I dropped by one day and discussed some options with him. My plans were a simple sub/amp upgrade now, then a big system in the spring. Jack spent SO much time going through everything with me and was so incredibly helpful. He is literally a genius with anything car related. I was amazed by his knowledge and most of all, his creativity. Anyway, he installed a 0 gauge amp kit (in preparation for the big spring system) for me, a new amp and sub in my existing enclosure (which needed to be custom fit) and a bass knob up front for my temporary system until the spring. It was absolutely flawless! He even added a few little things I didn't expect like sound dampening my walls in my rear quarter panel and foaming sub box. When he told me the price, I was a bit confused because it was so cheap! Whatever he quoted me earlier was WAY more than I actually paid! I had to ask him twice and he said it went a lot easier than normal, so not to worry. I tipped him $40 and I still fet bad. I hung around with Jack and talked with him while he worked on my vehicle and he is a 100% honest, and good clean family man type person. You can tell he is a really good person just by talking to him. We talked like little girls for hours while I was there, he's so friendly and cool. His knowledge and skill set is absolutely incredible. And I'm a Master Fire Suppression Contractor so I know skill when I see it. After all that to think his pricing is so so so reasonable (actually cheap!), there is no one else I'm ever going to for my car audio and related needs. And remember, NYC is famous for having crap car audio shops. They're SO bad! Makes it even more of a no-brainer! I actually feel lucky to have found this shop and person! A BIG reason I stopped my car audio hobby was because I was so turned off by the garbage quality in the industry in NYC. Jack is a MUCH needed addition to this line of work in NYC! The screen is a perfect fit and looks like it was installed by VW when the car was built. The work was flawless and my experience was better than I could have ever anticipated. Had a panasonic 4200 NEX stereo installed in my 2013 Subaru Crosstrek. Service provided was excellent. Installation is perfect. All the functions work including the backup camera, radio and all of the OEM USB ports. Really went above and beyond with the installation. During the install the harness for the steering wheel controls was defective, Jack discovered this, replaced it with one he had and arranged for Crutchfield to send him a new one directly.
