The ALLSPORTS CAFE in Salem, Virginia, is a nice size restaurant housed in a building full of booths and tables and chairs in a festive place with a relaxed environment. It is decorated with a huge number of framed sports memorabilia tightly filling all its walls, as well as with many large screen TVs in front of a long bar located on the left side of the restaurant as you go in. The dark color painted walls and black ceiling give the place a cozy feeling and the open well lit space provides a comfi atmosphere in which to enjoy a comfortable meal with friends and family. I arrived there with a friend on a Tuesday, the day after we were hit with a snow fall and icy weather. It was hard to find parking. We finally drove around and found a two hour parking space in front of the sidewalk that led to the place. The sidewalk however was full of ice and snow, and I couldn't imagine how in a City like Salem it had not been cleared up either by the merchants located there or by the City. We had to be very careful walking towards the restaurant on a sidewalk in this condition. When we left, we also had a hard time pulling out of the parking space because of the ice and snow under the car. When we arrived we were warmly greeted and taken to one of the booths in the back area of the restaurant and provided with a copy of its two page menu. Both of us ordered iced water to drink and the Joe Gibbs Burger accompanied by a huge load of thin fries to eat. I also had a side of coleslaw. This burger had the Tennessee Bourbon sauce, bacon, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato & mayo. It was very fresh and juicy and the thin cut fries were amazingly delicious and plentiful. When we were finished and asked for the dessert menu our server told us that they didn't have dessert. I could not believe this and wondered if she was about to get off duty and wanted us to just pay so she could go home. So I inquired how come how could a place like this with a comfortable ambiance and great food didn't have any desserts. She then told us that they usually had one dessert a month, but the January dessert had not yet arrived. This was hard to believe but we paid and took off. I hope that when management reads this review they take action to fix this depending on what the real truth was and to train the servers on how to handle situations like this one. Overall I loved the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant and the food was amazingly good. If they would just fix the dessert issue I would definitely recommend this place and enjoy coming back again. read more

A group of about 16 of us decided to go out to eat, we went to Macados but they couldn't accommodate a big group at all, not even split up. So we went to Allsports Cafe and they didn't hesitate in accommodating us in two different tables. I wish I could have gotten pictures of all the food, but not one person complained about the food. I ordered the Joe Gibbs burger and added cheddar cheese and man, that had to be the best burger I've had in a while! The fries are really good! My husband had an order of 6 wings w/fries. He really loved the wings! He says we found our spot for wings now! Service was great our server was super sweet and the food came out pretty quick! Will be coming again...not as a big group again but, well you know! Try them out! read more

I'm sorry, it took y'all a good 15 minutes to even acknowledge we had been seated. Then, another 15 to get our drinks and apps (slight delay when she brought the wrong beer). Wings aren't half as good as the Grandin location. And THEN they had the audacity to charge $2 for a side of ranch. No, thanks. Let me start by saying Allsports has always been one of our favorite places to eat. We love their food (their service...not so much as it generally sucks). When we were seated on a slow Wednesday night (emphasis on the word slow) we ordered two beers that took forever to arrive. Our order of cheese fries came and of course they were great. When I asked for additional ranch , it never came. One of the servers came up to us, highly apologetic, stating that our order ticket had been lost. What? Really? How does that happen? It is probably no more than a 50 foot walk from our table to the kitchen and they list our ticket???? We were trying to make do with our cheese fries. we were starving. My husband politely asked again for the additional ranch. We were told by our server that she was going to wait and bring out the additional ranch with our wings that should be ready in a few minutes. If that situation were as pitiful as it was, it would have been funny. What a ridiculous way to treat your customers by making them wait until the server felt it was the right time to bring them the food they requested. Back in the day, Allsports ran a very tight ship regarding their servers and kitchen staff. To say they have dropped the ball is proof that management either doesn't know or doesn't care about customer perception. i got some takeout from here the other day and i added a couple extra sides to my order. one side of mac salad because i heard it was really good and an order of baked beans. tell me why these sides came in a small freaking container typically used for dipping sauce!!! 3 bites of each with a small plastic spoon and it was done! worst part of it all was that both were delicious but the small serving size left me dissapointed and unsatisfied. please fix this read more

