The staff were especially caring, patient and knowledgeable from the woman who scheduled my appointment by phone to the front receptionist to the technician who took down my medical history to the excellent PA who was so smart, caring and listened to what I needed (which was complex). He stayed with me in the appt asking such good questions that I ended up getting more out of this visit than I expected. There is a sense that they genuinely care about your good health. I will recommend this place because I've had other allergists who were so much less capable and caring. read more

Very long intake and then discussion with Dr. Kahlili that was mostly some long analogy about wheels and spokes. Did pretty much nothing to determine the cause of issue I was having (yep, it's an allergy, but to what?), didn't seem particularly interested in looking at the rash, told me to take a double dose of zyrtec, which hasn't helped a bit, denied there are patch tests for medication allergies (there are), didn't suggest any kind of follow-up, and doesn't post or hand out visit notes. Was able to get into a different allergy clinic a few days later with a completely different set of outcomes and ongoing care schedule. The Allergy Clinic was a waste of time and my co-pay. read more

I was referred to this Allergy Clinic to see Dr. Dibbern back in 2014. Wow time flies! I don't know if I could manage this long without seeing him to get his expertise and recommendations for (cu) cholinergic urticaria. It's a breath of fresh air leaving the office knowing someone knows what's going on with you. The staff have always been friendly and helpful. They're even available for a quick phone call to answer any questions. They validate parking in SmartPark just a block away. Located on the top 13th floor. Nice views over looking the city however there's always construction around the area. So be mindful of street parking and allow time to get to your appt. I did not have a good experience with the Allergy Clinic. I had moved to Portland and my allergies flared, and I was hoping to figure out what the problem was. I was only given a list of over the counter medications and told to come back in a year. Additionally, my address changed and I didn't get a $20 bill from their office until much later. They sent me to a collections agency. They had my phone number and email address and never contacted me through either. Overall terrible experience. read more

I had a telehealth call with Dr. Dibbern to discuss my allergies and eczema and he was very thorough and helpful. Unfortunately unable to get an allergy test due to the pandemic but he did his best to address as many of my questions and concerns I've had for some time over our call. Unfortunately I had some trouble receiving confirmation emails but the receptionist was helpful in still making sure I had access to my online visit and they were able to successfully get all of my precious records from my other healthcare providers. I must agree with the reviewer, Josh. I have had a very similar experience with the staff at this clinic. The front desk has been very friendly and helpful but I have come across many nurses in the shot clinic, like Kendall, who are simply mean, Preparing and administering allergen immunotherapy isn't rocket science so why would I continue to go to a place where shaming and berating patients is ok. I have transferred my care to another much nicer practice. read more

On a Sunday afternoon I had a severe and unprecedented breakout of acute urticaria (hives). I started taking benadryl immediately, but the doses would wear off quickly and my condition was escalating, although not any other system than my skin. I am a recent transplant to Portland so I don't have a primary care provider yet. Oh, and did I mention this was the week of Thanksgiving, the best week of the year to try to get into last minute medical appointments...? On Monday afternoon it was apparent I had a severe full body reaction going on, so I went in to urgent care and got on prednizone (an oral steroid), unfortunately to no (apparent) affect. I tried calling dermatologists but most of them wouldn't schedule a new patient until February. Very helpful, I'm sure, but I hope to not still have hives come February... Tuesday evening, I went in to the OHSU Emergency Room as I could not stop scratching my skin and was in burning pain. I was worried I might overdose on benadryl as I didn't have any other recourse. After waiting for 4 hours they added zantac to my list of seemingly useless medications. Wednesday morning I woke up with a swollen face. I went back to OHSU but while I waited to be seen I started looking up allergy clinics. The Allergy Clinic miraculously made me a same-day appointment. The ER was relieved as they didn't know what to do with me other than give me a $250 injection of 25mg benadryl. That afternoon I had an incredibly productive appointment with Annie Legard, PA-C, in which she educated me on how to treat hives, even when you don't know the cause (I didn't really care what caused them, I wanted to resolve them), which the urgent and emergency care professionals seemed ignorant of. I wish I had gone straight to the Allergy Clinic. I was virtually symptom free within 4 hours of starting the treatment she recommended. Even better, I was given a plan for the next 6 weeks for a range of scenarios and what to expect. I have great confidence in Annie Legard and highly recommend her. PS - Don't go to an allergist unless you are testing for allergies or treating an allergic reaction. Otherwise, go to your primary care provider, who is not going to assume you are coming for allergies. Or, better yet, do your homework and research whether a test exists for food sensitivities (it does: it's called an elimination diet. I have IBD and it's a pain, but you figure out your sensitivities eventually.). Part of navigating and taking ownership of one's health care is asking explicitly before a test is administered what it is actually testing. read more

