    All brick architectural design.

Four Nineteen West is a Traditional American Restaurant located on 3865 Electric Road in a beautiful contemporary architectural design red brick building. It offers the perfect combination of upscale and casual dining experience with an exquisite menu of steaks, seafood and American grill, with items such as 8-ounce Filet, Wood Grilled Diver Scallops, Grilled Seafood Trio, and Mahi Mahi, just to name a few. It offers Brunch every Saturday & Sunday from 11am to 3pm and Live Music every Thursday from 7 to 9:30pm, among other Special dinners such as their very popular Thanksgiving Family Style. The restaurant has one of the most beautiful interior designs, with an open kitchen and a modern style lit dome in the center of the dining room. It is such a popular restaurant that the week before today, I had made a reservation through Open Table, and when I arrived, I couldn't find a parking spot for my Lexus, even after driving around their parking lot in circles for a while, and ended canceling the reservation because of this. Today, I arrived early, in time for an early dinner, and to avoid the crowd. As soon as I entered the Host gave me a warm welcome and took me to one of the booths. Not long after my server, a friendly young lady by the name of Amber, greeted me and took my drink order of a Blackberry Sangria Mocktail. For dinner, I ordered a Fried Calamari appetizer, followed by a House Salad with Balsamic vinaigrette dressing, and as my main entrée an 8oz Filet medium rare. Amber provided excellent customer service but her shift ended before I had began my meal, so I was assigned another young gentleman server by the name of Zeke, who also did an awesome job in providing me with an exceptional customer service. The Filet was a bit small for 8oz but it was very tender and cooked to perfection, medium rare, as requested. Zeke forgot to hand me the steak knife, but the manager quickly noticed and immediately brought one to me. So this was not at all an inconvenience to me. For dessert I had a Crème Brûlée. This was the largest size one that I had ever had. And I enjoyed it to the last spoonful. I highly recommend this restaurant for a wonderful fine dining experience with exceptional customer service.

We normally eat on the dining room side, but Friday night we opted for a table on the bar side for faster service. Service was prompt and kind and gave great recommendations! Burgers were great, nothing too special. Would recommend the white chicken chili nachos, as they come on friend pita bread pieces and are some of the most unique nachos you'll find in the area. The atmosphere here varies greatly depending on the night - can be pretty cozy and dressy or pretty laid back and loud.

Stopped in after a day on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We wanted something before we headed home. The atmosphere is nice. Dark wood and black vinyl booths. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Then she brought out a plate for our nachos that was dirty. Foreshadowing the meal to come. Yep! We ordered white chili chicken nachos and a Rueben sandwich to split. The nachos were fried tortillas cut in large triangles with salsa, a hint of the chili which had no chicken, and a small squirt of sour cream. The Reuben had a small piece of meat, a few strands of sauerkraut, and the Swiss was like paper. Top that with an $8.00 IPA. Last time for me.

We went to this place because another was closed. I ordered the corn and crab bisque because I wasn't crazy hungry and I wanted dessert later. The bisque was decent. I would probably give it a 2.5 and not try it again. I tried my husband's mashed potatoes which were ok too. I tried the cedar plank salmon and it was delicious. I would have given that a 5. Overall, the salmon was the best thing food wise that I tried and I almost gave up and didn't have dessert but then I decided that it would be good to give them a chance to redeem themselves. We got the lava cake with ice cream, creme brûlée and bread pudding. The lava cake was more like chocolate ganache and moist. It was pretty decent with the ice cream. I really liked the creme brûlée. There were a few burnt spots but otherwise it was delicious. Whoever torches them needs to be a little more careful. I normally don't like bread pudding but this one had a better texture. I think it was that it was a croissant so it didn't taste as soggy as normal bread pudding. I would skip the soup and mashed potatoes next time and have the salmon. The quinoa was not great but not terrible so I would give this a 3.5.

