I was really looking forward to dining at this Sports Café for some time now. And today, right before this year's end, I decided that it was time for me to go visit and have dinner there. Located in Grandin Village, one of the most popular neighborhoods of Roanoke, Virginia, it stands alone in a modern looking, white and gray, wide, architectural design, building, on 2326 Grandin Road. I arrived as the sun was beginning to set and parked in one of the spaces of their ample parking lot in front of their building. As I entered their main door, there was a small foyer with a framed collection of beer bottle caps, and a Christmas tree since we were in the Holiday Season. Then I entered a second glass door which on the right was the regular bar and restaurant and on the left, behind another glass door was another bar with a smaller dining area for smoking customers. Although with an ugly color carpet, the type that is installed with square pieces, the restaurant looked clean and presentable, with a bar that consisted mostly of draft beer and no hard liquor. Next to the bar they had a refrigerator with bottles of beer, and their Coke products machine must have been inside the kitchen. There were large screen tvs all around and the walls were decorated with sports memorabilia. The lighting treatment made the ambiance cozy and friendly. There were no employees around to greet me when I arrived. Only two gentlemen drinking at the bar. I waited for a while looking around until I saw the Welcome Seat Yourself floor sign. I went and sat at a table looking over the menus that were there. Finally a friendly, young server came out and took my order. To drink I ordered an Iced Coke. Then, I asked her to first bring me a half House Salad, and afterwards for my main entrée The Joe Gibbs Burger that came with their fries. She left without asking me what dressing did I want for my salad, nor how did I wanted the burger cooked. Their prices were reasonable. Their burgers were 1/3 lb Certified Angus ground chuck, made daily, according to the menu. Another long time of waiting and my server was nowhere to be seen. She never brought me the salad first nor never gave me a refill of my softdrink. After a long wait a gentleman comes out with both my salad and burger at the same time. By the time I ate my salad, which only had two tiny pieces of tomato, the burger had gotten luckwarm and the fries had cooled of that made them no that much appetizing. And they were the skinny fries, my favorite. Then after a long wait my server brings me the bill and I ask her is there time for me to have a slide of their Peppermint Cheesecake from the Christmas menu. After another long wait, she brings it. I then go to the restroom that was dirty and smelly, to wash my hands and go up to the kitchen entrance to ask for the bill. All the employees there were really very nice and welcoming to me, what I think they need is a whole lot of more training on restaurant operation, timing sensitivity, and customer service. I hope if the owner of the restaurant reads this review, and works with management to see that this happens. read more

Arrived a few minutes after 2pm. Restaurant basically empty. One bar customer, a couple two tops at the bar and that is about all that was in the building. Waited at the host station with my two hungry kids and wife. Staff looked at us. Bar looked at us. No one came to help. We waited and waited . Eventually after several minutes we gave up and hunted down a server to get seated. Floors were super dirty. Staff just standing around. Really poor service . It felt like no one cared. Our actual server was nice and attentive . A little pushy at first asking what we wanted to eat while taking the drink order before we could even look at the menu. Still she checked on us continuously and was very nice. Food came out super fast and was really tasty. The bartenders could act like they cared as they stared at us several times with nothing to do but never offered to help. Same with service . Good food, bad service . 1. Kitchen staff was non existent for a while. Some was called in to help. He showed up with a younger man who was carrying a paper plate inside the restaurant, who also went to the kitchen??? 2. Ladies bathroom smelt like MUST - (please buy a small oscillating fan) and the bathroom on a Sunday afternoon looked like it hasn't been cleaned in days. I mean GROSS!! 3. I have been desperately craving some wings and when I asked locals all I got was BW's. If you know wings that is not the place to go. Luckily I found this place and went to try their wings and I was not disappointed. The only thing that left me wanting was their spice level. Even eating their second most spicy it was barely tingling my lips. Now, I know I have a high spice tolerance but even these were meh (in regard to spice). The flavors on the other hand were PHENOMENAL!! I'll take that over fake spice any day of the week. The whodat flavor so far is my favorite. It's such a complex mixture of spices. The Deviltonia and garlic parm were ok. Tennessee Bourbon is another go to. Atmosphere is what you would expect, sports bar but family oriented. There were lots of kids when I went running about. Service was decent. Our fries didn't come out until we were done with our wings which led to them not being eaten. On top of that they were really dry. I asked for them well done but I didn't expect them to be put into the broiler until the cheese was crisp. After we ordered it took about 35 minutes for my friend to get his food. I also ordered another drink and that took 15 minutes. So, i hate the fact that i have to do