If I could give Alleycat more than 5 stars I would. I was beside myself when one mouse sighting turned into a daily experience. I freaked out. I made my husband set traps and put out poison, but the mice were not interested and continued to scurry late evenings. I was seriously contemplating moving. My prior experience with a professional exterminator years ago led me to put in a new kitchen in this apartment and adopt a cat. It worked for a 10 years , but we have severe cat allergies in the family and she had to go. I read the reviews and I called Alleycat. Don came and took care of business. I used to live in an apartment building with a history of bed bugs. When I found bed bugs in my apartment, I was horrified My landlady hired another exterminator in Brooklyn to spray my apartment. It was a very minor infestation in my apartment, but it was still very important that I took care of the problem immediately. My landlady's exterminator, who came to my apartment, was not thorough or helpful. I knew that I needed an independent exterminator who could give me some objective advice. My boss at work recommended Don at Alley Cat. Best advice I received during this entire episode. When I called Helen at Alley Cat, she could tell that I sounded very upset with my bed bug problems in my building. I told Helen that that I am moving to a new apartment and I would be horrified if the bed bugs followed me to the new place. Helen completely understood my concerns. She asked Don to call me back immediately within a day. Don was compassionate and informative over the phone. He immediately agreed to inspect my new apartment on my moving day. During his inspection, he checked everywhere. He explained what he was doing. He wanted me to learn and be educated about bed bugs so I could deal with the situation better. For the first time during my bed bugs crisis, I felt in control and optimistic - all because of Dom's professionalism. I contacted Don after seeing an ugly little rat who had the audacity to live in my stove stick his ugly little head out from behind the clock and smile at me with his ugly little teeth and beady little eyes. Yuck. Panic. It was amazing to see that I could text Don, according to his Yelp page, so I did. Not only was he prompt in a response, he was thorough in his explanation and offered me numerous quick tips to get the situation resolved, even though I was not a paying customer. I know no other businesses who would provide customer service like this when there was no guarantee that I would even use their services. At this time, we haven't gone with them because we did catch a couple on our own. However, if we see more activity, they will be the first people we will schedule to come out. Don is the man! His company gave me a courtesy call as he was stuck in traffic and he showed up cheerful and thorough. Let me tell you, this man KNOWS mice. To my horror, he told me that teenage mice have been using my kitchen as their own personal hang out spot since their birth under my dishwasher. Ugh. We launched our own mouse-copalyse and he promised that we should see the end after four or five days. After my husband and I started getting some mysterious bites I called Don practically in hysterics because I was worried we had bed bugs. He could sense how upset I was and cancelled his personal lunch plans so that he could squeeze us in for an inspection as soon as possible. He was warm, professional and reassuring. He did a thorough inspection of our bedroom, talking me through the whole process and reassuring me that if in the worst case scenario we did have bed bugs, he would be able to take care of it. Thank goodness he didn't find anything, but I knew if he did, we would be in good hands. When a found a strange looking little bug in our apartment yesterday I texted a picture of it to Don. Everything about having bed bugs sucked except for Don (and Hellen!) of alley cat exterminating. After our landlord gave us an incredible run around we decided to take matters into our own hands and use an outside company. We called alley cat bc it had great reviews. Even though it was 10 pm Hellen responded right away and had Don in our apartment the next day! So Don shows up, knows what he's doing and most of all really gives a shit! A month later I am totally bed bug free and our bathroom sink is unclogged (that was just an extra bonus). Don is a true professional who operates with an unmatched (in my experience with exterminators) level of expertise and care. The only bad part is now that I am bed bug free, I won't see Don anymore. Don knows everything about everything, has amazing stories, insights and advice. I am left with the strong conviction that Don and Hellen do what they do bc they take pride in and care about their work. I can't express how satisfied I am with this company. I contacted them because we had a mice problem. Don came out the same day, inspected everything, used copper mesh and caulking to patch up all the entry points around plumbing, behind the stove, and under radiators. He placed traps and bait packs in concealed locations where my dog wouldn't be