We had called ahead because Google said it was closing at 4 PM, while another site said it was already closed. Fortunately, the person on the phone assured us it was open. When we arrived, the place was empty. We walked inside and were greeted by the guy at the counter, who might have been the owner. His demeanor was a bit off-putting for our group, including myself. When I mentioned we wanted to sample some meads, he had both menus together but then moved one menu aside, saying it wasn't included in the tasting. A clearer explanation would have been appreciated. He mentioned that the tasting included four meads, and when I asked if we should write down our choices, he said just to tell him what we wanted. We started with the Almond Spice, a sparkling mead infused with toasted almonds. At 6.5% ABV, it was sweet and delicious on the palate. Next, we tried the Apple Pie mead, which had a delightful cinnamon flavor and was incredibly good but also sweet. The Pear Melomel was surprisingly one of my favorites, and finally, the Peach Melomel, fermented with natural peach juice, was amazing but very sweet. All the meads were sweet but tasty. From the "forbidden" taster menu, we had a glass of the Hibiscus mead, known as sorrel or fleur de Jamaica. This honey mead, with its tart berry flavor and deep red color, was semi-sweet and packed a punch at 13.2% ABV. Sitting outside was more pleasant than inside, as the indoor area was small. The staff, particularly the man at the counter, could be more welcoming, which would definitely improve the overall experience. Despite this, it was a nice place to stop and enjoy some great meads. I highly recommend the Almond Spice mead--it might just be the best mead I've ever tasted.

We decided to share a flight which was $9. But really it wasn't like flights, they just let us sample a bunch. I am not sure how many we sampled but I am guessing we got our $9 worth although I wish they'd discount the flights/sampling if you purchase. We did get a bottle to go for a gift and the total came to around $32. Some of the flavors were really yummy and the ingredients are all fresh and some local I believe which I like. I also like that they do cocktails in house and they fresh squeeze lemons, limes, oranges, etc for whatever they're concocting. The atmosphere is cozy - like a cute coffee shop and decorated nice. Reminds me of my college days at the Allen in Annville...They don't serve food but they welcome you to bring your own food. Also they have live music often so it looks like a nice place to relax with friends and a drink or 2. As for me becoming a fan of mead? Not sure...I tried some that I didn't mind but really didn't have anything that I loved. There were some I was like oh no this is not for me. LOL I purchased a mule one which has fresh ginger and lime and I think that will be good over ice. That's another thing, we just tried them straight but I bet I'd enjoy them more over ice or however some of them are meant to be served. I'd still recommend this place based on overall experience. None of the breweries caught our eye, but I've heard about mead before so decided to stop in and see what all the fuss was about. The Larsen Meadworks is a nice cozy storefront right on Main Street with a small bar, high top tables, and some comfy couches and chairs. Not knowing the first thing about mead when walking in, i was particularly impressed by how the owner took the time to walk us through what it was all about - and to steer us towards some options that were similar to beer styles we liked. Was impressed by how many selections were available - and especially the collaboration they have with a local distillery - with rum from the distillery mixed with mead to create a cocktail. Gift alert! They sell bottles to go, I grabbed a few for Christmas gifts.

We met my brother and his fiancé here a little after 6pm on a Saturday. He told us that on…read moreSaturdays nights they have live music and in addition to wine they sell various boxtail drinks from the Mason-Dixon distillery and craft beer. They also host different food trucks. When we arrived, we were really not sure where to go. There is no defined driveway or parking and there quite a few cars. My brother said they had parked in front but we should probably park in the back because it was getting busy. He said they were seated under the old greenhouse near the back. We parked and started walking to the greenhouse. This did not even look like an event space, there was really no guidance or direction of what to do. The greenhouse had most of the walls removed and there was a food truck parked near one side of it. We found them near the back of greenhouse at a table. Next to the greenhouse were some pop up canopies. People were seated all over the place on random tables and chairs. I don't think any of the four chairs at our table matched. We also saw some people carrying their own chairs. After our greeting, my wife and I wanted to get a drink and they told us to go up to wine shop where we could pay the cover charge to get the wristband and get drinks.  We found a door on the back of the building and walked in. The inside was kind of random. I saw antlers on the floor, a small scale covered wagon and other random stuff. There was a counter where you could see that people were ordering drinks and we got in line. We paid our cover, got our drinks and headed out to check out the food truck. They have wine, a few different beers and boxtails (cocktail in a box). After getting our food, we joined my brother and his fiancé at their table. A band started playing classic rock music and continued off and on during the evening while people danced and sung along. The place was packed, had food and good drinks. This is a very casual place almost like it was just thrown together. You need to check it out at least once.  They do not have bathrooms and only offer portable toilets. Overall it was a good experience and definitely different.