this kills me, but even when things are crashing and burning in the service industry transparency is always your friend. When we ordered wings, like we always do for super bowl usual we asked if they would be ready at the time of pickup or begin cooking, we just like to know what to plan around. We were told they would be ready at time of pickup, like we expected, and off we ordered. Day of super bowl we pull up at pick up time. As soon as i walk in and see the line of faces waiting i know something is amiss. This is not the usual smiling faces i see picking up wings every year, instead it was frustration and anger. When i checked in i was told i would pay when my ordered was called and told nothing else. After 15 min and a simingly not thinning crowd i asked if the orders were being cooked by check in or by the time they called in, which i was told we are cooking them as we get to them as they were called in. I returned to my seat and quickly realized this was not the case at all. I continued to look around, waiting for some explanation, we heard sorry everytime a bag came out but not much else. The lack of caring, interest, or desire to even fake the appearance of caring about the jobs the held. When i discussed with the bartender the frustration that nobody could have been honest about the wait time and what to expect, after she commented that the kitchen had been struggling all day, she responded with a its not my fault, so what can i do. After finally getting our food my wife asked if we could get w couple ranch for waiting 50 minutes from our pickup time, we were told we would have to pay, at which point my wife said really? And she responded "Jesus fucking christ". The lack of professionalism is astounding. I have always loved all-sports and their wings have been the best to me hands down. I've been coming to this place for over 16 years and it has really gone down the drain. It's dirty. Like really dirty and smells something awful. If the staff spent as much as time on cleaning or just overall caring in where they work as they do gossiping and on their phones, it would make a difference. Don't know where management is in all of this because the Salem site is much better and it at least appears that they care more. While Allsports has great wings, the overall experience is not worth it. I'm afraid to use the bathroom in this place. It's disgusting. You all have been able to sustain for a long time and I hope it continues but you really need to focus on the facility and staffing to have people continue to come into your restaurant. read more

First of all, to their credit, All Sports Cafe has the best wings in Roanoke. Period. However, the service is absolutely atrocious and I refuse to pay to be treated like I'm being done a favor. Tonight, I place a to go order. I arrive to pick it up and walk in and stand at the bar. A waitress, who clearly doesn't want to be there, says "name!?" I tell her the name of the order, and instead of grabbing my order (which I see is bagged and ready behind the counter) she proceeds to walk around the dining area making casual conversation with her regulars. After standing there for about 10 minutes another waitress comes and asks me if I have been helped. I ask her for my order and she immediately grabs it and gives it to me. I pay, however, I mention that I've been standing there for 10 minutes while my food had been resting behind the counter getting cold. She goes to talk to the original waitress, who storms back into the kitchen stating, "that f***ing guy hasn't been here 10 minutes!" I complain to the second waitress, who apologized and said they are in the middle of a shift change. I never complain about anything, and I've never asked to speak to a manager in my life, but, in true 'Karen' fashion, I ask to speak to her boss. The manager comes out after a several minute wait. I explain to her the situation. I explain to her that I am a small business owner too and that I understand how Covid has added stress to us all, but that a customer should not be treated that way. She says she can remake the food, but that is her only option. I kindly return the order and ask for a refund, which is completed after about another 10 minute wait. Ok, this place is about a inconsistent as our National Border Policy but damn when they are on a roll it is awesome. Truly, even on a bad day the wings here are better than most but for the past few months they are great. Whoever the hell is in the kitchen and/or responsible for this right now then please give handcuff them to the grill and do not let them leave. We have visited a few time since kids/grandkids live just down the block. Two sides-one for smokers/bar patrons, other side for diners and good for families (we take the 2 and 4 year old grandkids). They specialize in wings and they are good. So many options, boneless/bone-in with lots of flavor options from sweet to spicy. Can't go wrong with wings. That said, the burgers are da bomb! Had a "Sweetness" this evening which was tender juicy patty with provolone cheese, honey bbq sauce, fresh lettuce and tomato and mayo. Dinners come with fries (thin cut/shoestring style extra light and crispy) and a side (baked beans, coleslaw, Mac salad- ok, nothing too special). The burger was so good and it came with a mountain of fries! Nice cocktail menu, lots of beer. Kids had pizza and mozzarella sticks, grandpa had a fish fry (April special) that came with fries, Cole slaw and hush puppies- he said all was delicious. Other family had other burgers and all were tasty! They do a brisk take out or delivery business too but I don't like food that