    Outrageous White Chicken Chili Nachos

Let me preface it by saying I used to love this place. The service is unmatched, all items are made to order, and the price is fair. If 3 stars is "a-ok" according to yelp, then it's only fair I give two in this case. I visited on a Friday evening (9/8) by myself. My waiter was amazing. He was very professional, very suggestive, and checked in often. I ordered the same nachos I had ordered before, a ribeye steak that came with asparagus, and added "grilled" shrimp. The way the tortilla's are cut for the nachos are almost to big. My nachos seemed like a giant thrown together unthought out mess. I was so happy when my steak arrived. I genuinely don't have any complaints about how the steak was prepared. It was seasoned and cooked to my desire. I do wish that 1/3 of it wasn't all fat, but I guess that's what makes ribeyes, tender. The asparagus was so over cooked that it was mushy and it came unseasoned. The " grilled shrimp" seemed like they were just boiled or microwaved. They were unseasoned (I dragged them around on top of my steak to pick up a little something) and there was no sear or grill marks on it, nothing but rubber texture. I couldn't wait to leave after being so disappointed. Yes, I lied when I was asked if the meal was all right. I realize that's the opportunity for them to solve this in the moment. I don't like to complain, and I really just wish it came out right the first time. This place was always amazing before and has so much potential. The menu is right, the wait staff is right, the ambience is wonderful, the food just desperately needs a real cook in the kitchen. I'm not in the area often. I had one place that I chose to eat in the entire town that night and feel completely let down. I can't say that I'll ever be back, but I hope management does something about the kitchen.

THEY ACTUALLY HAVE A GLUTEN FREE MENU. You can also do special orders on some of the regular menu. Just tell the waitress and they will help you. But it is no problem to eat here.

The place is small but quaint, with dim lighting, a full bar, and a fun mix of music genres that keeps the vibe relaxed but lively. I ordered the Gregg Brady, and my sister had the Doctor Gozo, both made with 100% Wagyu beef. You can taste the quality immediately. I added mushrooms and grilled onions for a small extra fee, and had my BBQ chips that come on it, on the side. We shared the crinkle‑cut fries, which came with their incredible house sauce. The sauce was so good I asked if they sold it, they do not, but the waitress sent me home with some samples for free. Service was fast and friendly. The waitresses were dressed in black tank tops, black shorts, and black shoes, and every one of them worked with a smile, like they were glad you came. The restaurant entrance itself is handicap accessible, but the bathrooms are not, they're very clean but also very small and too tight for a wheelchair to fit inside. One of the coolest things about Jack Brown's is their Beer Club. If you drink 100 different beers, you become a "Notcher." If you drink 1,000, different beers you become a "Saint." On Saint's Day, Saints get all food and drinks free, unlimited, with no tab. It's a huge part of their culture and adds to the fun, and a loyal community. Overall, the food was phenomenal, the staff went above and beyond, and the atmosphere made the whole visit top notch. I will definitely be coming back the next time I roll through this part of town. How to Become a Notcher (repeat for the Saints) To achieve Notcher status, individuals must follow these steps: 1. The crinkle-cut fries were good too, but one of the stars of the show was their house sauce -- a mayo-based sauce with herbs and spices that was so tasty we had to get some to go. Service was prompt and friendly, and for those so inclined, there's also a great selection of specialty beers. The atmosphere is fun and memorable -- the rock 'n' roll was loud enough to add energy but not so loud that we couldn't have a conversation. The decor is quirky and kitschy (think a skeleton on a bicycle and a chandelier made entirely of bras). The couple behind us also enjoyed their selections, with "The Elvis" being a standout. Even though it came highly recommended, I just can't bring myself to put peanut butter on my hamburger. That said, next time I'm in Roanoke, Jack Brown's will definitely be on my list for a return visit!