able to reach it. Overall, he was very knowledgeable and professional. Don came by our apartment and couldn't have been a nicer, more knowledgable or sympathetic guy. After my landlord did some shoddy work that was sure to fail, Don made sure our apartment was sealed off, and also laid poison and traps. These guys were terrific. Last week, after about 2 weeks of getting bitten by invisible bugs we tried to pretend weren't really biting, we finally called first our usual exterminator, who had no time to come by, and then Alley Cat, who were just wonderful. Extremely professional and informative - i learned not only that we didn't have bed bugs, thank God, but also what they would look like if we did; and i also learned how to deal with the problem we do have, which seems to be flying gnats - common in brownstone brooklyn, though who knew? Best part is that there are ways to deal with this effectively that are not chemical-based, and Donnie, the owner, was extremely forthcoming in explaining what we could do. This business is sham. We booked an appointment for noon and received a phone message 2.5 hours before the exterminator was supposed to show up that, sorry, they can't make it. I called to reschedule and the representative casually said the next appointment would be in 6 WEEKS. If I knew the appointment was "tentative" I would have booked with someone who could do it today, when we needed it, or at least this week. I would avoid this company at all cost, their rudeness and unprofessionalism is absurd. And there are plenty of other good ones to go with. read more

My multiple traumatic experiences with bedbugs in the past have made me super twitchy about them. I called Alley Cat when we had a bedbug scare last week and I couldn't get in touch with the exterminator I've used in the past. Don was prompt, responsive, knowledgeable, friendly, thorough, and very kind. He carefully inspected every inch of my bed, walls, and furniture before telling me it seemed I had nothing to worry about, talked me through why he thought the bites my friend had gotten were from mosquitoes, patiently answered my many questions, offered to give my room a complimentary bedbug spray in the unlikely event there were any hanging around, and instructed me to lay down double-sided carpet tape around my bed to catch any ne'er-do-wellers that surfaced in the days following the spray. And the next day, when I texted him a photo of a suspicious dead bug I found on my bed, he called right away and assured me that it was the shell of a roach nymph. I feel confident in his assessment and abilities, and I absolutely recommend his services. The next time I have exterminating needs of any kind, Don's my guy. read more

I'm on the board of 8 year old 28 Unit Co-op building in Williamsburg and one of my crazy duties as a volunteer member is making important decisions with a limited amount of time. I searched pest control online and found a cookie cutter one (not ally cat). We immediately hired them for a one year DISASTER contract to provide a monthly service in which we paid them and they never showed up!!! we realize this when it was 8 months in and found RATS! Huge NYC rats in our building. I called all my friends and one of them recommended Don from Alley Cat. He talked about Don like he was the Yoda of pest control. So Don came and I became an instant believer! He is dedicated beyond the formal agreement. We have his personal cell, his wife and even daughter are hands on! I had a good experience with Alley Cat when they came to my apartment in late December to deal with a mouse problem I was having in my kitchen. Don was kind and thorough and reassured me that it wasn't a serious infestation. He filled a few holes and laid traps and poison and told me that the mice wouldn't be back. This seemed to solve the problem until a few days ago when I found another dead mouse under my sink (more than a month after the first visit.) I texted Don and he didn't seem concerned, telling me to give the poison a chance. This response made me feel a bit uneasy as clearly the source of the problem had not been properly addressed. Mice and pests in the home can be a source of great anxiety, and I would have hoped that Alley Cat would have stayed with me until the problem had truly been exterminated. read more

I would give them 0 rating if that was an option. They are unprofessional and disrespectful. I worked hard to schedule an appointment for my building with Alley Cat. There are 4 units in my building. I spent considerable amount of time to get a phone call from Alley Cat and coordinate between 4 units. I have a full time, very demanding job and 3 kids at home. I really went out of may way to be able to work with Alley Cat based on their glowing reviews. All this work is redundant now as they called today - one day before the appointment - and told me that the appointment is cancelled without any reasonable excuse. The person who answered the phone changed the scope of what it is included in the quote several times. She somewhat increased the price and decreased the scope of work every time she called. I would