The Positive: When I called to make an appointment I was able to get in the next day. Yay! The receptionist and nurse I dealt with were both very nice. They validate parking at the Smart Park on 10th/Yamhill. The Negative: I went to Dr. Dibbern to get a food sensitivity test (not food allergy test), because several people I know have had them and have had improved health since they stopped eating foods they were sensitive to. I sat with Dr. Dibbern for a few minutes while we went over my medical history and the reasons behind my wanting the food sensitivity test. Toward the end of our consultation he said it didn't sound like I had any food allergies. I reiterated that I did not believe I had any food allergies, but that I had some food sensitivities and that is what I wanted to get checked. He suggested we do a skin prick test and we did. The nurse who administered the test was nice and did a good job explaining how she would be doing the test. After about 15 minutes all of the results seemed to be negative and the doctor confirmed as much when he came back in. Dr. Dibbern said that according to the results of the test it did not appear that I had any food allergies. I asked, "So this only tests allergies and not food sensitivities?" He confirmed that, yes, the pin prick test only confirms allergies, not sensitivities. From the get go, I made it clear that I wanted to find out which foods, if any, I am sensitive to. I stated very clearly, "I don't think I have any food allergies, I want to know which foods I am sensitive to." And the doctor responded by giving me something I didn't want that proved something I already know: I don't have any food allergies. I don't know if this medical practice needs the income generated by administering this test or if Dr. Dibbern simply was not listening to me, but either way I was unhappy with my experience and I recommend going elsewhere for your treatment. UPDATE: When I received a bill for the portion of my visit that was not covered by insurance, I returned my payment along with a note explaining that I was unhappy about my experience. Within a few days, I received a call from Dr. Dibbern. At first I was impressed that he had taken the time to call me, but I quickly realized that the only reason he had called was to explain why he had disregarded my request in the office (he doesn't believe in food sensitivity tests). I said I understood his perspective, but he should have told me *before* administering an expensive test that I did not need or want. Instead of handling the situation with grace or decorum, Dr. Dibbern raised his voice and interrupted me several times. His behavior was embarrassing and unprofessional. read more

I have been experiencing bad allergies since I was a pre-teen, and finally got in to get a real test. I talked to around 5-6 people in the office and everyone was very nice, clear, and professional. Normally, I don't bother with reviews, but seeing the low review here made me want to give my two-cents (begrudgingly). This is an allergy center, and I came here because it was recommended to me by three trusted friends, as well as my primary care physician. I tested positive for nearly 30 of 40 tests, and now I know the main culprits! I also have a lot of food sensitivity and use the FODMAP diet. My family is deep in healthcare (RNs, docs) and a few of us have this problem- typical holiday dinner conversation. The only way I've ever heard of checking 'food sensitivities' is by elimination and reintroduction of foods. This allergy clinic specializes in allergies... And yes, I'd recommend going somewhere else to learn how to deal with food sensitivities and IBS. But if you want help with allergies- book your appointment. They even have someone go over your insurance plan and let you know how much you'll be paying- but of course, call your provider to double check (don't worry, they remind you to do this). read more

The nurse Kendra was very nice and thorough and the allergist PA Jen was very attentive and caring. I also like that I can get an allergy shot on the same day as an appointment. The Allergy Clinic serves its purpose fine, in that providers are reliable, bill my insurance, and administer treatment. Unfortunately, I have not found it to be a particularly welcoming or pleasant place to be. Front desk and administrative staff (particular Martin) are always warm and friendly, but several nurses give the clear impression that they would prefer to not be there or, to my eye, interacting with patients. This vibe is especially pronounced when one comes in outside the prescribed timeframe for building shot dosages. I have found the nurses to be judgmental and shaming in questioning my lateness, so as to actually dissuade me from returning at all. I understand the purpose of problem-solving vis a vi patient follow-through, but very few of the providers at the Allergy Clinic approach it with any tact or, in fact, humanity. It's clearly a sterile, corporate, clinic-wide, checkbox-style initiative. It's easy to imagine that this procedure was installed to reduce patient attrition in order to meet a bottom line, not to improve patients' experience and outcomes. And that's a pretty disappointing impression to have about a community healthcare provider. read more