Consistency in the dining experience of a restaurant is something very important. It is something that the restaurant has to earn every time a customer enters through its door. As easily as a restaurant can win a customer over, it can also lose him and his loyalty to the restaurant. Sadly, this is what happened to me during this visit. I had missed having lunch, that day, so I arrived at around 4:30pm to have an early dinner. A gentleman greeted me and had me take a seat at a table of my choice. I went and sat at a booth facing the kitchen. I think it was the same place I sat the first time I ate here with a friend. The same gentleman performed as my server. He came by and asked me what I wanted to drink. I asked him if they had any Mocktails. He answered me that Mocktails are not the drinks that people usually drink there, but that he can have them make one for me at the bar. I described the one I would like to have and right after give him my food order. I ordered a Hunter's Burger, with a fried egg, smoked bacon, and American cheese, among other ingredients. And tater tots to accompany it. After putting in my food order he goes to the bar and comes back with my Mocktail, which was extremely acidic, but he had already walked away before I could tell him. So I stirred it hoping that this would fix it. But as the acidic liquid reached my throat it made me caught and gave me an unpleasant sensation. The server brings me the Hunter's Burger, my main course, with the tater tots. The tater tots are not cooked well. When I try to hook one up with my fork, it just splits in half. The Hunter's Burger bun was not big at all, and the patty was extremely small that you could hardly see it without opening the buns up, and that is what I did and discovered that the egg was not fried evenly but the yolk had been broken while being fried and was not soft. I tried to make the best of the situation and ate the burger with a fork. If all this wasn't enough, the server approached me with something in his hand that I think was my bill and asked me if I wanted something else. I told him that I wanted the Fried Oreo Cookies with the Vanilla Ice-cream. He brings me them with so little ice-cream that it had melted in the middle of the Fried Oreo Cookies. What an awful dining experience this has been compared to last time, which I still remember today. And today's experience, I just want to forget. I hope the owner of this restaurant reads this review and takes a look at my photographs that accompany it, and takes action to remedy it so that this doesn't happen again and tarnish the Image of what I once thought was a great restaurant.

That restaurant was and continues to be the iconic Texas Tavern, located in the heart of Downtown Roanoke. This morning I drove my pearl white Lexus up to it and parked in front of the sidewalk at the parallel parking with a one-hour limit. There is so much history behind this place that the excitement of the moment made the breakfast experience more momentous. Once inside, a young gentleman who has been working there for over two years now greeted me and immediately made me feel at home. He took my order and almost at the same time started making my toast and frying my eggs. In no time at all I had my order in front of me. I noticed and made him aware that one egg was missing. He made it right by frying me another egg over easy and I didn't mind because of his positive attitude and very unique personality. He also asked me how I'd like my coffee and prepared it just as requested with two creams and three sugars. Every one of the three eggs were perfectly fried over easy and I sprinkled a salt and pepper mixture over them. The bread of the toast was so fresh and tasty braised in butter. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. I'm looking forward to returning one day at lunch time to taste some of their menu items of which they are known for. Starting with their Cheesy Western, the tavern legendary trademark burger served with a fried egg, cheese, pickles, and a sweet-and-tangy homemade cabbage relish. Or maybe a bowl of their secret-recipe chili served with onions. Or their trademark hot dog served Coney Island-style with chili, relish, mustard, and unions. All comfort food that make you feel good and bring a sense of nostalgia, warmth, and satisfaction. I highly recommend this small, historic, eatery for a one-of-a-kind, memorable, dining experience. We were seated in a couple minutes despite it being rather busy and we had the sweetest and most helpful waitress, Faith! So my lady friend got a salad to start and a regular ol' burger and some fries. She was highly happy with her meal and noted the crunchy "potato crispy things" on top. I got a grilled chicken salad which was absolutely delicious!!! The salad greens were soooo fresh and cut very well, the chicken was very juicy and seasoned great. Ohh my mouth is watering again thinking of it! The restaurant itself is very new and the first time I'd have heard of it. It is super clean and the style is sort of cool retro in ways but elegant in others. Pricing is about average. Two people getting a good meal and a couple extras under $40.00 these days isn't bad. I of course left Faith a good tip!!!! Keep up the good work! I'll definitely be back.

Place was busy and easily seated in the bar area which is probably a little louder but it was ok with us. MY brother ordered the Meaty Meaty - he doesnt like a lot of cheese so having a lot of toppings means less cheese. We ordered the Hot Italian. Pizzas came out in relative short order and I immediately noticed our pizza was wrong. I pointed out that we didnt have hot red peppers and basil but instead we had green peppers. I dont eat green peppers as they dont sit well with me. I mentioned to my husband and he also noted as did my brothers family that this was wrong. When the waiter eventually returned - we told him we had the wrong pizza. He indicated that he saw it looked different when he brought it out and perhaps the kitchen just subbed out the peppers. I stated That is fine to do - if you check with the consumer first as i dont eat nor like green peppers. And sure i can pick them off but the ratio of peppers to sausage was more than 2-1 and left gaping holes. Waiter left and soon a manager returned. She told me that they buy both red and green hot cherry peppers and thats what this was and left. Sigh. Waiter came back and said we would get 20% off bill and was All ok then. I didnt care at that point. There is no such thing as a hot green cherry pepper - except it is green before it turns red. We also didnt have the basil as the description stated. I was not impressed with the pizza at all - ans then particularly not impressed that they couldnt just be honest that they messed up. I understand mistakes - just own it! Not going back at this point