isn't hot so I prefer to eat in. Confession: I'm not really one for sports bars, nor have I ever been a big fan of wings, since "wings" is usually preceded by "hot," and I've never really liked food that bites me back and makes my nose run. But some of my friends really dig All Sports wings, so I've been in a few times. A small-ish neighborhood sports bar, it's got a nice vibe and reasonable prices. The company, for me, is always the best part of All Sports, and the lowkey crowd is part of the appeal. Last night there were two large-ish groups of friends (including ours), a contingent of pre-teen baseball players in uniform, a few smaller parties of couples and guy friends. There are something like 8 screens in the back (non-smoking) room--a bit overwhelming, but you can be pretty sure that whatever game you want to follow, there's a screen for it. I've been there during a Hokies game, and karaoke, and while those crowds were boisterous, it's always felt friendly. Service was slower, more disorganized than expected, given that the bar didn't seem that busy. But they had a great system for efficiently splitting up a check that included shared orders of wings. My chicken caesar wrap was okay, chips a tad stale (discouraged me from eating too many, I suppose). My friend liked her taco salad fine. It's mostly a bar menu, lots of burgers and sandwiches. The real stars are, indeed, the wings. Friends convinced me to try the Tennessee Bourbon wings, which, it turns out, are right tasty but not too spicy. Finally, wings without a side of the sniffles! The first time I came here was for NFL preseason football. I thought this place was ok. However, after the season started... and I got sick of going to Buffalo Wild Wings, this place has become my go to. The food is not bad. They have a deal from 12-5 on Saturday and Sundays...30 wings for 20 bucks. The wings are decent...and yes, I ate all 30 by myself. A pitcher of water...I mean Natural Light was 6 bucks. This is one of those places where the customers make this place worthwhile. During Steelers games, they have a huge showing. Redskins games also had a good crowd. This is a much different crowd than the Buffalo Wild Wings scene. At All Sports, it's more about the games and trash talk can tend to be in the PG-13 range whereas at Buffalo Wild Wings...people go to be seen. This is not a place you want to EAT. When we walked in the door the smell is overwhelming. A cross between filth and sewage. I was invited to lunch, so I did not say anything. The cleanliness, or lack thereof, is obvious, with a vacuum cleaner sitting in the entryway, surrounded by dirt and dust bunnies. You have to walk by the bathrooms to enter the restaurant, so I gave them the benefit of doubt about the smell. But once in the dining area, still a horrible smell. My family lives in the area and I was merely a visitor, so I thought, I'll give them a chance and not judge a book by the cover. Big mistake. The waitress was friendly. We decided on 1) a Pete Rose burger, 2) sliders lunch special and 3) Spicy chicken pizza. It was not crowded, but took 50 minutes after we placed our order. The food was not worth the wait. I was starving, but could barely choke down two slices of pizza. I tasted a fry and it was fine, average frozen fries. The others in our party said their burgers were just okay... like I said, we were starving after nearly an hour wait. The pizza was spicy, but overly greasy and not much flavor. It has been about 5 hours since we ate, I am still nauseous. Can't forget the smell... ugh. Save your money. Might be an okay place to get a beer if that is your thing, but please do yourself a favor and eat anywhere else. Very attentive and friendly service but this is one unusual place. See, on one side you've got this rowdy, noisy bar with some live music. On the other side there is this staid dining room with all the wrong sports channels on (poker?!) and some quiet tables. That's where I sat the other night to try All Sports's famous chicken wings. They were pretty decent --well, the ones that were "Hot" were at least. I thought that these were good and a little better than the Deviltonas, which were more breaded. The sauces weren't sizzlingly hot or spicy and maybe that's OK. I got a side salad with a zesty Grecian dressing, plus a baked potato that was better than it had a right to be --for $1.75 at least. The menu seems pretty long and varied and it's probably a bit more happenin' at lunch time. There is a back room off of the dining area that management really should monitor. We waited over 20 minutes one evening for our waitress and she never came out. I even tried calling the restaurant from our table and couldn't even get an answer. My husband and I were in again just this week for lunch. Food was good and came out quickly and then we had to again wait 15-20 minutes for a check. I finally had to ask another waitress for the check because ours was no where to be found. I have been the only person, multiple times and had to wait nearly 20 minutes for someone to come out of the kitchen (This is we're they hang out and chat). If someone assists in your order do not expect them back soon, if at all without having to bring it to their attention. The server yells "fucking cunt" about another customer who didn't tip her well, there is an employee behind the bar burping as he openly eats his burrito on the by bar next to me, and all I ordered was some fries and one beer. Out of 5 employees working and I being the only person in the dining room, why wouldn't somebody cash me out before I had to stand up and openly ask. This place is trash!!