Why 4 stars? This is a 3.5 in my mind, so in between on where it goes. Listen, this is a sports bar, so don't ask for the frills, white glove service or date ambience. Great sauce selection for wings, good bar food and the best tater tots I have had in a long time. Drink selection is fine, and the service was nice but not over the top. Not sure how to rate this place really Staff was awesome. Friendly and accommodating in every way. 5/5 The food was a mixed bag for me. In fact I went 2x and the food was not bad but maybe not good enough for a fully positive review. First time I did the naked wings. I did not like them. They had a fuel taste to of whatever fueled their grill that they were finished on. Lots of people like these wings but I just didn't like the taste. They were cooked well just not for me. I finished the meal with the blondie sundae. There was a maple topping that was like a loose fudge. It was over the top sweet for me. If you like Sweet you will love it but it was too much for me. The second time I went I had the buffalo chicken dip and a burger. The dip had the same fuel taste as the wings (not surprising really) so I didn't finish any of it. It really was a turn off for me. The burger was excellent. Really tasty and cooked medium well and done properly which is rare and came with shoestring fries which were fantastic I would go back for the burger again. The wings were not to my liking but plenty of others were licking their fingers and smacking their lips over them so it might have been a personal thing. I'm sorry if this place is something of a local institution, but I was not at all pleased with my first order here. While the Italian sub itself was good, the shoestring fries were barely warm and either limp or stiff, and I didn't like that the hoagie for the sub was buttered against my preference. Not only that, I later learned that all sandwiches come with fries and a choice of side, which I was not even asked about yet still paid the full price at $9.95 plus tax. I wish them well, but I know where I'd rather get my next Italian sub from. read more

Best wings in Roanoke. I can't speak to the bar/restaurant experience because I only get them to go but man, they are good. Also, they have a lot of choices for how you want them. A few of their sauces are indistinguishable from each other or I got ripped off on my choices but I still liked them. In the past decade or so they moved across the street from their former location. So don't be like me and curb your wheels trying to park and look for it. It's just on the other side of the street. read more

Returned to all sports after not having the best of experiences last time, and wow, what a difference! The restaurant was slow, but the servers were very attentive, and even taking the time to train a new person. Our server Jordan was friendly, fast and funny! A refreshing experience from our last visit! The food was hot! And looked photo perfect! We went here for dinner the night of the Final Four games. This place was recommended by our server at a restaurant the night before when we asked for a good place to watch the games thatalso had great food. She was very complimentary of their wings, which I enjoy, so we thought we'd give it a try. I assume like most places, they are short staffed, because we waited about 15 minutes for a table when there were empty tables available. We try to be patient and understanding about that, so it wasn't a problem. The problem was the loud, obnoxious jerk of a sports fan sitting on the other side of the wall from us. I think several patrons complained, and then some staff came out and talked to the guests at that table. It got better for a bit, but then got ridiculous again. People would be seated near them and then ask to be moved. I couldn't see what was going on, but I could hear some of the conversation. The staff cut them off from the shots they were ordering, but it was too late at that point. I'm not sure the shots were the problem. I think the guy was just an idiot, and his friends didn't have the sense to tell him to shut up. Anyway- I gave 4 stars because I think the staff should have addressed him without patrons having to complain. I don't expect a quiet, romantic dinner when I choose a sports bar, but he was truly ridiculous. However, our food was good and the service was good. We ordered the buffalo chicken dip, and while it took a bit to be served, it was very good. I ordered wings and truly enjoyed them. I liked that you could have them grilled or fried or boneless and that you could ask for them to be cooked a little extra crispy, which I LOVE. Sadly, the dressings were not homemade, but that's true lots of places. I had the shoestring fries and they were great. My husband had a burger and waffle fries and thoroughly enjoyed them We would've stayed longer to finish watching the game were it not for the dude around the corner. I love wings and not everywhere makes good wings. The sweet and spicy BBQ style wings are my favorite. I came up to watch football at Allsports and decided to give the wings a try. Oh. My. Stars. Came here for Roanoke Alumni weekend, and were in a bit of a rush but we were sat immediately got our food fresh hot and fast (and of course delicious!). Drinks came so quickly and were great as well. Literally 0 complaints. To top it all off our waitress, Dana, was incredible so on top of everything and made the experience even better! I've been here a few times. The first time was awful, I ordered a burger around noon and waited 30 minutes to get it. I thought it was overpriced for a truly overlooked tasteless burger, especially when they wanted to charge extra for fries instead of chips (This policy may have been done away with since). While I waited for my food the staff and other customers glared at me, and I felt extremely unwelcome; this didn't change when my waitress made either of her 2 trips to my table. The place also smells like an ashtray. I decided to give it another chance after they remodeled. This time, I waited almost a half hour before someone came to the hostess stand to seat the group in front of me. Then they left, and I waited another 20 minutes before someone at the bar offered to take care of me. The people were much friendlier after that, but the burger was equally as bad. One thing I will say is that the service has been pretty good and the people much friendlier the two times I ordered takeout. They do also have some pretty great wings. Overall though, it's not a great experience if you're dining in, and the quality of the wings doesn't change that. read more