I was traveling with a friend up to Blacksburg so we could watch our alma mater, Virginia Tech, play North Carolina in a big early college football matchup. While driving up from Hampton Roads, we kind of settled on grabbing lunch at Sticks & Spoons Ramen Bar in Roanoke before checking into our hotel and then finally heading out for the game. We made good time and, wouldn't you know it, Sticks & Spoons was closed for renovations. S&S was located at small strip mall - so after seeing they were closed, we noticed Lazy Bulldog across the way. We figured, "Why not?" and headed over. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by Lazy Bulldog's co-owners, Brandon & Erika. They were quick to answer any questions about their menu, and Erika was kind enough to provide their establishment's history. The menu looked incredible as LB offered all kinds of burgers and sandwiches. We ordered the What the Ale Shrooms for an appetizer, which were fried button mushrooms in beer batter. It came with a homemade lemon aioli - both the shrooms & the aioli were delicious. I had the Surf 'N Turf Burger (1/3 lb beef patty, Old Bay fried shrimp, thick cut hickory bacon, lettuce, tomato, Sriracha aioli), while Neal ordered the Garlic Bomb (1/3 lb beef patty, cheddar, lettuce, sauteed garlic, red onion, homemade garlic aioli). Both of us enjoyed our choices and appreciated the excellent service from Erika and Brandon. Our entire experience was fantastic, which came with extra effort when Erika gave us free water while we chatted outside with one of Neal's former professors. LB closes for a couple of hours between lunch & dinner service, so Erika, as she was closing up and leaving, gladly provided the water and some extra produce she had grown herself. Thank you, Lazy Bulldog, for everything! I cannot wait to visit again when I return to Blacksburg! JV

After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to return to those special ones, that have made a difference in my life and highlight them, for the benefit of the public, so they too can have an opportunity to appreciate the qualities of a one-of-a-kind fine dining experience. And Bernard's Gastropub & Eatery in Downtown Roanoke, is a perfect example. Bernard's was born out of the love of two culinary aficionados turned professionals that in someway have managed to create a restaurant with an environment that transmits this intimate love to the hearts of their customers through the attention to detail in its extraordinary customer service and amazing culinary masterpieces. Today, I felt like dining at this restaurant, which I admire for its consistency in always far exceeding my high expectations of what a fine-dining restaurant should be all about. Not knowing if they would have a table for me at this late time on a Saturday early evening, I drove in my pearl white Lexus to the nearest private parking lot and gave them a call to inquire as if they could give me a reservation for the next ten minutes. A gentleman, who later I found out was named Matthew, and would be my server, answered the phone with a very polite and welcoming voice; answering my question of what was the special dish of the day and to come on down, that my reservation was assured. As soon as I arrived to the small, very elegant foyer in front of the Host's station, he came out to greet me and instantly recognized who I was. My only request was that he give me a low table because at my age seating at a high table was a bit uncomfortable. He went back to see what he could find and ended setting me up with what I consider one of the best tables of the house, and I was so appreciative of his last minute accommodation. The menu was already setup on my table. He poured water from a special bottle into my water glass and asked if I wanted something else to drink. I asked for a Mocktail and since he also was a bartender, he prepared me one of the best mocktails I've ever had. To dine, I started out with their Mussels Carbonara appetizer, which came in a bacon parmesan cream sauce that was simply amazing, and served with toast points. As my main entrée I had the Dinner Special of the Night, the Seafood Trio. It had a delicious, giant size crab cake in the middle, scallops, and shrimps, with parmesan risotto sautéed heirloom tomato, spinach, and nice size asparagus, with a burre blanc sauce. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the high-quality of their food and magnificent ambiance of the place. Everything was so delicious that only one word could ever describe them: priceless! For dessert I had their very famous Butterscotch Banana Pudding, which the chef makes at the moment ordered. It looked spectacular and tasted amazingly delicious: a culinary work of art. What a great way for the Gran Finale of an extraordinary dining experience!
