So. I really really wanted to like this place. It's less than five miles from me and it's not crowded like that place in Ritchie Marlboro . I went in to get a mani pedi. No issues with the pedi. I asked for dip nails. After the pedi, it was getting close to closing time. First critique. The nail tips they use are CHEAP! Second. Although I specifically asked for dip, the man started doing acrylic (faster for him, tears my mail bed up!) I told them not to use the drill...tears my nail bed up. But quicker for him. I removed my hand and told him I wanted dip nails Long story short. I ended up with THREE people Working on my nails for a total of TWO HOURS. The man had shaped them much too narrowly. They literally filed UNDER my nail, missed applying dip to the whole nail, and in general my nails are uneven. My fingers hurt where they filed my fingers and exposed the mail! $135???? Seriously. You had the nerve to charge $135 for this bad nail tech job? Their nail techs need dip practice and training. I still tipped $25 but I don't know if I'm Coming back here again ever. As a counterpoint I'm posting my dip nails I got done in Texas. Two hours for $55 and the dip stayed on for four weeks (black matte nails). It was not quality work. I debated putting this here. But in the end $160 is too damn much for bad quality.

Bad Experience to day. The owners are on vacation. The person left in charge doe not know how to treat people. Left me with bare damaged nails.

Allura Nail Bar.. I love the atmosphere! It's beautiful in here! And it says it's their "Grand Opening!" (It also says 10% off all services on the banner outside.) We came here on a whim trying to find a new nail spot. We had called so many other places and everyone was BOOKED and BUSY! So when we called and asked if they any availability, they said "Come on in!" We get here and we only waited about 3 mins before being asked about the services we wanted. The lady Janet who greeted us was very nice. We found out that she is the manager. Her customer service skills are "DOPE!" She brought us mimosas and the massage chairs are lovely! The pedicures we received were good. The both of us are sticklers for our feet and what is actually done to them. Now when it came to my nails, I'm not one to get gel because I like to change my polish pretty often. And that would be pointless to waste money on gel if I'm going to change the color. I had Bi, he was better on my feet and just ok on my nails. There were some things that he could've done a lot better to say the least. As you can see in one of my pics, my nails were crooked/slanted. It was almost like he was rushing because I wasn't getting gel. (that's one thing I dislike about nail shops nowadays, the upsell on gel.. Then the attitude thereafter) Ultimately, it's my money and I'll spend it how I like. Bi didn't have me to get up and wash my hands after performing the services before polishing my nails. He didn't clean up under my nails either. He never came back to check on me as I was drying. Nothing. I felt rushed and thrown to the side. He was just mediocre as a nail tech. My mom was serviced by the gentleman in the back at the last station on the right. Andy, he was very attentive to my mom. He asked her questions EVERY step of the way. And when I told him that I wanted to see a little more brightness in the colors used for her designs, he did just that! He aimed to please!! I just wanted to try to find a new nail spot and I can't say this is it, just yet. I would like to try another technician to see if they will be my perfect match! A persons nails tells a lot about them and what they're like! And with my nails, I like to be versatile! So that's what I need in a nail tech! Hopefully, my next visit will change my mind! Cuz we need a new shop to call home. So we will see! I'm back.. A few minutes later.. Now... To add insult to injury, when we went to pay for our services, there was an issue. The price was a little pricey, however, I had no issue paying. My issue was being told what services I was paying for in detail. When I asked Bi what my total was, which he never gave me when he finished my nails.. He caught another attitude! I was like "Wow!" Very unprofessional! Then he chose to walk away. When the manager Janet had to come up to assist with the checkout, I showed her my nails and how they were crooked. She said someone can fix them, I'm like we have to go, it's my moms birthday and we have other plans. She said to not go to Bi the next time. I told her there may not be a next time. So she apologized for the bad service, and said she would take me when I came back for my next service. So we will see how that goes. I never want to write a bad review, however, reviews are what makes us aware of the things that take place in these establishments. It's our freedom of speech to share our experiences and help others make educated choices. Each one of us work hard to experience the joys of being able to spoil ourselves. And we deserve to be able to do so without feeling ostracized due to a personal choice. I still recommend Allura Nail Bar, just beware of Bi and his attitude. UPDATE: So.. After 7 days, the acrylic on my nails began lifting around the cuticle area. I don't know if it was old or what it was, however, I have NEVER experienced that before. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. And as much money as I spent for the services rendered, is ridiculous. At least my moms nails still look good. I guess that says a lot. It definitely depends on the attention to detail that your nail tech uses when it comes to you as the client. The guy who did my nails didn't pay attention to detail and now I'm having to add glue to my nails to get me through the rest of the week.

