Polite staff, but be careful about reserving a uhaul truck at this location. I booked mine a week in advance and arrived ready to pick up my truck that I needed for a move. I was told that there were no trucks available. "what was the point of my reservation?" I asked. I was told that reservations don't actually reserve a truck. Clean facility, affordable rates, and friendly service. I have used Allen Avenue for storage, P.O. Box, and storage supplies. They always have carts available, well lit storage spaces and a nice business center where you want sit down with your laptop fully equip with wifi, printing and professional energy. Oh and they have U-Hauls available to rent and return. So just think you could rent the U-haul move all your stuff into the storage and drop the U-Haul off there. read more

We rented a storage unit here for about three years. For most of that time I thought the place kind of acceptable in the sense that it was close and the price was reasonable. The lights never worked right or stayed on more than a couple minutes so that was annoying but not enough to make me want to drag all my stuff out and to another location. I would often find strange colored balls about the size of a marble all throughout my unit, which I later identified as paint balls. Maybe the employees have after hours paintball games? I dunno, but the metal mesh ceiling allowed for these odd little things to collect in my unit, annoying but never caused any real problem. The real fun started when I went to remove my belongings from the location and rented a UHAUL vehicle from them to take my stuff up to Northern California, a little more than 400 miles. For starters the employee who was handling the transaction, don't know his name but he was a Caucasian male, mid to late thirties, with too much hair product in his thinning hair and a very racist ringtone on his personal cell phone that he claimed was for 'his Chinese girlfriend, to bother her' , those were his words. I'm not Chinese or even Asian for that matter, but grew up in the Bay Area with many Asian friends and found that fairly offensive but blew it off at the time as I had more important things to tend to. He then proceeded to tell us that it was almost time for him to clock out, so he rushed the checkout procedure, did not do the proper walk around with me, as has happened every one of the dozen or so times I've rented vehicles in the past from UHAUL. And then proceeded to give me paperwork and fuel readings for a truck other than what I was given the keys to. Admittedly, it took me until the next day to catch the fuel error and by then I was already packed up and on the road. When I returned the truck, I knew there was a difference in fuel reading between the paperwork and the actual truck, but I was not hopeful that the people at the return location would be understanding and believe me and they charge a hefty sum for fuel, so I put in a little more than $80 worth of fuel that I really did not owe them just so I wouldn't have to pay their fee. Luckily the people in Northern California, were very helpful and resolved everything but the actual reimbursement for fuel. So I now have an $80 credit, mehhh..... The truck was filthy inside but it basically worked ok. I'd not recommend this place to my worst enemy and would rather have a root canal from a blind dentist, than ever do any business with this place or send any their way. read more

Well, we'll see what tomorrow brings, but so far, NOT GOOD. I rented a 5x6 spot. Was only shown a display unit on Sunday, but today, Monday, I went back with a carload to store. First, as I approached my space, which Kim had NOT physically shown me on Sunday, someone was painting canvases in the common area and hallway. They were also blasting music. Do they live there? "Work" there??Is this an art gallery, or a storage facility?? He was blocking the hallway with all this, but it seemed OK to management. Then, upon arriving at my assigned spot, it looked really square to me-more like 5x5, not 5x6. Even Wilma, the other representative said, "Why did she rent you a space that you hadn't seen?" She went on her way, but I measured it, and indeed it was only 5x5. (I was actually measuring to see how much space I had left after I loaded; I thought I was dealing with a reputable place and wasn't looking for trouble) When I reported back to Kim at the front desk that the space was not what she had sold me the day before-and invited her back to measure it with me-she said, "Well, you'll have to speak to the manager, Norman. He's the only one that can fix this." Huh. Isn't a deal a deal? I had a 5x6 reservation in writing. So where is that space? So tomorrow, I have to make an UNPLANNED TRIP, to meet with Norman the manager, on my day off, and physically measure the space out for them. Because they cannot do it themselves. Great. read more

