Lastly, I have eye insurance that doesn't cover much and the optometrist wrote for an expensive medication instead of telling me there is a much cheaper identical equivalent of the benign medication that I should have been prescribed instead to begin with. I had to research myself to find out that the medications have the same mechanism of action but one costs much less. More importantly they should tell their patients about medication options instead of living in fear. Despite me taking the medication for years without doctor or insurance issue, the optometrist was too scared she'd get in trouble if she wrote for the less expensive medication. So I unfortunately ended up finding out this optometrist is against continuity of care out of fear that prescribing the less expensive med (which treats the exact same thing) wouldn't be covered as medically necessary and get her in trouble. Lesson learned, seen an ophthalmologist. People are terrified to prescribe the most innocuous medications these days. It's infuriating to have to hunt for confident prescribers. This is unfortunately not uncommon to find prescribers too scared to do their jobs, but it's completely unfounded and puts more work and cost on the patient.

I've been going here for my eye care needs for years. We're talking "I came here when I was a…read morekicking screaming kid who thought dilated eye exams were the worst". These days I'm not nearly as bad as that, which I'm sure the staff appreciate! While my original eye doctor retired a while back now, I've had no problems with his replacements or anyone else on the staff. Occasionally you get a new receptionist who needs to learn the ropes and requires a few extra minutes to get your information down as you make your appointment, but they're always very polite and helpful; during the last visit one lovely woman talked to me about hunting for a primary care doctor, which I think qualifies as going above and beyond your job duties to help a patient. And nothing sets the tone for your appointment better than a good conversation. The doctors themselves are also very nice - they're always happy to answer my questions about my eyes, and make the appointments more about politely catching up with me than anything else. Considering that eye exams can be stressful for some, their interactions with me are the #1 reason I would recommend Crossroads over anywhere else. Being able to talk to your doctor is hugely helpful if you hate dealing with drops, find the equipment involved in eye exams unsettling, etc. Crossroads also sells glasses on-site, but I can't comment on this aspect of the practice as my family has always bought our glasses from another business. Still, their eye care alone gets two big thumbs up from a long-time satisfied patient!

They charged me for a "specialty fitting" which was unneeded, and she wrote me a prescription for the wrong size contacts anyways. They would not provide the prescription on paper the day of the appt, I had to call and have it faxed because I was not ordering contacts through them since it was going to cost almost double. So at the end of the visit, they were able to overcharge me about $5 undeserved (since I questioned everything) and I am stuck with ill fitting contacts for a year.