still pay them super expensive fee they quoted as I thought they deserve it (based on the reviews). In real life though they are extremely opportunistic and does not seem to care about developing any relationship with potential customers. They behave as "hit-and-run" (lets collect as much as money as we can while people need our services.) I am utterly disappointed and surprised as to how short-sighted and unprofessional Alley Cat is. I have had him come twice, once when my wife was pregnant and once with a newborn in the house. He was careful to use products that are safe for the mama and baby. Don and Helen and the rest of their family are terrific, and this should have been written long ago. I contacted them a couple of years ago, after raccoons brought fleas to our block (to which me and my dog are extremely allergic). After dealing with other exterminators and wildlife removal companies, Alley Cat is my first call for any extermination, follow up or routine checks. Helen is a knowledgeable and sympathetic ear when you are frustrated. Don has a ton of experience, explains the entire process, and is way too patient with all my questions and concerns. This is what a family run business looks like at its best. Though they aren't the cheapest, they are extremely fair and effective. Which is what you really want if you are bothering to spend the time to hire an exterminator. The only problem is they are so popular. Not only is he professional and reliable, he takes pride in his work. I wish everyone in Brooklyn had a work ethic like his. After a long battle with bugs, we came to the realization that our apartment building was infested and the problem could not be solved within the confines of our apartment. Don and Lauren were beyond FANTASTIC!!!! I had gotten a couple of random huge bites on my body and had it looked at. I was told by a doctor that it was most likely a spider bite and would go away soon. However, the bite didnt really go away soon and then one day i was laying in bed and saw a little beatle looking bug on my boyfriends pillow. I immediately collected it in a plastic bag and saved it as evidence. This has happened to me before and it always turned out to be a beatle.(NYC living!) However this time, it definitely was NOT a beatle, but rather a bed bug. GROSS!!! Anyway, I freaked out and started cleaning and throwing clothing into garbage bags and my boyfriend started Yelping exterminators. I got in touch with Don after talking to a few others who wanted to charge me an absurd amount to come to my apartment. When i spoke with him, he truly calmed me down and told me to send him a pic of the bug i captured. He responded right away and indeed it was a bed bug. I scheduled an appointment with him for later in the week since we had to pack up our whole apartment in a very specific way as instructed. Him and his daughter, Lauren arrived later that week and were personanable, thorough, professional and just great people. They came again for a second treatment a week or two later (since I am writing this review a few months later, I can't remember) and also have a warranty that if any more bugs appeared at the apartment, they would come back to get rid of them at no extra cost! Also, they use all organic spray so that my boyfriend and I as well as our two cats were not inhaling harmful chemicals for weeks on end. Truly amazing customer service, and really really calmed my nerves to make me realize that we did nothing to cause this and it happens to people every day in NYC! Another reason to support them is that they are a true family business. Don's wife manages the business and schedules the appointments and then Don and his daughter Lauren are there to save the day. i had a roach problem. my apartment building will exterminate for free but i have had a reaction to the stuff they sprayed years ago + was afraid. i have rented my apartment for 20 years and have not had roaches in 19 years.I found Alley Cat through Yelp. I called, spoke to Helen, she was wonderful and calming. i told her about the reaction i had and instead of using spray Don used gel. Don was wonderful. I was so relieved that problem wasn't as bad as i thought, he inspected and told me. Don did put the exterminating gel all through the kitchen and bathroom. He told me it would take 2-3 weeks and i would see fewer and fewer. The appearance of roaches slowed almost immediately. by week 2 we saw few of them. by week 3 we haven't seen any. Alley Cat was wonderful they came right away and told me in advance that i had to empty my kitchen cabinets so he could exterminate, which is something that the building exterminator never told anyone in my apartment building. i have already recommended them to 2 of my neighbors who are also experiencing the same problem. the prices were more than reasonable and the relief i have at not seeing bugs in my apartment is fabulous. Don did tell us that it would be a good idea to paint the kitchen when the bugs stop. i am now looking for a painter- any recommendations? update- 6/18/2016- it is now about 2 months after Don exterminated and i still have no roaches.