Good atmosphere. Good beer. Good people. Most people recommend their wings but I think the burgers and fries are the best item on the menu. Spinach dip is also banging, if you are getting an app you should prolly go with that. Nice and light on the stomach but very tasty. read more

This is by far the worst customer service experience I have ever received at this location. I usually dine-in on my lunch break this time I called in my order. I was very respectful and nice on the phone after placing my order I requested to not have any salt on my fries she proceeded to tell me that they use a seasoning that has salt in it. Hmmm bottom line I don't want it but that's not it. When I get to Allsports she was sitting at the at far side of the bar in conversation with someone the hostess had to go over and tell her that I was there to pick up my food when she went to go collect my payment she told me how much is was slid my card then left my card and the receipt on the counter and walked away to go and continue her conversation. No thank you have a nice day or anything. She wasn't helping anyone else she could have at least waited for my receipt read more

Worst customer service ever. Came here for a quick lunch with some friends and our waitress, Brandi, was doing just about everything but waiting on us. One of my girlfriends requested a beer THREE times and the waitress never brought it to her. Another one of my girlfriends' drink was empty the entire time. Had to ask for a refill twice before it was finally brought after we were done eating. All of our food was brought out to us 10 minutes apart, and on top of that- my friend ordered 10 wings and was brought 8 after waiting an unreasonable amount of time for them to come out. This place is a joke. They advertise their "Cork and Keg" shop next door as a place to purchase cigars, wine and beer, yet they supposedly do not allow cigar smoking in their SMOKING bar. I brought a cigar into the smoking bar last night expecting to enjoy the game with a few drinks and a cigar in the smoking friendly back bar (as I had done previously). After requesting an ash tray and purchasing a drink, the bartender came to us shortly after I began smoking to notify us they do not allow cigar smoking. Note: I have smoked a cigar here previously with no issue, there are no signs posted to notify patrons of this policy and they sell cigars in the cigar shop next door. Assuming cigar smoking to be allowed in this smoking bar did not seem unreasonable. We spoke to the "manager" on the way out to express our displeasure and to inform him we would not be returning. The response was totally inadequate and unprofessional. The "manager" on duty informed us that the real manager had left "to pick up his blood pressure medication" and was not available to speak with us. No offer to pick up our one round of drinks (we had come to this location specifically because it was a smoking bar, and they apparently do not allow smoking). The food is decent but not worth the awful customer service and total unprofessional business operations. I typically make it a priority to support locally-owned businesses but will not be returning to this restaurant and will encourage those I know to do the same. read more

Good food, but a bit overpriced unless you go when there isn't a special. Tea is subpar and service is meh. Always way too loud even when the place is empty. All the tvs are turned up to high and it feels like they're trying to be Buffalo Wild Wings (which I think is WAY worse). The tables were made repurposed wood and NONE of them are level. Drinks will slide off if not on a coaster, and it's hard to enjoy your meal when it's not stable. The worst thing, and this is a huge detractor for me, I ALWAYS leave smelling like food. It gets in your clothes and I change clothes as soon as I get home. It's the #1 reason I don't go. read more