Be aware that they don't honor the pricing shown on Sparefoot.com. I have no idea how it goes if you try to book a unit in some other way, but based on my experience, I do not feel that these people are doing business in an honest way. Want the gory details? See below. So I booked a unit through Sparefoot.com. The unit was priced at $108 with 30% off the rent for the first six months. I thought this sounded pretty good. When I arrived at the unit, they made up a contract for $154 with 30% off the rent for the first six months - thus the discounted rent would come out to $108. The site stated that the 30% discount would be taken off the $108. However, I decided it had probably been my mistake, signed the papers and went home. Then I took another look at the listing. Sparefoot.com shows that the unit had been marked down from $134 to $108, and that there was also a 30% discount for the first six months. The manager argued that $108 was already the discounted rate and it would only apply for the first six months, but if that's the case, the site should have showed that $154 was the original rate, and $108 was the discount. When I asked about this, the manager fiddled around with a calculator and claimed that the $20 consisted of the cost for insurance. However, I provided my own insurance, and the company doesn't even offer any plans that cost exactly $20 (I still have the paperwork showing all their plans). The fact is that this place found a way to raise the rent 30% in a confusing, misleading way that some people might not catch. I showed the listing on Sparefoot.com to a friend and we both agreed that the price had been discounted from $134 to $108, and there was a further 30% discount for the first six months. You can go to the site yourself and take a look. It's clear. So what this place appears to be doing is roping you in with a deceptively low rate, then getting you to sign a contract for a higher rate, hoping you'll just go home thinking it's your mistake, as I did. It's also possible that they've been sloppy with their listings, but if that's the case, they need to clean them up instead of wasting people's time with incorrect pricing. By the way, if you do some more searching on Sparefoot.com, you can see that other units also offer 50% off, etc., and their listings follow exactly the same pattern - there's a number in bold, and the discount is taken off that. It's not taken off some imaginary figure that the storage facility pulls out of the air. My guess is that the management is going to respond to this review with some sort of confusing, misleading information, and if that happens, then you'll know what kind of people you're dealing with and you can just save yourself some time and go elsewhere. Maybe they'll fix their listings on Sparefoot.com - that would definitely be nice. By the way, Public Storage units in this area are cheaper than this place. I like to deal with local businesses when possible, but I won't be dealing with Allen Self Storage again. read more

Ok so I want to start off by saying the place is clean and well maintained which is why I have even given his place 2 stars. The management on the other hand has gone down hill compared to the old manager. Customer service at this place is horrible. Nobody knows how to do their job and you almost feel like you bother them when you have a question. I wanted to change my address on file and was told I need to come in person or send an email. I sent an email and then was called to say I used the wrong email and needed to send the request from the email on file. Sorry I have a work and personal email both with my name but ooops my bad. So I said I'll just go out of my way as I travel a lot for work and stop by to just get this done. The manager on duty tells me I can't change my address in person I can only do it online. I said you have to be kidding me so she went and asked another person in the back. After double checking she was sure I couldn't change my address in person. So after I was told I could now I can't. Then I asked what is online because I have never been online to do anything ever. I said to the manager pretty much you just wasted my time and her response was "yes". So I walk out of course pissed off. lol and behold 20 minutes later and 20 miles down the road I receive a call from another manager who says I don't know what they told you but you CAN do it in person. Well at this point you can imagine where my patience level is. I asked for a number of a supervisor and Ashley literally said it so fast I couldn't understand. So I asked her to repeat it slower so I could understand it. She literally repeated just as fast so I couldn't understand again. So after getting her to say it a few more times I got the number, called the number and of course she gave me a FAKE number which I received a call back from some poor soul who had to listen to me complain and tell me I had the wrong number. This is just one story since new management took over this location and I have plenty more. Customer service sucks and they just want your money which I pay a premium to be on the first floor. As soon as you start using this place beware of how you will be treated and how unwelcoming of a place this has become. read more

The facility is clean but the service was very unprofessional. I only stayed for 2 weeks because of it. I reserved a 10 by 10 online and they gave me a price that was NOT THE SAME when I came in to fulfill my reservation. The price was higher which I did not like at all but I didn't want to shop around so I just went with it. The was strike number 1. When I was signing all the documents I asked the manager some questions and he had no idea what the answers were. I seriously think he never read the documents in the past because he would read the section I asked about immediately after I asked the question. I simply just needed more concrete details and examples with my questions but it seemed like reading the documents was all new to him. Strike number 2. Strike number 3 had to be the worst. The 10 by 10 they gave me had stuff in it already but it was marked as "Available" in the system. Huh? Needless to say, they took out the couches that were in there but it definitely added some strain to my move. read more

I finally found a great storage facility! I'm very happy and have been here about a year. The staff and manager are competent and friendly, if you have any issues, they jump right on it. They keep the building and grounds clean and safe, they fumigate regularly, and the hours are convenient. I also appreciate that each storage unit has its own alarm, so if they see an alarm go off and the owner of the unit has not entered their gate code (ie is not on the premises) they look into it. I don't have to worry about the safety of my stuff and the safety of myself! (see my earlier review of my Public Storage nightmare). Thanks Norman and crew! read more
