I booked a few flights through this airline amidst the entire United fiasco because it was less than $200 roundtrip to my destinations. Huge mistake! They are lacking in customer service. There is no way to get in direct contact with them. There is only a number at the counter which allows you to leave a message with no immediate response. Their ticketing counter is a joke! No representative is available to help you in any way, shape, or form. One of my flights boarded within half an hour of them opening their ticket counter. Please tell me how I'm to get through security and make it to my gate on time. It is impossible unless you run! A few things to consider. Don't plan to use this airline if you have a checked or carry-on bag. You'll have to check with the ticket counter which is never open until last minute. For all the stress and the headaches, it is not worth the $100 or so in savings. Use a major airline!

Allegiant is a new carrier for Austin and currently only flies non-stop to Vegas. Their business model has them flying non-stop from smaller cities and doing it very cheaply. The fares can be super cheap, but also, everything costs extra on Allegiant. You pay $30 or so just for the right to choose your seat on the plane (all seats are coach, like Southwest). Of course, you can pay $0 and let them choose your seat. You pay $10-$50 or so to take a carry-on suitcase, depending on whether you do it online or at the airport, and even more to check a suitcase. One "personal item" (e.g. something that can fit under the seat in front of you) is free. They are also carry-on nazis. They actually might check the size of your carry-on bags by making you squish it into one of those "Your bag must fit these dimensions" racks that you always see at the airport. They made me do it (I had to re-pack my suitcase on the spot to make it fit). When you're waiting to board the plane, they call "zone groups" by number. "Zone Group 6!" and all the people with Zone Group 6 printed on their ticket get in line at the gate. The thing is, there is no rational order to the Zone Groups. They actually called them in this order: Zone Group 6 Zone Group 3 Zone Group 4 Zone Group 2 The Allegiant rep said "that's just the way it is" with no other explanation. If you happen to walk up to the gate a bit late, you'll have to ask someone which zone groups they've already called. The plane I flew was an MD-80 and appeared to be new, or, at least renovated. None of the seats on the plane recline but the seats are fairly comfortable. The seatback tray tables are smallish and the molding on the back of the seat angles in such a way that probably no laptop in existence will fit on the tray table. Even an iPad on its side with a bluetooth keyboard will fail. I had to skooch my 13" macbook onto my lap in order to use it. No Wifi, of course, and I doubt there ever will be. When the stewardesses come down the aisle to serve drinks and food, everything costs money. You want water? $2 for a bottled water. They truly do fly some bizarre routes, to and from smaller cities in the U.S., but the fares can be bargain basement. 4 stars for making it dirt cheap and relatively painless. One star off for not having a frequent flier club.

First, they charge you $25 to check a bag. As a result, everyone flies with like, 16 carry-ons a piece, which they say NOTHING about, so all the overhead space is full after group 1 of 4 boards. Then, after practically begging people to gate check their bags (now for free), I happily oblige thinking "sweet, free bag check". I just got my bag back. With a giant metal spear on the end. They broke off the rollie handle, so now the only use for my suitcase is jousting, because said giant spear can't retract. To top it off, this poor fellow next to me is now missing his wheelchair. They lost it. Thanks American. Real cool.

    Poor ESA dogs.

My friend booked me a trip to Austin to visit her using her points - they have a rewards card and like 500,000 points so hey, free travel, I'm not going to complain. On the trip from VA to TX - no issues. Flights on time, arrival, bags, etc. All perfect. One the return, flight begins to get delayed... I arrive at the airport, it is delayed more, an issue with the incoming flight from LA leaving like 1.5 hours late. It arrives, no update. After about 30 minutes from when we were set to board - the pilot comes out and tells us there is a mechanical issue and they will update us. An hour later, no update. Finally, he tells us they are either going to have to find a new plane, or they are going to repair it but it will take hours. I had the last connecting flight in DC back to VA of the night at 10:30 with a 1.5 hour layover which has now long passed since the plane won't even leave TX until 9pm at best. I'm told to use the app but it doesn't work - so I stand in a long line and finally get to an agent who was friendly and helpful - they rebooked me for 7am the following morning out, in a worse seat as I had paid $150 for an upgrade, gave me $45 in vouchers for dinner and breakfast, and gave me a voucher for a nearby hotel which I booked and used easily. The following morning - after I arrived at my connection - I had an email saying I was being refunded the $150 and here is another $15 voucher for lunch. When I got home - I planned to go and ask for compensation for the day off work I lost and parking fees I had to pay - I log into the app and I see they say they can offer me a $200 credit or 10,000 points which will never expire. I am giving them 5 stars not because I had an issue - but because they made it so easy that I barely have a complaint. Sure, I lost another day and sure I was inconvenienced, but they refunded my seat, fed me, gave me a hotel and free shuttle, and then gave me 10,000 points without my ever having to make a call. I'm impressed by the way this was handled and it actually won them far more goodwill then if I had flown on time. They have stepped up their game in recent years and I may now consider them heavily when I need to travel again.

I had a prompt and painless time checking my bags. The employees were super friendly and helpful at the desk, as well as the gate. Planes were clean, pilots and staff were friendly. We flew through quite a storm 30 mins prior to landing and despite that and the turbulence the pilots landed the plane better than any landing ive ever had. The key in my mind with this airline is to book the seats with more leg room, which actually I find to be more space than other airlines and THEN the seats also recline. I got the package that included checked bag, extra room seats, and carry on item. Yes its more, but the final price was still HALF what it would be with any other carrier. No frills as far as no in flight snacks, but id rather get something decent at the airport and bring it on the plane anyways.

Each have price points and differing services that come with the purchase..... I should have stayed with a "known" business rather than looking at the $200 cheaper tickets offered by Frontier. I will list the issues i had that I expected included by other airlines. Upon checkin i was greeted with an "78.00 upgrade PER flight" for my small suitcase in addition to my carry on. The seat was hard and not contoured for longer than a 20 min flight (my flight was 2 hrs). There was no recliner. All beverages (including water) was 5 dollars. My advice is to stick with a airline that provides at least a few amenities- your experience flying will be more pleasant. (For me the flight ended up costing more than my regular airlines leaving me with a double whammy) Update.... while posting this review my gate was changed with no notice. Just happened to check as the boarding was supposed to have started. We got to the new gate with 1 minute before doors closing. No text no app notification- nothing. It used to create so much stress with the boarding process to be competing for a seat. I don't really find that I'm spending more money than I used to because I used pay for early bird or priority seating which was expensive and still didn't guarantee me a seat. I find that it makes the boarding process go faster and you have fewer people getting priority boarding just to be able to pick their seat, now it's really just the people who truly need assistance. I also want to applaud Southwest Airlines for listening to their customers through this transition because they've made a lot of changes as far as carry-on baggage availability that has improved the process even more. I think it's great because there's still an option of open seating for those who prefer that, but for me the ability to choose an assigned seat encourages me to continue to be a loyal Southwest flyer.