The Dr. and her staff were all caring, kind, smart, and effective. I needed to make an appointment with an allergist and finding a doctor/specialist I trust with my health care is very difficult for me. I am a very detailed-oriented person and I don't support practices who believe in conveyor belt healthcare, not giving themselves enough time to accurately come to a sound medical conclusion. For me to return to a health care provider, three things need to happen. 1) The staff must be warm, friendly, competent and genuine. 2) The doctor must be highly experienced, welcoming and have a positive attitude. 3) The doctor sets aside more time for their patients, listens and manages their time efficiently enough to be able to get emergencies in sooner than other practices. This typically happens with doctors and specialists that own their own practice and have more say in how things are run. The Portland Allergy Clinic exceeded all my expectations during my first appointment yesterday. They are truly wonderful. The person I spoke to on the phone was extremely down-to-earth and hyper aware of the need to get me in as soon as they were able. I may have been extremely lucky but I got in two days after my phone call as a new client due to a cancellation. The next available appointment was in a week which is still extremely fast considering the other appointments I have made with various specialists have been a month out at the earliest! When I arrived, I was greeted by a very warm receptionist who made me feel comfortable with my decision. The nurse came out 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment and said "sorry for the wait." It is a whole different world in this clinic! I explained that there was no wait since she came out 5 minutes early to get me! :D The nurse was AMAZING! This woman was genuine, maintained a continuous smile, asked all the right questions, and made me feel welcome as the rest of the staff had. I was excited to see Dr. Barzin Khalili because he had great reviews and the staff had already won me over. It has been my experience that a happy, pleasant staff usually means happy doctors. The doctors must be good to their staff because you don't get this type of energy from staff that dislikes the doctors or their jobs! Dr. Khalili walks in, tells me he wants to hear everything and to start at the beginning. Most doctors, shoot into the room late, want you to be as brief as possible and get to the point, prescribe you the wrong thing because they didn't have time to listen or accurately diagnose and get flustered when they are running late for their next patient because you have more questions. :D Ok so not ALL doctors, but too many I have seen.....and I know it is not entirely their fault because they aren't making the rules for their own schedules. I support rare facilities such as the Allergy Clinic and take the time to write extensive reviews for these types of businesses because I believe they have the right idea when it comes to health care and should serve as a model to others. After listening to my WHOLE story, details and all, Dr. Khalili began to discuss all possibilities carefully with much thought and included clear explanations. My husband and I have been to three other doctors and none were this thorough and as effective in communicating what was going on with me. This doctor is patient, calm, extremely knowledgeable, and takes the time necessary to come to a sound conclusion based on listening and examination. This clinic gouges their patients. Here's what happened to me: I went in for a routine allergy check. I saw the nurse for 30 minutes. And I was mailed a bill for $794.60. Talk about a rip off. That comes to $1588.00 an hour for treatment. Who in their right mind had the gall to bill this much. Your answer: The Allergy Clinic of Portland. Heck... if you enjoy being billed an obscene amount of money then go to this clinic. I certainly work too hard for my money. And I feel like a fool for getting overcharged. read more

Primary care physician referred me to see if there was more effective treatment than the Flonase I was currently taking. Easy and helpful scheduling. Mary was very friendly, understanding and helpful with pre-exam. Barzin Khalili, MD spoke to me about my present treatment and expectations. He agreed that short of multiple years of getting shots, my present course of allergy control was appropriate. There was no need for testing. I appreciated both my primary care physician's referral, just to make sure that I was getting the most effective treatment, and Dr. Khalili's candor in reassuring me that my present course of allergy management was appropriate. I've been an allergy sufferer all my life, but hadn't seen an allergy specialist in twenty years. It gave me peace of mind to know that I hadn't missed out on any advances in allergy treatment. Dr. Khalili also mentioned that Flonase was going OTC, so I would soon be able to take doctors out of the equation for my allergy treatment entirely. Yay! read more

Dr. Khalili and his staff were very good. The office was clean and my appointment was timely. Had the full range of allergy testing. My initial symptoms were not figured out but a secondary chronic condition was fixed with a prescription. I liked that the testing was done on my initial visit rather than having me come in for a consult then come back. read more

I have been going to allergy clinic for years. First with Dr. O'Halloren (?sp), now with Dr. Khalili. I think both have provided excellent care. They and their staff are knowledgable and helpful. They always help with scripts, samples, etc. They also do not cut corners. I am an MD and have been pleased with their services. I have never seen Dr Dibbern, so, cannot address the negative comments from one patient. read more

This clinic is horrible. Not only are they amazingly overpriced (I switched to a clinic that was roughly 45% less expensive and much cleaner just a few blocks away). The staff is mainly unfriendly and they drag out treatments to milk their clients for money. I moved my records to a different clinic and have been much happier with the results. read more
