His mechanic claimed at first that my starter needs replacing then after contacted him, he claimed the engine needed replacing and convinced me to sell it to him. He kept changing the prices of the tow as well as the price for the car. He is not an honest man and seek other tow truck company. He was the worst tow truck company that I ever dealt with in my life. Watch out for him.

When we went to the window and pushed the buzzer, a young lady came to the window. My daughter explained why she was there and the young lady asked for her driver's license and the ISP Tow Report. My daughter gave them both to her. Then, it was discovered that the trooper mistakenly put my daughter's grandmother as the registered owner when she is not. That caused an issue which I can understand. So we went back to my car and my daughter called the police department, explained what happened and we waited for at least a couple of hours for the officer to arrive. He cleared things up and told the folks at RB's the car could be released. Then, my daughter was told by a second woman claiming to be the "manager" that she needed a second form of identification. My daughter got back to the car upset and told me what happened. That upset me because there was no mention of a second form of identification from the first woman. The officer cleared the release because that was all they said they needed, and suddenly once that happened they needed a second form of identification which by the way my daughter did not have. My daughter went through hell the night before, her vehicle was taken from her and wound up in one of the worst tow yards ever!!! She's lucky to have her life, let alone her license. No where does it say you need two forms of identification; a driver's license is required. I took photos of every sign they have, and the website is lacking tow information which is not surprising. These folks are trying to hustle us and I am livid!!! I call it as I see it and I call BS!! It's Friday and the vehicle will likely stay at least one day (one day too many) and these people are SCAMMING!!! I am a manager and that's not how you conduct business at all. You collect money honestly and with integrity and treat people fair. The second woman was smug, condescending and a con artist playing "manager". People are already at their mercy because they have the vehicle but they really want to take it a step further by robbing you of your hard earned money. If your car is towed there, you don't have control of that. But, I warn you not to use any other service because their integrity is shoddy. They deserve ZERO stars. They need to be and will be reported.

To start off, my vehicle was stolen sometime in the early hours of Sunday morning (from what the police said) and found in Markham at a random address and was taken to this tow yard and when I arrived to the yard with my police report in hand, I was told I wasn't allowed to even see my car, nor retrieve any items out of it unless I paid the initial $300 tow fee. Excuse me, what? Typically, at least in the city of Chicago, if your car is stolen and found and brought to a tow yard, you're able to retrieve your vehicle at no cost to the owner since it was STOLEN. Not only was I not allowed to see my cars condition without paying that fee, but I had to pay an additional $160 for the storage fee of a day and maybe a few hours, plus for someone to assist with me retrieving my vehicle OUT of the tow yard. However, I actually physically drove my own vehicle out of the tow yard on my own. The only thing that I can say was "pleasant," was the guy gave me a small USB cord to start my car to drive it out, but even then, nobody drove it out for me and I wanted to know what condition my vehicle was in prior to paying the fee, because if it wasn't drivable or anything, why would I pay $300 just to look at it and grab my items from my trunk and such? That didn't make any sense to me and I felt like the guy thought I was this sorry girl who didn't have a clue, but news flash, I'm not an idiot and I could tell I was being scammed. Also, how dare you charge someone to retrieve their vehicle after it was stolen and ripped to shreds. That is HORRIBLE business and I never wish this upon anyone. Even after everything I was dealing with because of this ordeal, I was kind and courteous to the workers and they still charged me a total of $460 + $10 in service fees for using a debit card. Disgusting.

I was skeptical due to…read morejob request was via insurance app. The tow driver Tony called to say he will be arriving in 10 minutes to meet at my home, yet he arrived before me and waited patiently for my arrival. Long story short, my truck was parked in my garage, Tony had to be innovative using jumper cables and a jump starter pack simultaneously to get truck started. He took his time loading truck on tow bed and ensured my truck would arrive safely to repair shop. I'm not sure of A-1's history with customer satisfaction but Tony was truly professional, caring and is an asset to A-1 Towing & Recovery.

I declined and offered to push it out with my brother. The driver instead pushed it out himself and later demanded payment, which I again refused. He acted hostile, refused to let me ride with him, and made the experience unpleasant. This was my first tow and the lack of upfront communication, along with the aggressive attitude, makes me confident in saying I'd never recommend this company. Update: After posting this review, the manager called and apologized for the driver's behavior. He explained that charging to move the vehicle so it can be towed is against their policy. He also said they'd reprimand the driver and install dash cams on all their trucks to make keep their drivers accountable. While I appreciate the apology, it came across more like damage control than a genuine effort to understand what went wrong or prevent it from happening again. It felt like pressure to get me to change my review, not true accountability. That said, I'm updating this to two stars because I hope this isn't how the company normally operates. If they follow through on these changes and more customers share positive experiences, they may well deserve a second chance. For now, this is still my experience, so keep it in mind if you're considering their service.