I like to patronize minority business. I look for them specifically…read more I can't remember where I found out about this salon, but I'm glad that I did. Located in Capital Heights, at my first appointment, it was kind of hard to spot. Be aware of the parking, as some of the spots are assigned. Upon walking in, use the door on the right to access the nail salon. Appointments are made online, and Tenecia prefers that appointments are made at the half hour only. No problems there. Nice selection of colors to choose from, and the place is clean. I noticed that Tenecia takes the time to clean the bowl in between clients, which I totally dig. Also, she uses new new tools, like emery boards, and buffers for each person. My first appointment was a gel mani (with designs of course) and a pedi. Let me tell you, it was one of thee best pedicures that I have EVER had. She is absolutely excellent at what she does. I loved the gel manicure as well, because she actually does a manicure; you know soaks the hands, trims the cuticles, massage, and the like. She totally takes her time. My nails were shaped beautifully, and they actually grew! Woop! My only issue, is that my mani didn't last as long as I would have expected, but that could totally be me, because I'm super hard on my nails. Oh, another plus is that she totally accommodated me (in between clients) when I chipped my toe...see uber hard on my nails. No matter here though; because, my services were done well, and it is fairly priced. I will definitely be returning.

Since slots fill up fast, I went ahead and booked for the rest of the year. I needed to find somewhere that was preferably black owned since the other place I found took entirely too long. The parking is very limited and the lot is kind of tight. There's a parking lot on the other side, so I parked there and walked the short distance over. The inside of the shop isn't very big. However, it wasn't crowded, so I think it wouldn't be a problem. Also I wasn't positive as to how to book nail designs, but Tenicia explained with no problem and now I know what to do when scheduling. Even with this, she was still able to accommodate me within my appointment time. I really appreciated that. I read a few reviews about Tenicia's attitude, but I didn't have an issue. She wasn't talkative, but I wasn't really looking for that. She came off as professional and cordial and that was perfectly acceptable in my book. I really enjoyed the service and the work was awesome. The work was fast, but high quality. After 10 long years, I think I found my spot. https://www.styleseat.com/teniciaingram?utm_campaign=email_profile_User

I came in during the afternoon with plenty of time and signed in for a simple pedicure. I was told it would be "a little while," but no one could give me an estimate. After waiting about 25 minutes, I politely asked how much longer it would be. No one answered, so I had to ask again. That's when I was told it would be another 30 minutes. At that point, my total wait would have been about an hour. Had I been told that upfront, I could have decided whether to stay or come back later. Instead, I felt like my time wasn't respected. When I mentioned that it would have been helpful to know the actual wait time from the beginning, several employees laughed among themselves in Vietnamese. I don't know what they were saying, but it made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Customer service and communication go a long way. Unfortunately, this experience left me with no desire to return. If I could give zero stars, I would.

The salon was very clean, relaxing, and had chill music playing throughout my visit. The massage chairs were amazing and even worked my lower back and glutes, which was a nice bonus. Gel pedicures start around $60, which I thought was reasonable for the experience. I also enjoyed the complimentary mimosa while being pampered. Linda did a great job on both my nails and toes, and I was very happy with the results. Overall, the service, atmosphere, and quality exceeded my expectations. I'll definitely be back!

I was referred by a colleague whose nails always look gorgeous--she's been going to Jennifer for years, and now I see why. I'm so glad I came--I've officially found my new nail spot. A lot of reviews mention that the shop is slow. I wouldn't say slow--it's just busy. And honestly, a full shop with no room for walk-ins usually means they're doing something right. The quality, attention to detail, and affordable prices speak for themselves. For me, that's what matters most. Now that I know there may be a bit of a wait, I'll just plan ahead--bring my laptop or a book, knock a few things off my to-do list, and make good use of the time. Totally worth it.
